Paw Pack Subscription Box Review + Coupon October 2015 - box

PawPack is a monthly subscription box for dogs or cats. This is a review of the “large” dog box. (PawPack customizes your box to your dog’s size – my dog, Nyx, weighs 82 pounds (she has lost a lot of weight due to an illness). You can see Liz’s review of a past PawPack for small dogs here, although it appears they’ve revamped their subscription model a bit in the past few months.) PawPack focuses on eco-friendly, organic, and natural items for your pet.

PawPack sent us this box for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Here’s a look inside the box. This seemed a bit more balanced in terms of treat/toy ratio than past boxes!

The card this month talked about “Adopt a Shelter Dog” month (which was October) and also had a list of the items in the box.

Paw Pack Subscription Box Review + Coupon October 2015 - puzzle

ZippyPaws Spooky Burrow – Value $9.99

The idea behind this toy is that you put the candy corn “bats” inside the grave stone and your dog can dig them out. I haven’t given this to Nyx yet because I’m worried the candy corn bats might be too small for a dog her size. (Expect to see a lot of ZippyPaws items in PawPack, by the way.)

Charming Pet Spooky Slideez – Value $10.49

This toy is supposed to be good for tooth and gum health (I guess that’s the rope arms). Nyx thought it was pretty fun:

Latham & Company Pet Bandana – Value $5 (?)

I could only find this bandana on wholesale sites where you had to log in to see the price. I’m kind of wondering if it was an accident that I got sent something this small or if I was sent a small dog box to review. Because there is no way this would ever fit on a Rottweiler. I did find someone it fit, though…

Paw Pack Subscription Box Review + Coupon October 2015 - treats

Wholelife Living Treats Beta Boost with Pumpkin (2.3 oz) – Value $5.99

These are made in the USA and don’t have any meat or grains. I’m going to have to ask my vet if Nyx can try them (she has inflammatory bowel disease and has a really restricted diet). Nice to see allergy-friendly treats in a dog subscription box!

Look Who’s Happy Tempt’n Tenders (chicken with pumpkin) – Value $7.99

These are grain free and made in the USA as well (actually, their facility is not terribly far from where I live!). Always nice to discover a new local company. And I think it’s kind of cool that PawPack managed to find two different dog treats with pumpkin in them for this month.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $39.50 for the October 2015 PawPack. That is slightly more than the cost of the box on a month-to-month basis. This has never been the highest value dog subscription box, but I have always appreciated their efforts to find high-quality, grain-free, USA-made treats (and these are items in current packaging that are still being sold by the manufacturers, as well). I discovered some new companies this month, also. The bandana was a bit of a fail and I have to wonder if that was a mistake or if I got sent a small dog box instead of a large one. But overall, this box was representative of what I’ve come to expect from PawPack, though.

Ragan, curious if you can update whether your dog could eat those treats. I ask because my pup has IBD too and several food allergies (dairy, yeast, potatoes) and we struggle for good quality treats. Right now he’s on a LID/novel diet of venison and sweet potato but want to give him treats every now and then!

Ragan, are you on the swap site?? My weenie mix has a life goal of pulling stuffing out of toys and would LOVE that first toy!!! Totally agree that those bats are way too small for a big dog. My bf’s pit would absolutely eat them and she’s smaller than a rottie!

I have an account on the swap site but I have never listed anything. Not enough time in the day…

If you want it, though, send me your address and I’ll just ship it to you. (You should be able to see my email address if you hover over my name.) Someone recently sent me the MFK perfume from Glossybox that I desperately wanted but did not get and I told her I would try to pay it forward. This seems like a good opportunity.

Do you ever review cat boxes? Would love to get an idea what is in them.

Watch for a MeowBox review coming soon (as in, it’s been written and Liz has it), and I’ll be looking into some others in the next few months.

Awesome! I fear mine will like the actual box better than what’s inside the box so I am hesitate to buy until I see what to expect.

Btw your kitty is gorgeous!

Heather

FYI I just went on their site to check it out and it says the month-to-month plan is $39/month.

They must’ve changed it in the past few months. I don’t always check every box, every month to see about pricing changes but I will keep this in mind and update it if they send me another box next month.

I did NOT think Nyx was 82 pounds! She looks so much smaller in the pictures!

Ragan

She used to weigh 95! Her IBD medication has made her lose a lot of muscle mass. But she is an adult Rottweiler so she is pretty big.

Your kitty and puppy are so cute! I hope Nyx gets better soon.

Both your animals are so adorable! My cat would never wear a bandana lol.

What you don’t see in the review are the scratches all over my hands from trying to put the bandana on a different cat, first…

Sara

lol my cat would’ve done the same.
