Candy Box Subscription Box Review November 2015 - 1

Candy Box
1.4 overall rating
5 Ratings | 3 Reviews

Candy Box is exactly what it sounds like: a monthly subscription of candy!  There are two size options, the Big Box, and the Mini Box.  This is a review of the Mini Box.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription.  For more information on how we review boxes, please be sure to check out our review process post!

The box:  Candy Box

The price:  $20 for the Mini Box and $40 for the Big Box; shipping is free

Ships To: US and Canada

The products:  Candies from the US, UK, Canada, Mexico, and Asia

As you can see above, Candy Box says that they include a mixture of candy from the US, Canada, UK, Mexico, and Asia.  Most of the candy in my box is candy pretty commonly accessible in the US, and I found the same thing to be true last month.

Mike and Ike Original Fruits Retro Theater Box - 5 oz - $2.29

Mike and Ike are one of my favorite chewy candies.  I'm not a huge fan of gummy bears or other such chewy candies, but there is just something about the candy coating on these that I enjoy!  I also prefer the original fruit flavor, so this was a score for me!

Wild about Nerds - what-A-melon and so verry cherry - $1.49

At first glance, I thought these Nerds were just the standard Nerds you can find in the US.  When I started searching, though, I mostly found them on UK and Australia websites - and what do you know?  They're made in Switzerland.  I would have never guessed.  I think this is where informational cards are really helpful for subscription boxes - they can explain where the candy is from and even give a little bit of history, etc.  It would be helpful for sure!

Claeys Candies - Old Fashioned Root Beer Hard Candies - $4.70

These remind me of the root beer barrels I used to eat as a kid!  I still enjoy drinking root beer every now and again, so this flavor is definitely a win for me!  These taste just how I remember the root beer barrels tasting...ah, sweet nostalgia.  On another note, I love that this company is from a smaller town in Indiana where my best friend grew up!  South Bend for the win!

Skittles - Original Flavor - $0.58

Skittles aren't my favorite, but I know so many people who love them.  I just can't stand how they get caught in my teeth (I know...double standard with the Mike and Ikes...)!  So these will be passed along, even though I can see the appeal of adding them to the box!

Candy Necklace - $0.46

Talk about nostalgia...I used to love these things as a kid!  You feel so fancy wearing a necklace...that you can snack on should the occasion arise.  How many of you are in favor of moving this to an adult level?  Bacon watches?  Anyone?  (Yeah, me either...the thought of eating something I'm wearing nowadays turns my stomach a bit).  This will be passed along to a little girl that I know will love it!

Pelen Pelo Rico - original tamarindo - $0.33

I used to eat these in middle school!  These days, I don't come across them as often.  We'll have to see if I end up eating this one, or if my husband steals it from me first!  He grew up eating a lot of Mexican candy since he was born in Central America, so this would probably bring back some memories of home for him!

efrutti Gummy Hotdog - $0.13

This box is full of memories for me - when I was a kid, I ate a TON of these in one sitting.  Needless to say, that night was not a good night for me...I remember being so sick.  I haven't eaten another one of these since.  It's a good thing I know a lot of little ones that enjoy these!  I will make someones day with it for sure.

Hershey's Retro King Size Candy Bar - $2.50

This is a big candy bar!  I practically never buy candy so I forgot how large the king size candy bars are!  This would be a great bar to chop up and mix into some chocolate chip cookies if you aren't a fan of eating straight up chocolate bars.  If you are into eating massive chocolate bars, this bar is your dream come true (right after this one)!

Air Heads - Pink Lemonade - $0.18

I never knew that Air Heads had a pink lemonade flavor!  It's pretty yummy!

Necco Old Fashioned Candy Buttons - $1.40

Wow...talk about memories.  My dad and I used to go to ToysRUs and buy these as a treat.  Since I grew up and he's been gone, I haven't bought these, but I am totally going to eat these, smile, and remember.

Sixlets Candy Tube - $0.35

I cannot tell you how much I loved these as a kid.  For some reason, they were so much better to me than M&Ms.  I still think so!  Maybe it's just because they're perfectly round, and not weirdly circular, but not round?  Yeah, I'm a bit odd, I know!

Zotz Blue Raspberry candies - $1.40

These remind me of Warheads!  Hopefully, I'm not the only one that destroyed my stomach with Warheads as a kid.  These are Italian, so they're 1 of maybe 4 items in the box that aren't from the US.

The Verdict: My Candy Box has an approximate value of $15.81 this month.  I do think that this estimate is a little low, as most of the prices I found were for bulk - purchasing one of each of these items would cost more than the stated price.

In general, I still think the value of this box is decent for the amount and mixture of candies you receive - especially taking into account that buying each item individually would cost more.  I definitely think some sort of informational card explaining why they chose each candy, where it is from, and their estimated value would be beneficial here.

Last month a few people commented that their candy was out of date, so I paid attention to my expiration dates this time.  Most of the candy I received expires in 2016 or 2017, which I am happy with.  Also, some of the items in my box didn't have an expiration date on the packaging - that information would be helpful on an informational card for sure.

What do you think about this month's Candy Box?

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

Candy box is a scam. They charged my credit card and never sent the product. When I tried to email the company I got no word back and when I tried posting to their Facebook page they blocked me.

DO NOT purchase from this company. I purchased a Groupon, never received the box for that, and they charged me for Jan, and never sent that either!

I still haven’t received the December box. I’ve emailed and sent a FB message. I went ahead and cancelled so I wasn’t charged at the beginning of January. But still no response on December.

Interesting. I also got the Mini box but did not get the large bag of root beer barrels. Either way, it’s not worth the cost at regular price. With the Groupon deal, it’s fun though.

I enjoy going through this box with my daughter. I’m pregnant and a candy fiend. My daughter loved the candy buttons and candy necklace. I always love Nerds. Couldn’t stop eating the skittles, even though they aren’t my favorite either. I don’t like root beer and so the large bag of root beer candies will be given away. This is my second Candy Box.
