Included was a two-sided, full-color brochure containing information about the products. It was so big, I really couldn’t photograph the whole thing and have it still be readable…

RawBox Subscription Box Review October 2015 - recipe

Two Moms in the Raw Wow Cacao Nib Nut Bar (1.5 oz) – Value $3

Two Moms in the Raw Cacao Almond Nut Butter Truffle (2 oz) – Value $4

I’m pretty sure I’ve had both of these before, thanks to subscription boxes. (Raw food shows up in vegan boxes fairly often.) I liked them before and I still like them now! Anything with cacao usually goes over well with me, though. On the back of the card with brand information was a recipe for Peanut-Free Thai Noodle Salad.

RawBox Subscription Box Review October 2015 - greens

Pure Planet Cacao-Mint Spirulina (18.75g) – Value $3.20

I often make smoothies in the morning with almond milk, some kind of protein powder, and frozen mixed berries. This worked pretty well in one of my smoothies. It makes the almond milk a greenish, muddy color, but it tastes just fine. Note: This has one of those State of California warnings (“this product contains an ingredient known to cause birth defects…”). This is not an issue for me but I thought I would pass the information along.

Rhythm Superfoods Kool Ranch Kale Chips (2 oz) – Value $5.77

I was skeptical of anything “ranch” flavored that didn’t include dairy. But really, these were pretty good. They did a nice job of imitating a ranch flavor with vegan ingredients. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen these at my local Whole Foods so I may check out some of the other flavors.

RawBox Subscription Box Review October 2015 - juvo

Juvo Shaker Cup – Value $5.99

Juvo Raw Green Protein (1.4 oz) – Value $3.50

Protein powders are a staple of any vegan box, raw or not. This has protein from a lot of gluten-free grain (brown rice, millet, quinoa, amaranth) and seed (hemp, flax) sources as well as spirulina. It made for a pretty good smoothie although I think I would add some cacao if I had to do it over again. Although I am a huge advocate of my immersion blender for making smoothies with protein powder, I appreciate that they included a shaker cup so that people without immersion blenders can actually try the powder!

RawBox Subscription Box Review October 2015 - skout

Skout Black Pepper BBQ Raw Pumpkin Seeds (2.5 oz) – Value $3.99

These had a subtle flavor that I really liked. Plus, unlike other BBQ-flavored snacks, these did not result in garlic breath. In general, I like to eat a lot of nuts and seeds so I was definitely happy to see these.

Coconut Almond Cave Butter (5 oz) – Value $9

Coconut and almond butter are two things I dearly love. I only tasted a little of this on a spoon. I’m going to buy some crackers or bread or something next week so I don’t feel guilty about eating it out of the jar. (I know crackers and bread aren’t raw. I don’t actually follow a raw diet and was mostly interested in this box for discovering new vegetarian-safe foods.)

Solay Superfood in Sacred Strength (0.7 oz) – Value $2.10

Of the three protein/superfood powders in this box, I think this one was my least favorite. It includes a lot of nice ingredients but it had a flavor that didn’t work with my almond milk and mixed berries.

RawBox Subscription Box Review October 2015 - toothpaste

Humble Brush – Value $5.99

The handle of this toothbrush is made from bamboo and is biodegradable. I needed a new toothbrush so this came at a perfect time. It’s a good toothbrush although the feel of bamboo in my mouth is definitely different compared to the feel of plastic. I will get used to it eventually!

Davids Premium Natural Toothpaste (5.25 oz) – Value $7.95

First, I’m excited to see what looks to be a full sized tube of toothpaste. If you are looking for a new toothpaste, it really helps to use it more than a few times before deciding, and you can do that here. This is free of sodium lauryl sulfate, which can irritate some people’s mouths (SLS in toothpaste gives me canker sores so I avoid it). It is also free of fluoride, however, so I will probably be using it to clean my mouthguard instead of on my teeth.

RawBox Subscription Box Review October 2015 - truffles

Living Raw Darkest Cacao Truffles (1.64 oz) – Value $4.49

Hands down, these were my favorite thing in the box (more chocolate, go figure). They had a delightful soft texture with the outside bits providing a little crunch, and the chocolate flavor was really good.

Ello Raw Cinnamon Sugar Donut Dessert Bites (2 oz) – Value $4.99

These looked and tasted like donut holes, although they’re mostly made from cashews, walnuts, and dates, so they don’t really have the texture of donuts. Nonetheless, the advertised flavor was definitely there.

Verdict: I calculated a value of around $64 for the October 2015 RawBox. For a box that is mostly food, that is an exceptional value. Plus, the box just felt substantial, for lack of a better word. There was a lot in there, I felt that pretty much everything was high quality, and it seemed to me like the curators went out of their way to find good products. Also, the food was just generally good, and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t even come close to approaching a raw diet! The only people who might want to avoid this box are people with nut allergies, since a lot of the products did contain nuts.

I just got an email from them, since I signed up for their list. Use code HOLIDAY for 15% off all gift orders in November. I am thinking of signing up. I am not fully raw, but I aspire to be more raw.

Great review! This box seems promising. I am going to check out that toothpaste since I avoid fluoride in my toothpaste. I think we’re over fluoridated. The warning on the spirulina kind of freaks me out, though. Even if I’m not pregnant or planning to become pregnant, I still probably wouldn’t go out of my way to consume that.
