As you can probably tell from my picture up there, this box came to me pretty banged up! One of the sides of the box had come away from the bottom and top of the box, so it was leaking packing peanuts when I got it. This is obviously not the fault of Eat Feed Love, because once it leaves their hands, it's up to the shipping companies, which are not always very careful. Since the box was destroyed, I was worried about the contents - but that was not necessary. This box was packed with such carefulness, that everything was still perfect and intact, even though three of the items were glass! The only thing I think may have possibly fallen out was some additional recipe cards, as when I picked the box up, a few fell out. There's no telling though!
Every month, this company chooses a charity to share in the proceeds from each box, and this month the charity was the Canadian Foodgrains Bank to aid in their initiative to help Syrian refugees. Because they chose a Syrian initiative to help with part of their proceeds, they also chose a Syrian themed box for the month. Which leads us to the products they sent!
Epices de Cru Green Tea - $10.00
I really wanted to try this tea, but my MannaTEA infuser is at work and I couldn't find another one at home. So this will be my treat next week! Green tea can go either way for me, but I think I will really enjoy this one.
Epices de Cru Zaatar Blend - $5.50
One of the recipes included for the box was a zaatar flatbread. I had some dough in my fridge already, so I took inspiration from their recipe and made this! I rolled out my dough, brushed it with some olive oil, and sprinkled the zaatar and salt on the bread. This was delicious! Zaatar is a somewhat new spice to me - Plated introduced me just this year. I was excited to get a tin of it in this box since I've been wanting to experiment with it more!
Olive the Senses Sicilian Lemon White Balsamic Vinegar - $10.00
This was amazing! I used this to dip my zaatar flatbread in, and wow...the flavor packed in this vinegar is out of this world. It is sweet, but not too sweet and just packed with tart lemon flavor. I am dreaming up ways to use this, while wanting to hoard it at the same time. I added a little to my homemade cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving, and it added a nice punch!
Olive the Senses Persian Lime Infused Olive Oil - $10.00
I haven't tried this one yet, but I am also dreaming up ways to use this. The recipe cards that were included didn't include any that would use this (it may have fallen out of my box though), so I am going to find some recipes and experiment. I will say that I love the sizes of these bottles. They're big enough that you can get quite a few uses out of them (they'll probably last me months), but not so big that you'll have them for years and years and risk them going bad.
Olive the Senses Milanese Gremolata Olive Oil - $10.00
I used this to brush over the flatbread. I also made hummus using the recipe card sent, but the hummus recipe they sent included garlic olive oil, which was not in my box. I had some on hand, so I went ahead and made the hummus with my garlic oil and just drizzled this on my flatbread! It was delicious.
Mrs. Jones' Jams - Apricot Habanero Jelly - $7.00
I haven't opened this yet, since I have an overabundance of jellies and jams open right now, but this seems like it would be amazing with baked brie. Around the holidays, my mind goes to simple, easy appetizers, and this would kick my basic baked brie up a notch for sure!
Askinosie Chocolate itty Bar - $1.70
There was a letter included in the box from the founder of Askinosie Chocolate, talking about the creation of the company - it was born of a burnt out criminal defense lawyer, wanting to find new purpose in life! I tried one of these, and it was very good! It's dark chocolate so not very sweet, but this is actually one of the first chocolate bars I can say I tasted the different hints of flavors! It tasted a little fruity to me!
Verdict: This was an awesome box for me. All of the items included were very high quality pantry items I already use. Every item could be gifted, since that's high on our minds at this time of year! The value I calculated is $54.20, their estimated value for the customs sheet was slightly lower, but that may have something to do with the currency conversions. I really enjoyed reading the letter from Emily, who runs Eat Feed Love, and I can't wait to have enough time to throw a dinner party with my Taste Club goodies!
