Orange Glad Subscription Box Review December 2015 - Smore

White Chocolate S'more by Sweet Lydia- $3.83

I usually prefer dark chocolate (the darker the better!) over white chocolate, but I really enjoyed this white chocolate s’more. The marshmallow filling was soft, the cookie crisp, and the white chocolate covering rich and creamy.

Dark Chocolate Clairesquare- $2.66

Clairesquares are shortbread bars with caramel and chocolate. (They’re basically millionaire's shortbread.) I love the caramel, and the shortbread base is flaky and buttery. It’s really tasty!

Orange Glad Subscription Box Review December 2015 - Fudge

Belgian Chocolate Fudge by Mill Fudge Factory (1/4 lb.)- $4

Fudge doesn’t pop up very regularly in OrangeGlad boxes, so I was excited to see it included in this month’s box. Unfortunately, though, the fudge arrived after it’s posted expiration date (12/14). It was only a few days expired, but, still, that’s not good.

Orange Glad Subscription Box Review December 2015 - Pop

Hot Chocolate on a Stick by Pop Bar- $3

I think hot chocolate on a stick is such a fun winter dessert, and I really like that OrangeGlad included it in this December box. I’m not familiar with Pop Bar, but it seems their speciality is gelato on a stick- what a fun idea!

Meyer Lemon Nonettes by Donsuemor- $2?

Donsuemor treats have popped up in OrangeGlad boxes before. I think they make really tasty french goodies, but I’ve only seen their baked goods sold in places like Costco, which makes me question whether they qualify as a small craft bakery. I’d prefer to exclusively see small scratch bakeries featured in OrangeGlad (as advertised), but I can’t deny that the Meyer Lemon Nonettes are yummy.

Verdict: I’m a little ambivalent about this OrangeGlad Sweet Box. I really enjoyed the Clairesquare and the White Chocolate S’more, and I think the Hot Chocolate on a stick is a great addition to this December box; however, I’m disappointed that the fudge arrived AFTER its use by date. Additionally, I think it’s a shame that OrangeGlad has continued to simplify their packaging. Back when I first started reviewing this box, the packaging felt luxe and high end. It was always so much fun to unwrap! Since then, the packaging has slowly been paired back to almost nothing. This box didn’t contain any additional packaging materials, which made the box feel a little empty. It’s also not great for delicate food items to knock around in the box. On a more positive note, the value of this box is the highest I’ve seen in months. Also, I appreciate that the owners of OrangeGlad included a letter to their subscribers. I think it’s a nice touch, especially during the holiday season.

Poor quality and not very much product for the price. Poor packaging as well. Received this as a gift, would never buy from this company on my own.

I wouldn’t recommend subscribing to this box, not when there are so many other wonderful treat boxes out there. I subscribed and never received my first box. I sent emails and posted on their contact us, but never received a response. I was charged for 2 months, but no boxes. When I called to cancel my subscription, I could never get through. I had to cancel my credit card to cancel the subscription. My friend who subscribed with me got her first box, and an item was expired and the rest of the items didn’t justify the cost. I’d suggest one of the many other treat boxes out there.

Everyone is echoing my sentiments on this box – too high in price for what you get, packaging is insufficient, and sometimes there is too much bad (untasty) shortbread. I like shortbread, but not if it is dry and overly brittle. Such a shame because this is such a nice idea for a box. Maybe if you could customize it a bit (pick your treats) it would be better – in every box I got, there would be one or two things I just didn’t like.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to cancel… My fudge also arrived expired. With almost everything, I took a bite and threw away the rest because while the treats weren’t terrible, they just weren’t good enough to justify the calories. I haven’t tried the hot chocolate on a stick yet, but I do love the idea.

I’m glad I stopped this subscription. $19 is way too much for this stuff. Is it just me, or did anyone else get tired of shortbread every month? Don’t get me wrong, I love shortbread, but not all of it was good.

How strange! My box had the crinkly package filler and my fudge was still fresh. Those cookies and the smore bar were good! And the Clairesquare was unbelievable! I haven’t tried the hot chocolate yet. I agree this box is over priced but I love getting the treats too much to cancel. At least for now.

I had to give up this box, it was my favorite. I loved the packaging and with the 40% off coupon it was affordable. Now that they don’t offer discounts anymore and the packaging is all gone it’s super disappointing. I’m not paying $19 for some sweets I really don’t need.
