Scentbird is a perfume sampling subscription box that sends you 100% authentic perfumes every month. When you sign up, you take a preferences quiz to help them suggest recommendations for you to try, and you can also go browse and rate the rest of their selection to make the recommendations even more accurate. You can build a queue of fragrances you’d like to try or you can let yourself be surprised every month.

Because this subscription is so heavily personalized, the fragrance I selected to review this month is specific to my own preferences and choice.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

SCENTBIRD JAN 2016 - info 1

Along with the fragrance you receive each month, Scentbird also includes a card describing the “perfume of the month” for the next month. January’s perfume of the month is Goutte de Rose by Cartier.

SCENTBIRD JAN 2016 - info 2

Scentbird has also started “Scentbird A La Carte” that lets you buy individual perfumes, either in addition to or separate from a subscription.

SCENTBIRD JAN 2016 - item 1

With your first month’s delivery, you receive a perfume case that fits your 8 ml sprays inside. The purse spray case you get with your first month is black, and comes with the sample vial inside. This pink case is limited edition but you can now add-on extra cases to your delivery for $12.95. This is what the pink case looks like, open. To close, you just twist it (like lipstick) and the silver part sinks into the case.

I have to say that that these atomizer cases are probably my favorite part of this subscription for me. The cases have a nice weight, are sleek, and feel high quality. It’s super easy to open and close, and to switch perfumes you just open, pull the vial out, and place the next one inside! No messing with atomizers.

SCENTBIRD JAN 2016 - item 2

This is brand new packaging from Scentbird! I LOVE this new cardboard case! It’s much sturdier and stiff than the old cardboard boxes. They look so much chic-er, too.

SCENTBIRD JAN 2016 - item 3

The fragrance I received this month Indigo by Nest. It’s categorized under “Office, Unique, and Woody.” Its main notes are fig, Cashmere wood, Cardamom, Bergamot, and Black Tea. I’ve heard a lot about this fragrance, and that it’s a good pick if you don’t like too-sweet perfumes.

I’ve heard a lot of hype about this, and I really get why. This perfume is officially my new favorite discovery through Scentbird! It’s sweet, but not in a cotton candy or vanilla/caramel sort of way. I think I smell the black tea and the fig most on my skin. I have about a billion perfumes but am thinking of making this my new everyday one!

The Verdict:  I love that Scentbird has such a large selection and variety and includes lots of high-end brands that I recognize as well as lesser-known perfumes for me to try! Also, you can always email them requests for specific fragrances. They keep a list of perfumes they plan on adding, and requests for specific fragrances add to that list or bump them up in priority.

As far as value goes, a .28 oz/8.29 ml rollerball sells for $25, so this 8 ml spray is worth about ~$24. I’m happy with that! Especially because the rollerball looks like it’s sold out/unavailable, and thanks to Scentbird I don’t have to buy a full-size to try it.

Scentbird also recently began their men’s subscription for colognes, as well, and you can add them to your queue even if you have a “women’s subscription.”

Suffice it to say that I am extremely unhappy with this service. I would have posted a review on their web page but it does not allow one to. Let me run my story by you …
I joined Scentbird in August of this year. When I first joined I did the $15 membership. That month, although there was pretty slow shipping, went well. I took into consideration that they were apparently “moving” as was advertised on their website.
Nevertheless, because of that I decided to upgrade to the $25 a month plan. This was on September 1st. Scentbird took no time at all yanking that membership upgrade money from my account. Literally, 30 seconds after my upgrade it was taken. I was fine with that, but I had an inquiry. So, I reached out to Customer Service to ask if it would be possible to get my shipment date changed to sooner. It took them 9 days to get back to me. When they did they didn’t even answer my question but instead said that my shipment date was the middle of the month. No specific date. I replied to their response and asked again, “Is it possible to change the shipping date?” 5 days later I got another reply that said, “Oh we are sorry but that isn’t possible. Your shipment date is the middle of the month and you should receive your perfume by the 18th or so.” Needless to say I was not happy with the curt and sort of rude reply but I decided to wait it out.
Here we are on the 25th of September and my shipment has been “Processing” since the 13th. I STILL haven’t gotten my shipment and they took the money out of my account damn near a month ago.
I’ll just say this … They ain’t getting my money every again. The minute that perfume hits my doorstep I am cancelling my service, moving to another provider and telling everyone I know about my crappy experience.
Terrible customer service and terrible shipping! 😤😡

If you like NEST perfume, check out Sephora deal right now. I saw a blog that some of Sephora’s Black Friday deals are back and I ordered. NEST has 3 little roller-balls of Indigo, Verde and Dahlia & Vines for $10! I just got my shipment and they are adorable! There is another one of duo with Midnight Fleur and Dahlia & Vines, I think, for $15. There are bunch of other mini perfume sets. Just be cautious because some of the are “dabber” means no roller-ball or spritz top. I am keeping empty Scentbird vials, clean and use it in the future to either transfer dabber minis or make a travel vial from full-size bottles. Love perfumes!

I love Midnight Fleur by Nest! I am going to see if one of my local Sephora’s has the Indigo next time I go and check it out since I love sweet scents.

I subscribed to the monthly plan in December, but I like it so much I think I should change to the yearly plan and save myself some cash. I only have three full size fragrances in my collection so I am finding this is a fantastic way to try out new fragrances and some old loves that I haven’t owned for many years and I think the size is perfect for travel or throwing in my purse. I am torn though between adding scents I want to try to my queue or just getting the perfume of the month. With the first option I will get scents I already know I love and want but the second option lets me try and be surprised by scents I would never choose on my own. Indigo by Nest is a good example, I may not have picked it but I really love it and will get it again when this one is empty. Aaaahhhhh, decisions, decisions! 😀
