This was my first Her Shave Co. Box, so I received a chrome safety razor in my first shipment.  If you subscribe, you will also receive a razor your first month.  This is an added value to my box, that would not be in a normal monthly subscription.

Shave4

Chrome Safety Razor – $20.00?

Her Shave Co. values this razor at $20.  It features a twist open head for replacing blades between shaves, and is quite a bit lighter than my other safety razor.  This would be a bit easier to manage in the shower I think!  (Not that I recommend that – I would probably slice myself alllllll up if I tried that in my shower.)

Shave5

Frosted Woodland Veagan Shaving Soap – $14.00

I couldn’t find this exact shaving soap on Tiki Bar Soap’s website, but I think the one I linked to is the same size I have.  This soap smells great – exactly like it is named!  The consistency is a bit different than I am used to for soap, but I’ve never used a shaving soap so maybe it is common!  It’s a little bit more fluffy looking, but it has the consistency of a balm cleanser.  It was great to shave with, and left my legs very soft!  The smell isn’t so strong that it lasts for hours, so I could see this being used on someone’s face or legs with no problem.

Shave6

Shaving Brush – $12.00?

This is a nice, wooden handled shaving brush.  It worked up a nice lather, and wasn’t scratchy at all.  The bristles don’t fall out easily, and it does the job nicely.  I would imagine if wet shaving is your ‘thing’ you would eventually move up from this brush, since it seems like a decent starter brush, but definitely not luxe.

Shark Super Stainless Blades – $2.00

These blades are stainless steel, and made in Egypt.  The information card mentions that they are known for their consistency and sharpness, which makes them a favorite among many shavers.  I used one of these to wet shave for my first time – since I’m a bit of a klutz, I did nick myself, but I did a lot better than I initially anticipated!

7 AM Hi Platinum Durablade – $1.50

I do not know enough about wet shaving, nor have I used enough razors to offer an expert opinion on the differences between these razors and the Shark razors.  They both did the job, and I didn’t notice a huge difference.  Maybe as my technique improves, so will my noticing the nuances of the blades!

Verdict:  The value of my first Her Shave Co. shipment is $49.50 including the safety razor handle, and $29.50 not including the safety razor handle.  The website promises that your value will always be higher than what you pay for the box, and that holds true here.  The value to you personally will always vary, so if you are interested in wet shaving – this is the box for you.  The quality of all of the items was great, and I really like that with the shave soap you don’t have to have a separate mug – you can build up your lather in the soap mold itself.  I am very interested to see what next month’s shipment entails!

What do you think of the January Her Shave Co. subscription?

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane…the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane…but she’s always looking for a new subscription to try!

  1. I love shaving with a safety razor/brush/soap. Way less irritation. I am glad shaving companies are recoginzing that there are women who use safety razors and all of the accutramonts. I appreciate that everything is not pink/purple and fruit or floral scented. Seriously , some of these gendered boxes market to women like 5 year olds. However it is hard for me to find +$25 of value per month in just blades and soap.

  2. So the products look very nice, but honestly, what woman uses a shave brush and soap? It is called HER shave, right?

I’m going to stick to dollar shave club for practicality and price, but I can see where it might make a nice gift for someone.
