This is the information card for the kit. I love the detail they went into and how they have “most likely to…” award-type descriptions under each one.
IPKN Twinkle Lips in Glow Pink – 4.5g (Full Size!), value: $18
This is one of those pH lip balms that goes on clear but reacts to the pH of your skin to turn a pinky shade that works with your skin tone. I like it! I’ve tried something similar before but it went way too pink on me. This one works well, and I don’t need a mirror to apply it.
Laura Geller Lip Strip Lip Smoothing Sugar Scrub – .23 oz, value: $7.50
I am SO happy they included a lip scrub with this kit because it really is imperative to use one in order to get a flawless lip look. This is especially true when using drier formulas like lip liners and liquid lipsticks and matte products. I like this scrub alright, but it’s just not quite gritty enough for me. The packaging is convenient, which is great, but I ended up actually adding a fingertip of actual sugar to this on my lips to get the level of scrubbing I like!
Here’s what the IPKN balm looks like swatched and on my lips.
(Pardon the harness I’m wearing – I had my son in my Honest Company baby carrier while I took photos!)
ModelCo Illusion Lip Pencil – .7g, value: $9.33
This lip liner has a nice dry formula, and I think it would do a good job at “anchoring” lipsticks as a base to your lip look. It is a little warm-toned, though, so depending on the opacity of your lip product, that may or may not affect the resulting color.
POP Beauty Matte Velvet Lipstix in Satin Rose – 3.5g (full size!), value: $16
This lipstick has a lot of good ingredients in it to nourish your lips. The color is one that would be gorgeous on anyone, and the matte formula isn’t super drying. It’s not the most opaque matte lip I’ve found, but it still has a great color pay off.

Stila stay all day™ liquid lipstick in Beso – .05 fl oz, value: $12
You’re probably familiar with these liquid lipsticks if you subscribe to Birchbox. I’ve found these to be a somewhat polarizing product – either you love it or hate it. Personally, I love it! These (and Kat Von D’s liquid lipsticks) are my go-to, kiss-proof, last-all-day lips! The formula is almost just like paint – it’s very opaque, and dries to stay put. You have to be careful when applying – you can’t do it in a rush and you definitely need a mirror.
I’ve been rocking liquid lipsticks lately because I can still kiss my baby with them on!
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Strumpet – .08 fl oz, value: $9.14
I’m familiar with OCC’s lip tars but I’ve never tried them myself. These definitely stain to help pigment last all day after the moisture has worn off (a little goes a very long way). Note: this is the old packaging (thank goodness they updated it because this is so inconvenient). This packaging always sold with a little mini lip brush because you HAVE to have one to use these. The new packaging (which is what you’d get if you purchased this from Birchbox) is much more portable-friendly and has an applicator like glosses do.
I will say this formula is very liquid-y, and I did notice some bleeding around my lip line. When I wear this I will definitely use a reverse lip liner, which is a clear, waxy formula you use to outline the outside of your lips and create a “barrier” for pigment to stay just on your lips. You can also use one as a colorless base to help your lip products apply better and last longer. (My two favorite reverse-liners are this one by Urban Decay and this one.)

Verdict: I’m really happy with the Lip Sync Kit from Birchbox! I think they did a great job including a variety of formula types and a spectrum of colors. There’s something for everyone, and it’s a great addition to your lip collection. It’ll help you try something you probably haven’t before, and probably find at least one thing you love! As far as value goes, I think $30 is a great price for the $68 value (my calculations actually add up to $71.97).
What do you think of the Lip Sync Kit? Which of these products is your favorite, and which are you dying to try?
