I have had a lifelong love affair with baklava.  The crispy layers, drenched in sticky honey, mixed with spices and nuts is just heaven in my mouth.  Unfortunately, it's never had a moment, like cupcakes or macarons, but it is rave worthy nonetheless.  If you like baklava, you know that it isn't always the easiest treat to find.

With the 1 pound subscription, they promise 14-16 pieces in each shipment.  My shipment had 14 pieces of baklava, so this box is right on target so far.  They say that if you store the treats at room temperature, they should last about 14 days, and they also give recommended freshness times for the refrigerator and freezer.

This is Ghouribeh, and it is new to me!  This is a very dry cookie, similar to shortbread. According to the recipes online, this cookie is traditionally made with semolina and almond flour.  It was very good!  Because it is a drier cookie, I would definitely eat these with tea or coffee.  They're the perfect snack alongside my mid-morning tea.

This little square treat is pistachio Basma.  It looks very similar to a blondie here in the states.  This was a bit moister than the Ghouribeh, but enjoyed just as much!  They definitely did not skimp on the pistachios in this treat - they are all through it.  Since pistachios are so expensive, I am impressed with how much of the pistachio filling is here!

This is traditional walnut baklava.  They noted under this one, that it is their 'staple.'  I appreciate that I have received (what I know to be) traditional baklava in both shipments so far!  This treat is what started my love affair with Middle Eastern/Mediterranean desserts and I always appreciate more of it!

This is cashew Burma.  It is new to me (as are the Ghouribeh and Basma), and I LOVED this. I think this is my favorite treat this month - it even outranks the traditional baklava!  It is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside.  The flavor is amazing, and it isn't overpoweringly sweet.

The verdict:  I'm loving this subscription. Due to the nature of this box, I don't have a 'value' of the items for you.  With the cost of the 1 pound box plus shipping, you're paying about $1.70 per piece of baklava this month.  That is actually very reasonable compared to what I've purchased it for at specialty shops.  I realize that this box isn't going to be for everyone - if you have an amazing Mediterranean bakery right next door to you, this isn't going to be your thing.  For those of us that aren't in that enviable situation...we have this!  And it is the closest thing to Heaven being delivered to your doorstep you can get (in my oh-so-humble opinion).

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!
