Le Tote Subscription Box Review December 2015 - December - BOX

Le Tote is a month-to-month clothing rental subscription. When you sign up, you browse their catalog of clothing and accessories and create your “closet,” from which they select items to send to you. You keep the clothing to wear as long as you like, and you can also send back your box for a new selection of items as frequently as you like. If you love something enough to want to purchase it, you can simply hold onto it when you send the rest of that box back. Also, if you purchase your whole tote, you get one month free!

FYI – the items in my Le Tote boxes are selected for me based off of my preferences and style profile, so your boxes may look completely different!

December Tote #1!

LE TOTE #5 - ITEMS 1

AVA Talia Classic Wrap Dress – Retail Value: $86 (Le Tote Price: $68)

I liked the way this dress looked on Le Tote’s website, but in person, it’s a stiffer, kind of uncomfortable fabric. Turns out that’s because it’s 100% polyester. Now I know to read the material details on the item’s page before picking it!

LE TOTE #5 - items 2

MATTY M Gridded Sweater – Retail Value: $80 (Le Tote Price: $62)

I liked this sweater! The inside was lined and very warm and cozy. I loved the cuffed sleeves, too.

LE TOTE #5 - items 3

NOIR Yara Midi Circle Skirt – Retail Value: $75 (Le Tote Price: $58)

This is the first time I’ve ordered a skirt from Le Tote. I don’t really wear skirts often (especially in the winter here) but I thought it looked cute and wanted to try it out.

LE TOTE #5 - items 4

Clement Spike Y Necklace – Retail: $28 (Le Tote Price: $22)

Here’s the necklace I picked as one of my accessories this month. It’s like a lariat necklace, but not quite. I actually really like it!

Here’s a closer look.

French Connection Blue Lenny Clutch – Retail: $76 (Le Tote Price: $66)

This purse was fun to use for a bit. It has a few different pockets but I like the blue pocket in the front here because it’s actually hard – making it great to slip my phone into!

December Tote #2!

Le Tote Subscription Box Review December 2015 - #6 - items 1

SEE YOU SOON The Hampton Sweater – Retail Value: $68 (Le Tote Price: $54)

This sweater was a miss. I don’t think the tag said petit at all, but it was definitely too short everywhere, in the sleeves and torso. The color is pretty, though!

Le Tote Subscription Box Review December 2015 - #6 - items 2

OCTAVIA & CO. Turquoise Pendant – Retail Value: $32 (Le Tote Price: $28)

Here’s the necklace for this tote – I’m wearing it in the previous photo. The stone actually spins! I thought it was really cool.

Le Tote Subscription Box Review December 2015 - #6 - items 3

TART Ruched Back Top – Retail Value: $75 (Le Tote Price: $44)

This top was comfy and cool – the back is ruched (see next photo) and the material was very stretchy and soft!

Le Tote Subscription Box Review December 2015 - #6 - items 4

Here’s the detail of the back. I think it’s really flattering!

Le Tote Subscription Box Review December 2015 - #6 - items 5

FATE Ombre Pullover – Retail Value: $68 (Le Tote Price: $39)

I loved this sweater! It’s slightly oversized which made me feel like I was bundled up in a blanket all day. It’s a sweater kit, but it was still on the thinner side so it could breathe. And check out how long those sleeves are!

Le Tote Subscription Box Review December 2015 - #6 - items 6

ANNE KLEIN Tri-Drop Earrings – Retail Price: $26 (Le Tote Price: $19)

I’m wearing these earrings in the previous photo. I liked them because they were simple but still added a really pretty, dressed-up touch to my outfits.

Le Tote Subscription Box Review December 2015 - #6 - items 7

This month they even sent me a Julep polish to say thank you during the Holiday season!

December Tote #3!

Le Tote Subscription Box Review December 2015 - #7 - items 1

KATE SPADE NEW YORK Emoji Studs – Retail Value: $48 (Le Tote Price: $38)

How great are these earrings? The Heart-Eyes emoji is one of my faves, so I just love these studs!

Le Tote Subscription Box Review December 2015 - #7 - items 2

CAMILLA Cluster Station Necklace – Retail Value: $38 (Le Tote Price: $28)

This was a unique necklace. The details and style were pretty.

Le Tote Subscription Box Review December 2015 - #7 - items 3

I really like the little circle pendant pieces here. The detail is cool and I love how they were like this on both sides and not just on one side!

Le Tote Subscription Box Review December 2015 - #7 - items 4

TART Selena Double Striped Top – Retail Value: $58 (Le Tote Price: $44)

This top was really comfy but it was too short! It was a little wide for a looser fit which would work great if it were long enough. Unfortunately, both of those things worked together to be kind of unflattering. (FYI – I’m wearing the necklace in the previous photos here so you can see the length and how it looks on)

SPLENDID Famous Knit Shirt – Retail Value: $138 (Le Tote Price: $110)

My heart is breaking that this shirt costs $110! It’s probably my favorite piece I’ve ever tried from Le Tote. It fits amazingly, is super flattering and comfortable, and the sleeves are so nice and long. It’s thin without needing an extra later and I dig the collared, button-up style. I definitely wanted to purchase this piece, but not for that price. It’s pieces like this that make me glad I can request specific items from Le Tote to be re-sent to me in future totes!

Le Tote Subscription Box Review December 2015 - #7 - items 6

BCBGENERATION Checkerboard Sweater – Retail Value: $78 (Le Tote Price: $60)

Again, I wish this sweater were just an inch or two longer for more flattering proportions, but I liked wearing this sweater. It was thick and warm, and the sleeves were long enough!

The Verdict: I get excited to see my Le Tote packages pop up in my mailbox. This month I went through 3 boxes. My very favorite part of this sub is that I can keep the items as long as I like and wear them before deciding if I want to buy them or send them back. Sometimes it takes feeling how a piece wears before realizing that it won’t actually work for you, or that it’s itchy, or something like that. I also feel like there is minimal pressure to buy items since it is a rental service and not a styling service. I feel this aspect gives me permission to enjoy (and wear!) the clothes and not feel bad or awkward when I send everything back (even though I do often keep an item per tote anyway so far).

Evaluating the value is a little tricky because I think the value of renting clothes and accessories is pretty subjective and different for everyone. I can see this being a great service for someone who uses a “capsule wardrobe” or someone who doesn’t like to wear the same thing twice or has a lot of social events to go to, or even women in the process of losing weight!

I signed up Wednesday! I am a little concerned as your clothes look very wrinkled out of the bag, does that mean I am going to have to iron a lot of stuff? That would be a major turn off as I HATE to iron!

I love the ruched back and ombre sweater!

Isn’t Gwynnie Bee similar to Le Tote?

Reply ButtonReply

Marion

I only tried Gwynnie Bee for their free month, but yes, it seems almost exactly like this (no accessories, though) for plus size women.

I started with LeTote last month after reading your review, and I love it! I’m a plus size, and they have plenty of things I can add to my list. I’ve also been able to try some styles and patterns I normally wouldn’t have thought about, and it’s fun to leave my comfort zone a bit. It feels great to constantly put on new-to-me clothing and jewelry – and the frequent compliments haven’t hurt either!

The gray ombré sweater was a chosen item on Golden Tote a couple of months back and I really like it. What color is the Julep? I love their polishes.

Haley

The Julep polish is in the shade “Maryam” =]

Haley thanks for the review. I just might subscribe to this. Sounds like a great deal. Just wanted to add you have a gorgeous figure and could wear any of the clothes they sent. Sigh wish I did. 🙁

LeTote is fantastic! You can email them about purchasing insurance which is an extra $5 a month. You don’t wash the clothes they do all of that. If you decided to keep an item you just keep it. They will charge you when they receive your tote back. Everytime you decide to keep something they give you an extra item in your next tote or two to try! Love it! My last tote was two purses, pants, two sweaters and a shirt. I’ve been using LeTote for over 2 years and have had nothing but amazing high end items that I otherwise would never be able to wear without this rental service.

I always wondered with rental services like this, what happens if u stain or rip an item ? Do u have to buy it ?

Reply ButtonReply

Haley

Le Tote offers a $5 “insurance” fee that I recommend buying. If you stain or snag an item, or if there’s a small hole, (etc, small fies), they fix it no charge. If you destroy an item, however, yes they charge you for it

So do you wash the clothes or is that something they take care of? I really like the rental concept and it seems affordable. Are they giving you a return bag as well?

Reply ButtonReply

Haley

No, I don’t wash the clothes. Although you can, since you can keep them as long as you want. I’m just scared of washing them wrong or ruining them or making colors bleed or something that once something needs washed, I put it in the return bag (yes, they include a pre-paid return package) to send back.

Great review! I’m still loving my subscription from Le Tote. I love that I can start and stop the subscription whenever I want. I don’t see myself giving up this subscription anytime soon. I don’t believe besides RTR Unlimited there is another service like this, correct?

Haley

Hi Tia!

And no, not that I’m aware of. Which is a shame because I love renting the clothes. No return deadlines or pressure to buy. =]
