FYTSO Subscription Box Review December 2015 - BOX

FYTSO
3.4 overall rating
11 Ratings | 2 Reviews

FYI - this subscription no longer exists.

FYTSO is a new fitness fashion retailer for women. Every month you work with a stylist to personalize your shopping experience and receive up to 5 items of brand name athletic wear.

Here’s how it works:

1. You start by setting up your style profile (which I found to be really detailed and thorough!), and your stylist uses this to pick out your items for the month.

2. You will then receive an email from your stylist with a preview of what she has chosen for you. (You don’t need to enter any kind of payment information to receive a preview! You can see what they would pick for you completely free.)

3. You can accept this selection or decline it. If you decline, you can email your stylist back to talk about why – you can request different sizes, colors, different items altogether, or ask for a fewer number of items.

(You can reject your selection twice, and after that you just skip for that month)

4. Once you approve your selection, you are sent an email with your invoice for the items and check out.

5. You receive your items and get to try them all on at home. They include a pre-paid return label for anything you may want to send back, and you get 10% off your next order if you keep all 5 items.

For the time being, item selections are limited to short- and long-sleeve tops, hoodies and jackets, sports bras, pants, tights/leggings, shorts, socks, and shoes. However, when I took their style quiz they had a section where you can specify the types of items you’d like to receive and which you’d prefer to not receive, and this list included items like yoga mats and exercise bands and such. I hope that means they plan to one day also offer those things!

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

FYTSO Subscription Box Review December 2015 - items 1

On Track Hoodie Jacket by FILA – Cost: $55.95 (found on sale for $44.99)

This jacket is great! It’s a really nice quality light jacket, which I needed. I think in the future I’ll ask to size up for outerwear because this jacket only just fits, but it does fit and it’s comfortable and I’ll definitely wear it. Because it’s a lighter jacket, I don’t anticipate to be wearing too thick of or too many layers underneath so the fit shouldn’t be an issue for how I’ll wear it.

Stirrup Tights by Nike – Cost: $65.95

I really like these tights! They’re great for running and I can tell that that they breathe really well. I had tights in my first preview from my stylist, and when I declined it (to request for a different color scheme) I also clarified I need long tights, generally at least a 31” inseam. She swapped the tights out with these, which have stirrups that go around my foot and have a specific 31” inseam! FYI - When I search Google for these, I find some links that look like they used to be sold places like Nike (obviously), Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Macy’s but all of those pages no longer exist or the item is out of stock.

Tank by New Balance – Cost: $29.95

I’m happy with this tank. I like the design a lot! The fabric is definitely breathable. The length is great on me, and I think it’s quite flattering.

Gloves By BULA – Cost: $29.9 (found on sale for $14.99)

At first, I was a little unimpressed with these gloves – they seemed really thin and light for winter running, which is what I had asked my stylist about. However once I searched for them online, I found that they are actually glove liners, so you can add a layer to whatever gloves you want. I think that’s really handy (pun intended!) but I wish they would have been labeled as such by FYTSO. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have known what they were and just thought they were lightweight gloves and probably returned them.

Trainers by Nike – Cost: $89.95

(I’m not sure if these are the exact same shoes, but they are really close - the most similar I found!) Exercise is more fun with cute and colorful shoes, right? I think these are really nice. They’re light and comfortable, and the cushion feels great for my feet.

Here’s a look at more detail on the shoes.

The Verdict: Overall, I enjoyed my first month of FYTSO. I definitely like the selection, quality, and style of items they sent me. There are a few small things I hope to see tweaked in the future, though. When searching for links for these items, it seems like a lot of them were previous season’s releases or something – this definitely doesn’t bother me at all since I don’t personally care about staying on top of “this season’s” releases for clothing, really, but where the problem can arise is when this fact means that items are on sale or discounted at other retailers. Another thing is that I hope they label their items a little more specifically (and with the specific names they were originally sold under so we can find them more easily). The gloves they sent me were just labeled as gloves and not the glove liners they actually were. Like I said earlier, the difference between being gloves and glove liners changes whether or not I am satisfied with them as a product so it’s important to label them correctly.

The customer service experience, I have to say, was great. I definitely feel like my stylist paid attention to my profile and when I rejected my first preview asking for a different color scheme and to make sure the leggings were long enough, she responded surprisingly quickly! She got the fit of everything correct and I felt heard.

So far I’d say that FYTSO is more about quality items and the styling service than getting a bargain, but I enjoyed my experience and items enough that I’m looking forward to seeing how future months go.

This company is awful!! I placed my order November 1st, 2016. They never shipped it. I contacted the company and my stylist numerous times to inquire with no response. I’ve now had to go through PayPal to dispute the charge, which is going to take a while as they have to give the company time to respond. Now I can’t even get into my account on their site. It seems to not even exist anymore. I’m highly disappointed. I’ve now seen nothing but negative things about them and wish I never went with them at all!

I am going through the EXACT same problem! They’re awful! I am getting ready to dispute my payment through Paypal as well. Such a rip off.

I did dispute through PayPal and they didn’t put up a fight or even respond. I did get my money back and I suggest you do the same. It’s terrible because I’ve read numerous comments elsewhere with others having the same exact issue. Is this company even sending things out to anyone?!?!

My order was placed on Sept 18 and its Oct 5 and still no info on when it’s gonna be shipped. The customer service is terrible. I would not do business with this company had I not won my subcriptions.

After reading your review, I was interested in this service and filled out a profile. I had a great customer service experience with the survey and my previews. When I got to my cart though, I did some searching – I found all the items in my cart for almost $100 less overall through amazon and under armour. I reached out to see if they would match those prices and haven’t heard back yet, but it’s not in their best interest to do so – just like it’s not in my best interest to pay way more for things.

Hi Cassie!

I’d like to point out that we did respond to your question and we did offer to match those items’ prices that were in your preview and cart. You might have missed that response from us, and if you would like us to re-send it, we’d be more than happy to.

Emily, who was your stylist earlier this afternoon, sent you an adjusted cart reflecting those changes. Again, you might have missed it and we will re-send it promptly if you did.

Also, it is without a doubt in our best interest to offer our services to our customers as efficiently and cost effectively as possible. Hence the price matching policy being afforded to all of our customers.

Apologies for any miscommunication or misunderstandings with regards to this issue, and please feel free to let us know if you have any further questions or concerns by contacting us at [email protected].

We’re always happy to help wherever we can.

Thank you!

Hello! I was another person who was a bit annoyed about finding things cheaper elsewhere, so this is really good to hear. A lot of people (like me) can be pretty shy about asking for discounts/price matching/complaining, even though we know customer service to be nice at the particular company. Thanks for commenting about that here.

Cassie

I was wrong – they did match the prices (in case anyone is interested).

I got really excited for this after having great luck with my first Golden Tote , but it was definitely a let down. Their survey needs work for starters. It asks you if you like or dislike outfit pictures, which isn’t helpful because you can’t comment things like “like the cut, hate the color”.
I also had the problem that multiple products they selected for me were way cheaper elsewhere. One jacket was literally HALF the fytso cost on Amazon Prime.
This subscription is for a person with money to throw around and who doesn’t feel like shopping for her gym clothes. I am not that person.

I thought this service looked great UNTIL I was sent previews a couple months in a row. Now, I totally expect a markup–any company has to make money, but I had just gone sneaker shopping for my niece and I noticed the style FYTSO had sent seemed nice but absent from memory. I did some digging and I found them at amazon for 1/3 the price! I also found a hoodie that was in my preview with a similar markup. That’s just insane, IMHO. Again, I don’t mind a markup, but I think tripling the price of items is a bit much, especially when it’s pretty much been shown that only the very highest end of these services actually pulls items specifically for individual clients.
