The information 'card' that Loot Crate included was a pretty good sized anime poster, illustrated by Finni Chang, with the information about all of the items included on the back.  I love that it can serve a double purpose, like the Petit Vour information cards (they're always gorgeous!).  The theme for this first box was "Brawl."

Since I am relatively new to the world of anime, I asked one of my friends, Lauren, who loves (and is quite the expert on) all things anime to give me her take on the box - I know what mine is: I thought it was pretty awesome - but I wanted an expert opinion too!  Her first thoughts were:  "As a lover of all things anime this box is extremely exciting. Considering the theme of this months box was BRAWL they could not have chosen better anime to showcase with the perfect blend of classic with the new."

On to the items themselves!

The Seven Deadly Sins Edition 1 - $10.99

This is the first edition in a relatively new manga series.  I really appreciate that they included volume 1, so those who haven't started this series can start at the beginning.  For those who have already read this volume though, this might be a bummer!

Lauren said:  "Loot Crate made a wonderful choice in Seven Deadly Sins for including newer anime - also seemingly putting in a plug for Netflix since it is exclusive for Netflix only. This anime follows the protagonists that represent the seven deadly sins due to their various ‘sins’ they have committed. Having only heard of this series and not seeing it yet, with this Seven Deadly Sins volume, it makes me want to watch it."

 Anime4

Exclusive - Attack on Titan Bandages - $2.45?

I think these are a fun inclusion, but I am a cartoon Band-Aid addict.  I think I have Minion and Hello Kitty bandaids in the house already.

Best of Anime Mystery Mini Blind Box Funko - $6.99

The Funko I received was Soul from Soul Eater.  This is my first Funko and I think I'm in love!  The mini is just so adorable and tiny!  I had no idea Funko had so many versions of figurines.  I may just have to start collecting the Disney ones for my nieces and nephews!

Exclusive - Loot Crate Anime phone charm - $2.00?

I wasn't exactly sure what to make of this - it almost seems to me like it cheapens the box.  I am sure someone will enjoy it though!  (Side note: I see all these phone charms for sale, but when I look at my phone...I see no place to attach a phone charm...why are these a thing?  Do people buy cases that have places to attach the charms?  So many questions...so few answers.)

 Anime5

Exclusive Loot Crate Naruto Shippuden Akatsuki (Ripple Junction) Tee - $10.00?

Loot Crate was sold out of my size when we went to order this box, so this is a men's large.  I know just the person that will love it though, so it will be going to a good home.  This tee seems to be pretty decent quality - though there was a lot of white lint on it when I pulled it out of the box.

Here's what Lauren had to say about the tee:  "Naruto is an anime that has been around for over 10 years and is still beloved by its fans, so the Akatsuki tee is not only exciting but makes one nostalgic for the old Akatsuki episodes. With the manga series completed and the anime closing in, Naruto Shippuden was a must for this box."

Exclusive Loot Crate Attack on Titan Glass Mug - $8.99?

This mug is really cool!  I love the fact that it's clear.  For some reason, even though the box shows that it is transparent glass, I wasn't expecting that when I pulled it out of the box!  It was a really nice surprise - and I love it!

Verdict:  I thought this was a great inaugural box for Loot Crate Anime.  I calculated a value of $41.42, but a lot of that was guessing simply because quite a few of the items were exclusives for this box.  I think the value is definitely there for anime and manga fans, and the variation of items was great!

As far as sticking to the theme and what hard core anime lovers would like, I'll leave the final words to Lauren, who said this:  "When you think of action you definitely think of Attack on Titan which has become incredibly popular in the past couple years. Thus, the Attack on Titan mug and bandages are a perfect touch. The mystery blind box was also a pleasant surprise with Soul from the anime Soul Eater, another anime that had incredible fights with an outstanding Antagonist. All in all the BRAWL box is perfect for anime lovers. Even if one did not know what anime the items showcased, it whet your appetite to learn more about it. Definitely worth the box price!"

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

I would like to change the size of my t-shirt from L to XL. I would like to know how to do this cause it is not possible with what you have in the questions area. There should be an edit key on our size of t-shirt?

When they announced they where making a anime crate i quickly signed up for a 3month subscription..i got the brawl crate and loved everything they had..i would say your vaule price is off..if you compare similar items in stores like hot topic..novelty bandages cost around $10..shirts near $20, blind boxes $8+,mugs near $20..the phone charm is great for anyone who loves japanese culture and/or kawaii style as these are a huge thing!

Whoops i posted without finishing :/
Since most is exclusive it makes it alot more fun for those who are into anime and collect…but i did wanna make a note…i still haven’t received Decembers crate..it’s supposed to come this weekend(according to my tracking)…as others said the crate got mailed off late because there was a problem with one of the items and they had to replace it..BUT they didn’t offer any discount (on future crates) or anything else! To me that is bad business..i been with lootcrate for yrs and get their lvl ups as well as the anime crate now..they should offer something for it being shipped out so late

Yep. 3 payments and 1 box. They had a problem with the Jan box and we should receive it about the same time as February. Have been charged for both January (on Dec 5th) and February (on Jan 5th). They sent an email saying the Jan box would ultimately be delayed by almost a month without any additional item or any other makeup for the extreme delay. They don’t respond to emails and seem not to care. I was getting this for my 13 year old daughter but have now cancelled.

I find this to be confusing. I have three payments, one box, the other two accounted for future crates or so I’m told.

However, here’s where it’s confusing..

According to their site, November’s crate was Brawl, which I do have, but I did not receive December’s and according to someone I talked to, December’s payment was to January’s crate and January’s payment is to February’s crate..

Yeah it’s weird..you pay in November but recieve the crate in dec..pay in dec receive crate in January..pay in jan but get the crate in February..so brawl is November (even though we got in dec) Decembers crate enchant you will get in January (they shipped late cause there was a problem with one of the items so it had to be replaced) and Januarys crate will be mailed & recieved in February

When does this ship? I have been billed for 2 months and not gotten one box.

The first box shipped about December 1st. The second box hasn’t shipped yet. When did you sign up? The second box may be your first box.

For the phone charms- you can actually buy plugs that go into the headphone jack of your smart phone and attach charms to that. They’re pretty sturdy but of course that might not work if you use headphones a lot. ^_^

My 13 year old daughter who is a super anime fan really loved this box. She is a huge fan of Attack on Titan and Black Butler. She noticed that on the website they show a black butler lunchbox and she really wants that. She is looking forward to the enchant box. Personally, I wanted to get her a totally girly teen subscription box but she seems to love this box so I guess I will be shelling out $30 a month until she tires of it.

Hey Liz,

I wanted to say I love your reviews! Anyway, the real reason I stopped to comment for once, the phone charm! Well, phone charms are actually a super cute way to add a touch of “kawaii” to your phone! We had the little slot to put them on our phones here in the states back when we had flip phones. Now, we don’t really have them (of course). However, in Japan and South Korea they actually have smart phones just like ours that have the little slot for the charms already! 😀 It is pretty awesome! My friend just got back from Japan in October, he brought me back a phone charm. I don’t have much use for it, but that’s when he was telling me that some of the smartphones people had there had the part to insert the charm. C:

Thanks Bree! (And I totally messed up and posted this review first with me as the author instead of Bekki). That’s fixed now, but just wanted to make sure she got credit for this great review 🙂
