Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review Full Experience Box November 2015 - Info

This month’s featured country is France!

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review Full Experience Box November 2015 - Cards

Yummy Bazaar included a letter, an invitation to share the box on social media, and some information about their Yummy Rewards Program.

Also in the box was a double-sided card with information about each of this month’s featured items.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review Full Experience Box November 2015 - Mustard

French Mustard from Meaux by Pommery (8.8 oz)- $12.95

First of all, I love the packaging of this mustard. I don’t usually like to put jars and squeezy bottles of condiments out on the dining table, but I’d happily make an exception for this lovely ceramic pot. Mustard from Meaux has been “served at the tables of French kings since 1832,” and this particular variety is smooth and whole grained.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review Full Experience Box November 2015 - Rice

French Black Rice from Camargue by Benoit (17.6 oz)- $7.40

I was surprised to see black rice in this French-themed box because I often associate it with Asian cooking. It turns out that The Camargue, a French region south of Arles, has been producing rice like this since the 14th century. The flavor of black rice is similar to brown rice, nutty and mild, and I think it makes a fantastic visual impact on the plate.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review Full Experience Box November 2015 - Spices

Epices Rabelais Spices by Provence Epice (1.76 oz)- $4.50

Epices Rabelais has been producing this spice blend according to the same recipe since 1880. The blend of herbs and spices can be used to season meat, poultry, pates, and rillettes.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review Full Experience Box November 2015 - Chestnut

Chestnut Jam by Bonne Maman (13 oz)- $5.99

I’m very familiar with Bonne Maman jam- it’s my go-to grocery store brand! That said, I’ve never seen this chestnut jam available at any of my local markets. Chestnuts are a popular French holiday treat, and I’m tempted to hold onto this jam until Christmastime and incorporate it into a festive breakfast.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review Full Experience Box November 2015 - Cherries

Griottines Morello Cherries in Kirsch by Peureaux (.6 oz)- $2.95

This jar of morello cherries is tiny! It contains only 3 or 4 cherries, but the small jar is adorable. The cherries themselves are delicious, and Yummy Bazaar suggests adding them to cocktails, Champagne, gelato, or desserts.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review Full Experience Box November 2015 - Cake

French Almond Cake from Provence by Biscuiterie de Provence (8.47 oz)- $15.95

This is my first time trying a cake from a tin, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. To my surprise, it was delicious! The cake itself was moist and full of rich, almond flavor, and it tasted surprisingly fresh. I would absolutely buy this again, and I’m considering keeping one or two on hand to use as (slightly nontraditional) hostess gifts.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review Full Experience Box November 2015 - Crepes

Crepe Dentelle by Gavottes (4.4 oz)- $5.60

These thin, flaky cookies are delicious. They were made for the first time in 1893, when a young cook accidentally overcooked her crepe and discovered that it became a tasty, crunchy snack. Since then, the same company has made them for over 100 years, and, to this day, they still roll each crepe by hand.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review Full Experience Box November 2015 - Chocolate

Milk Chocolate Bar with Salted Caramel Filling by Klaus (3.5 oz)- $4.75

Klaus chocolate is crafted in Morteau, France, near the Swiss border. They pair “French sophistication to approaching fine chocolates with Swiss chocolate tradition and experience.” The bar is simple, but clearly made with care from high quality ingredients.

French Baked Cod with Black Rice

To accompany the items included in this month’s box, Yummy Bazaar included recipes for French Baked Cod with Black Rice and Creamy Lemon Mustard Dressing. I was very curious to try the black rice and Epices Rabelais, so I decided to give the cod recipe a try.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review Full Experience Box November 2015 - Recipes

The recipe was easy to follow and simple to prepare.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review Full Experience Box November 2015 - Cod

The rice had excellent texture- firmer and chewier than white or brown rice. The flavors, however, didn’t quite work for me. I’ve had pretty good luck with the recipes Yummy Bazaar has included in previous boxes, though, so I’m hoping I have better luck with next month’s recipe. For now, I think I’ll do some online research to see if I can find another recipe that incorporates the black rice, and I might try the spice blend on chicken instead of fish.

Verdict: Yummy Bazaar's Destination Food Club has been seriously wowing me. I love the carefully curated selection of full-sized products, and every box I’ve received has introduced me to some incredible new foods. In terms of value, the items in this box total $60, which is excellent. It can be tricky to find food boxes that offer great value as well as great curation, and Yummy Bazaar aces both categories. I don’t know how they do it! This is fast becoming one of my favorite foodie subscription boxes!

Another smart review, thanks! I use the mustard and have tried other items such as the cookies and Chestnut jam, but other foods are new to me and really intriguing (such as the rice and “Epices Rabelais”). Though the recipe was a bit of a miss, I love the opportunity to experiment with new products.

This box looks so good! Great review Lindsay!

It seems like it is hard to find food boxes that are a great value, but this one seems to be really good on value. and from what I can tell, they send quality authentic products which is awesome. I’m a rather picky eater so I’m hesitant to sub to a food box, but if I ever do… I’ll probably have to choose this one.
