I really am enjoying this subscription. I do not frequent health food stores in my area (there aren't many) - so I don't get exposure to a lot of the brands I see in this box! They also have thrown in coupons and informational cards about several of the brands, which is always nice!
I received quite a few snacks in this box; I kept pulling things out, one after another, thinking “Oooh, there’s more!” I’ve been attempting to eat better, with more healthful snacks, so I was excited to get this box.
Gorilly Goods Pumpkin Seeds & Kale - $2.15
These sound yummy, but they're still sitting in the pile of 'to try.' I've gotten so many snack foods lately, that I have to prioritize the consumption of said snack foods...seeds are usually at the bottom. The description of these on the Gorilly Goods site sounds wonderful though - garlic, nutritional yeast, tamari, and cayenne pepper...yummy!
Vintage Italia Spicy Tomato Herb Pasta Chips - $1.50
Pasta is one of my favorite foods, so these were on the top of my list to try! My 21-month-old niece found these in my stash, and pulled them out for me to open. I loved them - she did not. They were a bit spicier than I anticipated, but these are delicious! I think they would be great for dips - but let's face it - I think most chips are best with dip! The chip is only a vehicle for the dip of choice, bringing me to...
The Better Chip Beet Tortilla Chips $1.19
These are solid tortilla chips. They're a gorgeous fuchsia color! These really would be best with some sort of a dip though since they're basic tortilla chips. This brand makes a jalapeño chip that is out of this world amazing. They're spicy, but so flavorful!
Earnest Eats Superfood Trail Bar $1.20
Barnana Coconut Banana Bites - $3.98
These banana bites were really, really good. I don't think I have ever had anything similar to them in texture or taste. They were a bit chewy, dense, and tasted very much like ripe bananas, in the best possible way. They have three ingredients: banana, coconut, and water. I will be buying more of these. They would be perfect to throw in my purse for when I get hungry and want something healthy to snack on!
Betty Lou's Cashew Pecan Ball - $1.42
JimmyBar Banana Muffin Mini Bar - $1.38
These are in the 'to try' pile! The nut butter ball looks very interesting, and while I'm not usually a huge fan of nuts, I am going to try this. It seems like it would be a great, shelf stable, higher protein snack for me if I like the taste. They also have a few limited edition flavors that look great, like Pumpkin Spice!
Fruit Bliss French Agen Mini Plums - $1.35
I really enjoyed the flavor of these, but the texture was a bit off putting, in my opinion. These are rehydrated dried plums, from what I can tell, and they were very sticky and fell apart as I tried to pull them from the package. I can see these working well to sweeten baked goods or smoothies naturally, but I can't really see myself eating these as a snack.
Most of the snacks were packed into a reusable burlap bag, hence the ‘sack’ part of the name.
Brothers All-Natural Fruit Crisps - $1.00
These fruit crisps were amazing. I really enjoy the texture of the freeze dried fruit from this brand. My favorite types of snacks are crispy, so this filled two of my favorite snack requirements: fruity and crispy!
Pop Art Cheddar Jalapeño Popcorn - $4.50
I haven't tried this yet, but this company looks awesome, and their flavors look even more awesome! Rosemary Truffle? Thai Coconut Curry anyone? Looking forward to breaking into this bag.
Mandy's Chocolate Cookie Thins - $0.61
These I'm definitely repurchasing. They're 90 calories of amazing crispy, chocolatey goodness and...yeah. Definitely my favorite find of the box. They were perfect in every way, and I need more immediately!
Kelapo Extra Virgin Coconut Oil - $1.05
Raw Rev Glo Protein Bar - $1.89
I haven't tried either of these yet but I am curious as to why I would need single serving packets of coconut oil. I think it's handy, but I just can't figure out why I would need these instead of a jar of the stuff...if you have any ideas throw them at me! I will definitely use this because I enjoy cooking with coconut oil. This is cold pressed coconut oil for those who are interested in those sorts of things!
The verdict: My calculated value of my SnackSack comes out to $23.88, just a teeny bit higher than the cost of the box. The curation on this box is impeccable though, and many of the prices are when purchased in bulk. If I were to purchase each of these items individually, it would have cost much more.
As I said, the value here lies in the curation: there's a very nice mix of sweet and savory, and foods that seem like they could be junk food but healthier junk food, like the popcorn, and foods that are clearly healthy snacks, like the Barnana bites. I've been introduced to several new brands to look for while shopping for snack foods through this box.
What do you think of SnackSack? What are your favorite healthy snacks that you think I should check out?
