Pet Treater is a new subscription box for dogs. Select from small (up to 20 pounds), medium (21-50 pounds), and large (51+ pounds). This review is for a large dog box. My dog Nyx, a Rottweiler, is about 82 pounds right now.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

There was no information card in this box, but it did include a letter addressed to Nyx!
Petlou Plush Badger – Value $12.99
Nyx loves plush toys. Granted, she destroys them pretty rapidly. But she loves them. The tail was off of this one in about 10 minutes…
Nylabone Advanced Oral Care – Value $12.99
I don’t think I have seen Nylabone products in a dog subscription box before. I used to buy a ton of things from this brand at PetSmart for Nyx but have had to stay away lately due to her health condition (they have a lot of flavors in them that aggravate her IBD). I’m sure my parents’ dogs will like this a lot, though!
I (heart) Pet Head Dirty Paws Footbath – Value $8.99
This is a tubular container that you are supposed to fill partway with water (the red part is a removable towel). You use it to wash your dog’s feet before coming inside. I like the *idea* of this, but there are two issues: (1) Nyx doesn’t like putting her feet in this and (2) her feet are a little too big to fit in there comfortably. That being said, if your dog is somewhat smaller, this could work for you. (Nyx has the bone structure of a much larger dog but has lost a fair amount of muscle mass due to a prescription medication. She should really weigh 10-12 pounds more than she does and we are going to doggie physical therapy soon to start rebuilding those muscles.)
Full Moon Chicken Bacon Treats (12.5 oz) – Value $6.75
These are made in the USA, which is great. The expiration date was pretty far into the future, as well. This does not appear to be the manufacturer’s current packaging and the treats in this bag look a little different from the manufacturer’s current photo, however. I searched Full Moon’s website for a retail location and found that these are sold at Walgreens and Walmart. While that is great if your dog likes them – you can get more – I am kind of just looking for something more special or unique in a subscription box, than treats you can buy at the drugstore…
Nylabone Happy Time! Chicken – Value $14.22
This is another item that is not part of the manufacturer’s current product line. It is also made in the USA (yay) and is not expired. I can’t give it to Nyx because of her IBD, but it must still have some scent left, even through the package, because one of my cats chewed it open!
Swiss + Tech Dog Leash Light – Value $10.13
This is a 5-LED light that you can attach to your dog’s leash. It has a hanger part that you can put over a leash (unfortunately won’t fit on Nyx’s leash because large dog = thick, wide leash) and also comes with a sticky pad so you can put it on a retractable leash. I’ll probably use it as a mini-flashlight around the house. (It comes with batteries included and, in a test run, it lasted over 90 minutes before I turned it off.)
Style Selections LED Color-Changing Night Light – Value $4.98
This is a really random inclusion for a dog box. I kind of feel like the Pet Treater people got a good deal from a closeout seller of these and threw them in the boxes to pad the value a bit.
Also good to know: Pet Treater is part of JAMMIN’ BUTTER, the same people behind Peaches & Petals. (See Haley’s most recent review of Peaches & Petals here.)
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $71 for the November 2015 Pet Treater Dog Subscription Box. Ordinarily I would be happy with a value that high, but if you look at the product links in this review, many of the items are available only from 3rd party sellers on Amazon. With the treats, I investigated further and found that was because the items (except the dental treat) had either been discontinued by the manufacturers or else the packaging had been changed and someone was trying to get rid of old stock.
Pet Treater is a new subscription box and they may still be working out some kinks in their supply chain. And to be fair, all of the treats were USA-made and didn’t expire for at least 5 months or more. But there didn’t seem to be any curation or theme; everything felt kind of thrown together and some of the items (night light) seemed quite random. For what it’s worth, I’ve had a glance at the December box and it does look better (review coming soon). So I have hope that this subscription will continue to improve.
What do you think of the November 2015 Pet Treater box? Do you subscribe to any dog or cat boxes?
