GlossyBox Subscription Box Review + Coupon – December 2015

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

glossybox-dec-2015-

GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription box. They have the best packaging in the business, their products are usually deluxe-size or full size, and the value is usually really good too. The only issue with this box seems to be the late shipping – I would recommend just keeping that in mind and setting your expectations accordingly if you sign up for this box.

GlossyBox sent us this box early for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

FYI – GlossyBox sends out multiple variations of boxes each month – so not every subscriber will receive every item in this box.

Each box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included.

glossybox-dec-2015-mascara

MTJ Cosmetics High Definition Mascara – FULL SIZE! Value $21

I could not find a link to buy this mascara online in the US, and it didn’t come with any packaging, so I’m not sure what the ingredients are. That issue aside, I tried this out and I’m impressed with the formula. It adds length without clumping, and a little bit of volume too. (Not as much as my favorite tarte mascara, but I’d still give this a B/B+).

glossybox-dec-2015-scrub

Simple Sugars All Natural Body Scrub in Cranberry – Value $14

(Scents will vary for subscribers)

Does anyone else get excited when they see a Shark Tank product in a subscription box? (I’m also extra excited about this company since they are also from Pittsburgh!)

This scrub is made with all natural ingredients, and I think the cranberry scent is perfect for the holidays. There’s a good amount of oil in the formula, so it will definitely keep your skin moisturized, too!

glossybox-dec-2015-nail-polish

Gold Label Cosmetics Creme Lipstick in First Class – FULL SIZE! Value $14

(Colors will vary)

I love the gold packaging of this lipstick! The color is a little bolder than what I usually wear (a lot bolder, actually), but I like that this shade is a cool toned red lipstick. (Swatched below).

Color Club Nail Lacquer in Feverish – FULL SIZE! Value $8.50

This is a deep red/cranberry creme. (Based on the card it looks like this product will NOT have variation). Color Club is one of my all-time favorite nail polish formulas, so I’m very happy with this inclusion.

glossybox-dec-2015-eyeshadow

GlossyBox Eyeshadow in GlossyBox Mauve – FULL SIZE! Value $11

Well, this didn’t make it to me in one piece, but I should be able to reset it with some rubbing alcohol. I like the color a lot too. It has a hint of shimmer, and the pigment is great. Swatched here:

glossybox-dec-2015-swatch

Verdict: This box has a value of about $68.50. I think that’s a good value for a $21 box! My favorite item in this box is the Simple Sugars scrub. It was a nice surprise to see when opening the box – and I already want to try out other scents (Like Candy Cane!) Since Glossybox includes international brands, and sometimes their own in-house brand, I would love to see them include ingredients on the info card for each item. Other than that, I’m very happy with the box this month.

What do you think of the December 2015 GlossyBox?

  1. I got the same box as Jennifer, with the red lip gloss and the 2.5oz Orogold hand cream. Luckily, my eye shadow arrived intact.

How do you sign up for swaps? I’m thinking about swapping the lip gloss, eyeshadow, and the hand cream.

If you’re wondering about the ingredients for the lip gloss, I found it on the glossy box site:

    INGREDIENTS
Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Triheptanoin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride,Cetearyl Isononanoate, Pentaerythrytil Tetraethylhexanoate, Polyglyceryl-2 Sesquiisostearte, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Hydrogenated Polycyclopentadiene, C30-45 Alkyl Methicone, Isododecane, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, CetylPEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Hexyl Laurate, Propylene Carbonate, Mica, Lecithin Tocopherol, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Aroma
    May contain(+/-): CI 77891, CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499, CI 77007, CI 77489, CI 77742

  2. Glossybox has been a dissapointment in the last few months. My December box was not worth $12.00 yet I paid $22.00. I received a nail polish, mascara, an eye shadow, some lash primer and a tiny sample of some unheard face cream. My daughter got a better deal on her Ipsy bag and all she paid was $10.00. I wish I would have received the items shown on this review, my comments would have been very different. I think it is time to move on and leave glossy box behind. I figure I have spent a significant amount of money and they have not lived up to my expectations. Target & Walmart have been putting better boxes than this.

    • I agree, I got my first Glossy box and was sorely disappointed. That tiny sample of bio-placenta face cream smelled horrible. Thinking of canceling already, which is how I ended up on this website. I am reading her reviews of other box subscriptions.

      • You are probably stuck with January now… if you don’t cancel by/before the 15th, then you will get the following month’s box.
I always set a reminder to cancel on the 13th, just to be safe 😉

If you have the Gilt City deal, you likely won’t be able to cancel until the term runs out… good luck!

  3. Received my box today, and instead of the lipstick and sugar scrub, I received the lipgloss from the Oct box, and the Orogold hand creme. My eyeshadow was also in broken. I liked the packaging this month.

    • I got the same box.

      • I got the same thing.. the eye shadow was broken and I got the October lipgloss.

I emailed customer support and they said they were out of eye shadow replacements and let me pick two items out of a list of about 60 items.

So I’m actually not that upset about it anymore.

  4. Super frustrated with lack of customer Service . I canceled my subscription at the end of November so that I could use my Gilt city subscription. Because I canceled after the deadline I was supposed to receive the December box with my subscription ending with December . I have not received tracking, any kind of notice, or any indication that I am receiving the December box. However, my account online now says my subscription ends in January . I emailed customer service but I don’t have much hope in hearing anything . I run a small business and if I treated my customers like this I would be bankrupt in 6 months. Shameful

    • You should message them on facebook – that’s really the only way I get an answer about anything. Good luck!

  5. From reading the comments, it sounds like some people don’t understand that most beauty subs come with variations.

    • Agreed… as I said downthread, I don’t mind the variations at all. I mind the lack of customer service/shipping issues.
But yeah, maybe if someone is sick of getting too many lipsticks, or mascaras… subscription boxes aren’t for you? You might be better off just going to the store to buy exactly what you need, rather than relying on sub boxes to deliver all the things you don’t have.

Before sub boxes became all the rage, I remember simply going into Sephora or a dept. store/Kiehls counter/etc. to ask for samples, and they would give me a bunch to take home and try out. Then again, I am probably too much of a control freak for sub boxes, which is why I only sub to one box every now & then!

      • That is why my sister won’t do any subscription boxes. I offered to buy her a sub as a Christmas gift, but she didn’t want it. She’s a Sephora fanatic but gets samples with her orders. Because we don’t have a store near us, it’s hard for her to branch out beyond what she already knows/likes. I give her things I get doubles of (thanks to mystery sample packs from BB) or things I don’t want that I think she’ll like, so she does get a little taste of some other products. She’ll likely get more of this now that I have two BB subs, too.

        • That’s really nice of you! I’m probably the same as your sister in some ways, which is why I like to try out a couple off boxes every now & then. I usually find the surprises/variations fun… and isn’t that the point of a subscription box, to have fun and try new things?

Even if I get a 20th mascara sample, hey, that’s another couple weeks I don’t have to buy a new mascara, haha 🙂

    • My complaints were not with the variations themselves – that is the norm with subscription services (and with 7, over a year, I certainly do understand how they work!) My concern is when I open a box and the card within doesn’t match the contents. Naively assuming I can find info about the no-name, unsealed products on the Glossybox website, and then discovering that GB does not even offer these “brands” for sale is the part that doesn’t sit right with me. I am definitely in the sub box game to be surprised and to try new products I wouldn’t have purchased on my own…but something in this whole mess is fishy. A Google search doesn’t even bring up these brand names , let alone instructions for use, ingredients lists, etc. I am not going to slather something that foreign onto my face and hope for the best. I canceled with GB, and as a “good riddance ” gift signed up with a significantly better service in its place. Fingers crossed for better success in 2016.

    • We understand that subs have some variations but the old Glossybox never varied, everyone got the same thing. That seems to be why most people loved Glossybox, plus Boxycharm used to always send everyone the same things too.

  6. So glad I got the Orogold hand cream instead of the Simple Sugars scrub. All five of my products are full-size, and worth $76. I only paid $8.75 for the box!!!!!! No complaints from me. I’ll gift the mascara and the nail polish, and I’m still way ahead. Well done, GlossyBox!

  7. I’m super-disappointed. I was really looking forward to trying the Simple Sugars since they’re a local company for me, and since I’m a Shark Tank fan. That was really the only item I was excited about, and I didn’t get it. Aside from the nail polish and broken eyeshadow, I’m blanking on the other products I got because I was so underwhelmed. If I hadn’t purchased the Gilt deal, I’d be even more bummed (and would probably be cancelling).

    • I agree I was very excited about the body scrub but didn’t get it. I got the box with the orogold hand cream and old lipgloss. I don’t understand the hand cream either it says full size is $18 for 1 oz, but the tube is 2.5 oz.

  8. I have not received my first box. I ordered in November when Liz had a special from another site posted. (My mind is blank). I think I am going to cancel from the reviews.

    • You mean the Gilt City deal? Because you didn’t purchase a subscription straight through GB, you might not be able to cancel through them, and Gilt City may say tough because you redeemed it. I bought the year through Gilt City, and although I’m annoyed that my December box is MIA, I feel like I’m locked in. You may have ordered too late in November to get the November box, so December may be your first box (assuming yours isn’t MIA like mine). Just check with GB that you’re actually set up to get 12 boxes (or 6 or 3, depending on what you bought through Gilt City).

      • Also, I’m not saying don’t try to cancel if that’s what you want to do – just pointing out that it might not be that simple. Hopefully if you want to cancel, you can!

      • Yeah, if you purchased a pre-paid subscription via gilt city, I’m pretty sure it’s non-refundable so you’re locked in.

My December box just shipped yesterday and is scheduled to arrive Monday, so don’t give up yet. It seems like there is a wide range of shipping dates and they may have been backed up with the special edition box. From what I’ve read their usual shipping time is the 2nd or 3rd week of the month so they seem right on time to me.

  9. Heck, at this point I just want my box! It has been sitting in “pack” status since the first week of December. I contacted GB service, but haven’t heard back.
This isn’t the first time my box has been delayed ridiculously… frankly, I’m not annoyed about the variations (because we are warned), rather, I’m bothered by the fact that they can’t get their act together when it comes to shipping/communication.

    • You’re not alone. My November Glossybox arrived without incident. I already had a hiccup with USPS delaying my Birchbox by two mailing days – which of course crossed over a weekend, meaning it was delayed by three calendar days 🙁 Now my December Glossybox is MIA!!! It says it was “In Transit” on 12/10 (a week ago today), then “In Transit” again with the same location in Kentucky on 12/12 (this past Saturday), then “Pre-Shipment Info Sent To USPS” as of 12/14 (this past Monday). It was slated to arrive yesterday, Wednesday, 12/16. Neither the Glossybox tracking nor the USPS tracking sites show any movement.

I e-mailed Glossybox yesterday (18 hours ago) after reading how ridiculous their hold times were, and I got an acknowledgement of my e-mail but no response yet. I know USPS doesn’t update their shipping like UPS and FedEx usually do, but no update whatsoever is kind of ridiculous. I am hopeful that it’ll be in my mailbox today and that the tracking information will catch up, but I’m not holding my breath.

I hope you get your GB soon!!!

      • Ugh, that’s craziness! Be sure to keep us posted on when you finally get your box! Mine… is still in “pack” status and no word from GB customer service

My email to them wasn’t snooty or anything… just pointing out that their site says they’ll ship within 14 days of the order date and I wanted to know the status. It is well beyond that now, because I placed the order right when the Dec. boxes became available on 12/1.
I wanted to see how this month went before committing to more… Luckily I canceled on the 14th, so I’m not on the hook for next month. I’m happy I didn’t give in to temptation and do the Gilt City deal, haha!

        • Thanks for caring 🙂 They e-mailed me back this evening 72+ hours after my e-mail:

“Thanks for writing in! We will reach out to USPS to check on the status of your order. This may take a few days. Your patience is appreciated as this matter is resolved.”

Um, yeah, I talked to USPS yesterday, and because GB uses minimally trackable ground service, basically no scans are required until it’s delivered. Any scans in between are a courtesy, nothing more. So I’m sure their talking to USPS will be enlightening, if they even do that. I feel like this is a nice way of telling me to wait a few more days before they have to suck it up and send me a new box.

    • I also just noticed that when I track it through Glossybox, the section that says “Estimated Delivery Date” used to say Wednesday, December 16 but now says “Delivery date information will be available once details are provided by the carrier.” This is getting sadder by the minute.

      • The same thing happened with my last box! By the time they responded to it the shipping miracously changed back to a eta, so it looked like “it’s right there Ma’am” thing…
This month all I got was the place it left(kentucky I think) and even that was “in transit” and then five things for my city the day it arrived…
What’s the point in having tracking if it wont even track it?
Once they swapped numbers and my box looked like it was arriving in Texas, I was FREAKED! They apologized and told me it was a swapped number but that was a day later after I saw “delivered” and they wouldnt give me any points for the mixup…

        • Thanks for letting me know! That makes me feel a bit better… It did not arrive yesterday, and I haven’t heard back from Glossybox yet 🙁 It’s been about 36 hours since I e-mailed them. The tracking still hasn’t updated at all, so I’m really hoping it just shows up.

Suffice it to say that this doesn’t bode well for re-upping when my current sub ends.

          • I will be dropping GB when my year is up, unless by some miracle they improve some of this stuff!
Thanks to their sad excuse for customer service, thebizarre shipping errors and the fact that they don’t take note of our quiz comments or profile questions. I mean some of the stuff is common sense, like what a very pale blonde could never wear!
Anyways, I hope u get your box soon! It’s really any day now probably and I hope yours fits with what u want better!
            Happy Holidays!

          • As an update, it took until 12/27 (17 days after shipping) for Glossybox to admit that my December box was actually lost:

            “Hi Rebecca,

We are sorry to inform you that the December Box was lost by USPS. According to USPS tracking # [redacted] the package has shown no movement since 12/14 and we were not notified of any delivery issue. We hope you can understand that this was a USPS shipping issue, which was out of our control.

We will reship a box to you as soon as possible!

            Sincerely yours,
            from GLOSSYBOX”

No points, no offer to skip the month and have my sub extended, just another “sit tight.”

I know they’re currently out of stock not only of the eye shadow that came in every December box but of the box in general, so I’m super annoyed with this response.

  10. I requested an additional December box using my glossydots which I earned inviting a friend/family to subscribe. I received the box with the lash food and EMK moisturizer. I am not so excited about the lash food or mascara because I receive a ton from my other beauty and lifestyle subscriptions. The bummer is I received the same samples in my free box despite having an info card saying I got the orogold hand cream and colorphlex detangler. I was so excited when I saw the info card only to be heartbroken moments later. I reached out to glossybox even sending them a picture of the info cards and the products, and as expected they said they sent the wrong info card. I thought the purpose of glossybox is to have you try new things? To me it just shows how they put little thought about what boxes to send to their subscribers.

  11. I just canceled after my 7th consecutive disappointment from Glossybox. Not only did I get a completely different box from this one, I got a completely different one from what the card inside the box indicates. Actually, there were 2 identical cards. Just to taunt me with the products that I’d dearly love but didn’t receive, perhaps? And this is the second time this fall getting a different card than what’s in the box. I’m super glad I canceled. But still, why tease me, Glossy? Come on…that’s just mean.

    • I will also not renew after my subscription expires. It has been a disappointing ride due to the variations.

      • Is the comment function down? I just attempted to post a rant about Glossybox’s joke of a Customer Service department and -poof!- both disappeared, claiming I hadn’t a valid email address. It was a good one, too, designed to let Gabrielle from GB know exactly how her company is treating customers like poo on their shoes! Sigh.

        • That’s a shame. I would have liked to read that one!

  12. I got the COLORPHLEX hair detangler and OROGOLD hand cream. No lipstick and no scrub

    • same 🙁

  13. I’m excited to see what I get now.. It looks like there are a few different variations. I am hoping for the lash primer which since I don’t have any … But I have not even received a shipping notification yet.

  14. I got a variation – and even though it has a way higher value, I’m a bit (greedy/sad/pouty) disappointed that I didn’t get the simple sugars – I love Shark Tank and the products featured on them (I always get comments on my pursecases!).

Instead of the lipcolor I received Colorphlex Leave-In Treatment & Detangler – 2 oz. (value $11)

Instead of the simple sugars I received a generous 2.5 oz Orogold 24K hand cream (value $45 although on websites for $38).

Other than that I have the same other items (Color Club nail polish, Glossybox eye shadow, MTJ cosmetics High Definition Mascara.

Total box retail may be close to $85-$90

  15. My box is different. Instead of the sugar scrub and lipstick, I received a .13 oz sample of Lash Food Conditioning Lash Primer ($10) and a .33 oz sample of EMK Beverly Hills Supra Face Cream ($27.50).

I don’t have a lash primer, so I’m excited to try this one. The face cream is $142 for the full 1.7 oz size, so it *has* to be good, right?! lol

I’m liking my Glossy this month!

    • I got the same variations as you did. I got a lash primer a few months back and absolutely love using them. I am very happy to get another one. I was a little disappointed at the size of the EMK face cream, but it is expensive stuff. I look forward to trying it. Hopefully there is enough product to see how well it works.

    • I received the exact same box, and I’m glad I read your comment cause I was so mad! I really wanted to try the scrub, so disappointed that I didn’t get it. But oh well, might ad well enjoy what I did get, right? Not mad anymore, just a little sad.

    • I also received the lash primer and the Supra Face cream….and a broken eyeshadow, nail polish and mascara….and the ONLY thing I really wanted was the body scrub….UGH….why do you torment me Glossybox!!!

    • This is exactly what I received. Not crazy about the lash primer, as since I wear extensions I only use mascara on my lower lashes and rarely use primer (although I sometimes do). Not totally upset about not getting the scrub since I have some from other boxes, although the cranberry scent is enticing.

    • I also got that in my box. I was rather disappointed as I had also gotten a lash primer like 2 boxes ago and I still havent tried that one!( I hardly use mascara let alone primer)
As for the ant aging cream…I never use the stuff(19 here) and I already have plenty of them to gift to people who do as the come in nearly every other box!!!
I even asked them to NOT send any more anti age stuff in the comment thing on monthly satisfaction thing which they abviously dont read…
Oh and there cards are getting lame…they used to be fun and informative now they’re more ad like 🙁

  16. Now I am sad that I cancelled, but had a financial crisis and needed a few weeks. I would resubscibe now if I thought I would get the hand cream instead of nail polish. I’m not being picky, but I simply can’t wear it since chemo. I’m having a terrible time trying to decide what to do.

  17. Can anyone tell me how to redeem the glossy dots for a box ?

    • Hi Betty,

Please write into our Customer Care team at Contact@GLOSSYBOX.com, so they can further assist you!

      Best,
      Gabrielle from GLOSSYBOX

  18. I don’t know if this is the box I’ll be getting, but I’d be happy with it – given that I paid $9 for the box and it’s December. Every single item in this box would make a good stocking stuffer for one of the three tweens and 3 adult women who’ll be hanging stockings over at my house.

  19. The box is pretty. I have a year subscription and I would like to see something new and exciting in the boxes. Seems like all of the beauty boxes each month pretty much have the same type of product . I would like to see someone think outside of the box and throw something in that is new and exciting. Some good ideas could be found on AHAlife.

  20. The day I bought the gilt city deal I called and spoke to customer service about how to handle the switch. She told me I would have to resubscribe – cancel the subscription and then wait until December or I would get a duplicate November box. On December 1st I used the gilt city deal but used my other email and started a new account. I had very few glossy dots so I didn’t really care about giving them up. I am so tired of mascara but have to keep reminding myself that $8.75 a month for full size products is a great deal.

    • How did you get your box for 8 dollars a month?

      • There was a deal on Gilt City Miami last month where a 12 month Glossybox subscription was only $150.

For new Gilt City members, you could also use a coupon code for 30% off your first purchase, which brought the cost of the 12 month sub down to $105, which is even cheaper than birchbox.

$105 breaks down to $8.75 per month. A LOT of people subscribed using this deal.

  21. I subscribed to Glossybox for a few months and was not pleased but when the Gilt City deal came up it tipped the scales for me. At $1.75 an item it’s totally worth trying a new mascara that I don’t need and another shade of red lipstick I’ll never wear, and if even if I only use one item, the thrill alone is nearly worth $8.75 a box. Maybe I just need to get out more.

    • Good point about the $1.75/item. Last month I loved the marsk shadow and its an item I would not normally purchase for the price, that alone was worth the price I paid for the box.

      • Agree with both of you! The Marsk “you’re toast” is gorgeous. I’d never pay $22 for it, but $1.75 is a no-brainer. Love love love that Gilt City deal.

        • I wish I knew when Gilt City posted the subscription boxes for sale and where on the website. I went on Gilt City when the Popsugar box was supposed to be on there and I couldn’t figure out where the box was. I ended up not purchasing but I’d like to in the future. Gilt City if you are reading this make your website easier to navigate.

  22. This box basically contains: body scrub, mascara, black liner, red lip product, blush, and nail polish. Every month is the same box, over and over again! So boring and generic, I am cancelling. Too many red lipsticks, mascara and nail polish. I LOVE makeup and I can never get enough stuff, true lol… But the thing is this doesn’t excite me anymore. How about more established brands? Or different products? There is soooo much that they could put on here! And their customer service is terrible, just saying.

    • I can’t comment on the customer service but I do know that working with manufacturers is difficult, so expanding into new brands is not just an easy thing to do.

It’s a pretty tough sell to go to a supplier and basically ask for their products at the cheapest wholesale rate possible. Established brands need to be picky about where they’re available and what brands they’re associated with.

  23. I just had the worst experience ive ever had with a subcription service with Glossybox and after my subscription is over I wont be resubscribing. I absolutely loved this box and have praised them on facebook several times. I have since learned what a horrible company they are. I purchased the giltcity deal and emailed them before thanksgiving asking if I could add the 12 months or if I needed to cancel and resub on a new account. The person did not read the email, saw the word “cancel” and took it upon themself to cancel my account and not answer the question. I have tried since November 25th to resolve this. December rolled around and I did not want to miss out on the box so I put in my voucher and thought I fixed it myself. Now my bank was debited for $21 and ill be getting two December boxes. Needless to say im upset. No one will fix it, i cant get anyone to listen and any reputable company would have offered a refund for their own wrong doing. Sorry to rant but I am in disbelief.

    • That is awful .. Hopefully posting on here will get the attention of someone from their company. I noticed them commenting on MSA a few times. Hopefully they resolve this for you.

    • I obviously missed the info about the giltcity deal, so what does that mean for the people who bought and paid for an entire year subscription?

      • About a month ago, there was a deal on GB subscriptions through a site called Gilt City. If you were new to Gilt City, you could use a 30% off code, making each GB $8.75 if you bought the 12-month subscription. I hadn’t considered GB prior to that because it was so expensive, but it made a lot of sense to sign up at that price.

    • they have the WORST customer service, i agree and understand! I cancelled my sub and they kept saying I did not cancel yet i had proof i cancelled yet they still claimed i never cancelled, it was CRAZY! they of course charged me again when it was all really their mistake – i am shocked too and i will NEVER EVER buy a glossybox EVER again…done….at least i got that adorable October box! if anyone is cancelling make sure to take multiple screen shots and make sure you receive an email confirming it too – also, email them that you cancelled in addition, just in case…..even last year, they forgot to send me a box and would not refund the money, they gave me glossy dots for a free box instead, do not accept these dots if they try to do this as the dots have a whole set of other rules to them too! on a happy note, i love Rachel Zoe Box of style!!

      • I definitely wont resubscribe again. A companys reputation means a lot to me when making purchases. I rwont support a company who could care less about me the customer.
After seeing that “Gabrielle” actually reads these posts and could care less about our issues I am even more jaded. She came here to read our posts and didn’t address any of our real issues. Shame on them!!! Fortunately I subscribe to other wonderful boxes that will be around long after this one.

    • Hi Kristi,

We are sorry to hear of any trouble in regards to your redeeming the Gilt voucher. It seems that our Customer Care agent tried to assist you by cancelling your current plan so that you could redeem your new plan (via the Gilt voucher) the following month. This way you would be able to avoid overlapping plans and duplicate boxes. Apologies that there was any confusion and the overlap still occurred. Please send us a message to contact@glossybox.com (as well as reference this blog link) so we can assist you further.

      Best,
      Gabrielle from GLOSSYBOX

      • Gabrielle,

I just sent an email as you requested (this will be #11 since the issue began). Hopefully I dont get the run around again and Glossybox does whats right.
When you have a business its so important to treat your customers well. When you make an error take responsibility. My $21 cant be worth losing a loyal customer.

  24. Box looks beautiful and content seems expected. I am enjoying there European brands of makeup (at least mascara :)). I am suffering from products overload, so I don’t think it is is even possible to get excited about anything anymore. Need to take a break now.
Just wondering, is there a review for the Holiday box?

  25. I love the box itself but I’m not impressed by the contents (and I don’t like having a third of the value from mascara, since I need another mascara like I need a hole in my head)…guess I’ll wait another month to redeem my voucher.

  26. Did anyone else make the mistake of entering their Gilt City deal too soon? I assumed the annual subscription would start after my monthly subscription (the website was showing that my November box had already shipped). I emailed them right away when it looked strange but they ignored me for 4 days and then shipped another November box. When I finally got them on the phone they instructed me to send one box back. I sent it from the post office 3 weeks ago and no response. I’ve tried to call and email but nothing. Has anyone else had this issue?

  27. Liz – which tarte mascara do you use?

  28. I like this box better than the special edition holiday box I just received. That was a total let down. I ended up cancelling GB after a couple months because most of the products just ended up in the trash.

  29. Looking forward to getting my hands on this box. Since this will only be my 2nd box, I’m not yet overloaded with things like mascaras and lipsticks.

    Bring it on! 🙂

  30. I really hope for the hand cream and not the lipstick. I don’t ever wear lipstick, I do wear lip products and of course I have a ton lol. I was going to say that I think the Simple Sugars is a Shark Tank item. I remember the episode and being very interested in the product so I’m most excited to try this item.

I’m a julep nail polish junkie so I really don’t like getting nail polishes in GB or BB. Oh well, this box is definitely worth more than what I have paid for it and the box itself look beautiful.

  31. Looks like the Oro Gold Cosmetics Hand Cream will be a variation product for this month. So only a few lucky gals will receive it in their box. I’m excited again!:D Hopefully I’ll be one of the lucky ones!?❤️ <3

    • Araceli Which product will be subbed? The hand scrub?

      • Im not sure yet. But since the sugar scrub and the hand cream are both body products, I think that that’s the one that will be subed in some boxes:) I could be wrong though.

  32. Ack, I should not have looked at the spoilers.. kind of a letdown. Like most of us, I didn’t pay full price for GB so it’s not a bad deal, just items that I really don’t need more of. More mascara. More nail polish. More scrub. More broken, muddy looking eye shadow. I have enough of those items to last me several years and that’s from only a few sub boxes. After the holidays I am going to become a non-stop-sub-box-canceling machine.

  33. I love the box! GB still has the nicest packaging that I’ve come across. It’s cute, and very usable for gift giving (or keeping for myself :P).

I’ve also had very positive customer service with GB. I always use email, and they respond in 24-48hrs. I think that’s reasonable and it’s been reliable, so I’m fine with that.

If you’ve been subbing for any length of time, I’m really curious what you expect to get if not repeats of items? Yes I love when there’s a “new” product to try, but new only means a different version/formula/color of something else I typically already have. And I give my extras to girlfriends as everyday gifts….I never show up to someone’s house empty handed and they love it. You can always find something to complain about in life….or you can be grateful and have fun. I don’t know. Seems simple enough to me!

    • Thank you Meghan, my sentiments exactly! 🙂

    • I totally agree. If don’t understand why if people don’t want repeat stuff why they subscribe to multiple beauty boxes and just buy whatever they want on their own.

      • Lol! I also don’t get people who say ” I don’t wear makeup, hate lipstick and nail polish” but yet subscribe to multiple beauty boxes 🙂

    • I agree! Glossy was my first beauty box subscription and I still enjoy it. I like being introduced to new brands and being pulled out of my comfort zone with products and colors that I might not have tried otherwise. I like that it is a good mix of makeup and skincare, where others like Boxy are so makeup-heavy. And their packaging is adorable. I didn’t know they had their own brand, so I am keen to try the eye shadow. Love the nail polish color and am learning how to rock a red lip, so this will be a good experiment, if I get that shade. Four full-size items here. I keep seeing people saying it’s not “exciting,” but what are they looking for? What would be exciting?

      • Yes to being pulled out of your comfort zone! I did not even realize how much I ~needed~ a good neck cream until I got one in a sub box.

      • Hey there,

Wow, we are excited for you to try the products in your December box! The eye shadow is great for that holiday smokey eye look. I suggest adding a silver shadow to the inner corner of the eye to blend into the smokey look.

        Best,
        Gabrielle from GLOSSYBOX

    • Yes to all of this! I am a longtime subscriber to 4 boxes, and I’ve come to expect repeats. That’s ok. I love all the beauty products I get. I’m open minded to trying anything new, as well as perfectly happy to get a repeat. If I don’t use something, I just gift it to my sister or friends, and I love to share with them! I gasp every time I see someone say their products “just went in the trash”. Like, wow. I could never throw away a perfectly good beauty item like that. It could always make someone else very happy. And I can’t complain about the price for any of my boxes, because I always get more than what I paid for. The fun of subs is the surprises you get each month. I think people forget that!

    • Agreed wholeheartedly!!!!

  34. I was hoping for some great products this month so I could order one and get that gorgeous box!

Alas, I am underwhelmed. Still waiting for a good box to spend my Glossydots on!

  35. I’m from Pittsburgh and also love Shark Tank, so I’m excited to try the Simple Sugars! I’m really, really hoping I don’t get a red lipstick, though.

  36. Fingers crossed I get the variations you got. Usually I get pale pink lip colors and neutral eye shadows, both of which I hate.

    • I’m the opposite! I would prefer pale pink lip colors, but always seem to red.

  37. I like this products. Although, I thought we were receiving a hand cream from Oro Gold Cosmetics. They posted on their IG page that their cream was going to be included in the Decembers GlossyBoxUS. Kinda disappointed, I really wanted that cream.. And, I wouldn’t pay $21 for this box. This box I bought it with a 30% discount so I paid $14.70. And next month I’ll redeem my Gilt City 12 month voucher, so that will bring my boxes down to $8.75 =) I’m excited for the mascara.. Have a great every one!

  38. If I get the mascara, I think I will have enough mascara to last me until I’m 80 between Birchbox, Target Beauty Box, and now Glossybox (I bought the 12-month subscription through Gilt City). I also have an awesome D&G red lipstick that I got for free as a BzzAgent, so hopefully I’ll get a different color if I get lipstick in my Glossybox. The one swatched looks pretty, though, so I guess I could either give it away or swap it if I get that red. I really like the nail polish and the body scrub, both of which I could use and probably wouldn’t spend the money to buy otherwise. The eye shadow is a little different than anything I have, so I’d be happy to get that as well.

All in all, with the Gilt City deal, I couldn’t really complain if I got this box!

  39. I only like mascara and body scrub, so I might wait until next month to redeem my voucher. I cannot pull off dark eye shadows nor bright/bold lip colors. I checked lip colors on their website and not so many neutral/natural colors for me.

  40. I think it’s an incredible value, and I look forward to my box. I wouldn’t pay $21, but I bought the Gilt City 12-month special, so this box is only $8.75 for me – what a great payoff for $8.75!!!!!!!!

Questions – last month was my first month with GlossyBox. Am I the only one who can’t get them on the phone? Am I the only one who has trouble accessing the surveys? Do you get 5 surveys, or only 3 like I got (that I can’t even open)? Why is their customer service so lousy? Why do they take three days to respond to an email, if at all?

    • Last month was also my first month as I got the Gilt City deal too.

I haven’t gotten any surveys thus far. I haven’t tried contacting them though.

    • Their customer service is the worst! No, you’ll never be able to get them on the phone. The only way that I’ve ever been able to get a response is to send them a Facebook message. Even then, they are rude and not helpful. After my subscription ends, I’ll never purchase from them again!!

    • Hey there Dea,

There are only four surveys available for the month of November. We had a temporary website glitch, but the surveys are up and running now!

      Best,
      Gabrielle from GLOSSYBOX

    • As you can see, their CS monitors this thread so sometimes you can get a response here.

But in general, I have had pretty good luck with Twitter and also with email, you just sometimes have to wait a few days for them to get back to you.

      • Thank you to everyone who answered! This GlossyBox newbie is more informed now – and STILL very happy with getting $60+ of stuff for only $8.75!!!!

  41. It seems like every time they offer a special deal on their boxes they end up being less than stellar boxes.

For a holiday box this one is even more disappointing. Just a snowflake box design for the holiday season. Yea! (sarcasm)

    • This isn’t the Holiday box, this is the December box…

  42. I love everything, including the box! I’m new to subscription boxes and don’t have a lot of makeup yet, so bring on the mascara and lipsticks and polishes.

    • This was me like two years ago…

      • Ha, that was me like 4 months ago! So much mascara…

  43. I was going to say the same thing as you about a product from Shark Tank!

    • Thank you 🙂

  44. As always, a beautiful box but the contents are not exciting. I wish Glossy went back to their old ways of everyone getting the same box with the highest end brands!

  45. I’m happy with every item, especially the scrub and mascara! And the box is adorable. YAY!

    • Hello there Elise,

We here at the GLOSSYBOX office are so glad to hear your excited about the December box!

      Best,
      Gabrielle from GLOSSYBOX

  46. Super happy to see the inclusion of the scrub. I secretly have been wanting to try it. We make our own at home, but this one looks great!
Another mascara and nail polish is a bit disappointing only because if we have more than one sub those really accumulate, however the upside is I will not have to buy those products for a very long time and that’s pretty cool. Love the fall/winter colors. I do not wear super dark eye colors, so I will be gifting that one out. Overall, better than the last month!

  47. Looks to be yet another month of glossybox not standing out against the $10 competition.

    • Agreed. This is why I canceled Glossybox a few months ago. Then when the Gilt City deal+coupon came out… I folded. $130 for 12 months and this box is certainly worth it. I don’t think I would pay full price.

      • Really, if it were 12, even 15/month, I would say its worth it. But putting this box next to other $21/mo subscriptions always makes GB fall short.

Granted, if the value was $70 for fresh, unique stuff, it would still be a different story. But mascara, lipstick, and GB brand eye-shadow? I can’t contain my yawn

  48. Hi Liz! I got $68 when adding the values that you listed 🙂 thank you for posting about the gilt city deal – I an really excited for this one. I have way too many scrubs but I am hoping for the cranberry, also that nail color looks perfect for the holidays!

    • Oops! Thank you – just fixed the total! Glad you got the Gilt City deal – it was such an awesome discount for this box! 🙂

  49. I like the lipstick color you got. I would totally wear that. (I like it better than some of the variations I’ve seen in other reviews, actually.)
