Tea Box Express Subscription Box Review October 2015 - items 1

Madecasse Madagascar Chocolate, Sea Salt & Nibs – 2.64 oz, value: $5.99

This chocolate is amazing. I actually just ate the last piece as I write this! It’s 62% dark, has sea salt and crunchy cocoa nibs, and fruity notes.

This Bar Saves Lives, Wild Blueberry Pistachio – 1.52 oz, value: $2.08

This Bar Saves Lives, Madagascar Vanilla Almond & Honey – 1.52 oz, value: $2.08

These bars are all-natural, GMO free, gluten free, fair trade, and bee friendly (I’ve never seen that before!). For every bar bought, their non-profit partner makes a packet of food to send to countries in need, to help prevent malnutrition in children. These flavors are quite good and I love their cause. They have a dark chocolate, cherry, and sea salt I’d love to try!

Golden Moon Tea, Madagascar Vanilla – 2.5 oz, value: $3.99

I haven’t tried this tea yet but the website’s description makes it sound delicious:

“Madagascar mixes rich black tea with slices of real vanilla bean to produce a deep flavor that incorporates notes of dark rum, sweet earth and tropical flowers. Both smooth and exotic, this tea is great served with buttered toast as a special morning treat.”

Monkey Hanging Tea Infuser With Drip Plate – value: $8.97

This tea infuser is cute, but in the last two or three boxes have also had tea infusers in them. They’re cute with the themes, but I really don’t need that many or a new one that  often.

Verdict: The value for this month’s Tea Box Express adds up to $23.11. I’m not happy with that value, especially because the infuser that I won’t use is the largest chunk of that, and I wouldn’t personally pay the price of the sub for a tin of tea, a chocolate bar, and a couple snack bars. However but I am glad to have found a couple new treats that I really like. I think that this box tends to be more about curation than a huge value, and we’ll see how next month’s box is.

This was my favorite tea box, even ordered a second as a gift for a friend. The tea is something special, adding a little honey makes it especially good. It’s true there’s a lot of infusers, and I don’t keep all of them. I didn’t care much for last month’s apple theme either. This time though, the monkey infuser was so darn cute hanging on the Honey and Sweetie mugs from Burke Box. Hubby didn’t want me to swap it and almost got mad (he thinks I’m swapping everything, which I’m not).

Ah I checked the tea website and the 3.99 price is for 1 oz loose. The 2.5 oz tin is 13.99. I got excited that someone was selling tins of tea that cheap lol.

I had the same reaction! Scooted on over to that website to pick up what would be an absolute steal! I agree re: too many tea infusers. I don’t understand why she’s so worried that her subscribers don’t have loose leaf tea infusers? Maybe instead of sending one every month it could be an opt-in sort of thing for your first box??? I have a teapot with a built-in infuser so I never use the ones she sent.

Oops! So sorry for that mix-up, Evian! That also effects the total value of the box significantly, too. Thanks for pointing out my mistake!

I was thinking that 3.99 sounded awfully low for a tin too! $13.99 makes a lot more sense.
