The Squishy Box Subscription Box Review November 2015 - 3

I must preface this by saying, I have never, in my entire life, typed the word "squishy" as much as I have this evening.

With that out of the way, on to the box!  This box promises 6 squishy Kawaii toys every month, and they deliver on that!  I received 6 toys:  4 keychains and 2 phone charms.

Panda cellphone charm squishy - $6.99

Heart cellphone charm squishy - 6.99?

I was able to find something similar to the panda squishy, but not the heart, so I'm estimating here!

I think these are adorable (I have a feeling I will be using that term quite a bit in this review!).  They are so soft, and yes, squishy, that they would be great stress relief squeeze toys!  I am not one to attach dangly things to my cellphone, so these will probably be put at my desk for the aforementioned usage, or given to a little one to enjoy!

Bread keychain squishy - $0.99

Pastry keychain squishy - $5.98

This little bread squishy is so cute!  The color of the bread even seems realistic, which kind of impresses me...maybe I'm just easily impressed, but they did a great job of making this look real!

This little pastry keychain is also super cute.  It has little balls around the bottom of the 'whipped cream,' and they are falling off.  I don't think this one would last long as a keychain and still look quite as adorable.  It's a little fragile!

Turtle squishy - $5.69

Unidentifiable squishy - $5.69?

This little turtle is adorable, and I know just who I am going to give this keychain to.  My younger sister has three turtles -  I think she needs this on her keychain!

So I must be honest with you, and admit that I cannot identify what this squishy is supposed to be - It is cute, though!  What do you think it is?

The verdict:  I think this box is adorable.  If my estimates are somewhat accurate for the two items I guessed on, the value comes out to $32.33 this month.  The biggest issue I found though while researching pricing is that the cost to buy Kawaii squishies varies wildly around the internet!  Amazon seemed to be very high while eBay was very low - I partially understand the discrepancy, but I have a feeling the markup on these is quite high!  If I were to look at it from the standpoint of "Would I spend $32.33 on these items in the store?" the answer would probably be no. With that said, these are very cute items and only one of them seems like it would fall apart quickly.

I think that the audience for this box is going to be smaller than say, Popsugar, but I think it does fit a niche that isn't represented much yet!

What do you think about The Squishy Box?  I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

I’m actually an avid squishy collector and for the cost, there should be a few more brand names in the box. There are two things, in my opinion, that make squishes expensive: 1) when a brand name has a limited time collection, like the hello kitty donuts (which are really popular amongst the squishy community). 2) How realistic the squishy is. If the squishy is life size, has a fragrance, and heals at a good pace after squishing. The Panda bun is a super common squishy, you can also get the mama panda and baby panda buns. So having it in this box seems kind of a waste considering squishy lovers will most likely already own it. The same can be sort of said about the bread bun with the face, but the coloring seems very nice. The rest are awful for the price. They look as if they’re off market squishies or deco’d by the curator. This box was not worth the price.

I think it is triangle kimbap. Guess is based on a kdrama episode of of “Pinocchio” I watched and also recommend.

While I would never subscribe to this box there has to be a potential market for these or they wouldn’t have created a box. I’m not sure how long this box will last because 6 squishy’s a month is a lot even if you were a lover. I think a smaller box of only 2-3 would be better to receive monthly.

This feels so Asian to me. In Korea kids and younger adults have these sort of decorations on their phones, their backpacks. I always suspected they had huge collections of them at home. This probably hugely appeals to the Manga (is there still a Manga/Anime crowd?), KPop, JPop, and many other fandoms I am not even aware of crowd. It’s weird how so many phone versions do not have the little lanyard area to attach phone charms to, while in Korea I actually purchased an attachment for my phone that was an earphones plug but with a loop on top. There were tons of little earphones charms as well as this style.
That being said, I have too many bills to purchase a box of this style, but then when I bought these sort of things in Korea they were running less than a dollar a piece.

I think that last one is a sandwich with a face. Japanese sandwiches are usually cut diagonally to make triangles and have the crusts removed.

The turtle is actually supposed to be bread also! Which is kind of meta… A squishy shaped like bread shaped like a turtle…
