Oribe Supershine Moisturizing Cream – Travel Size (1.7 oz) – Value $19

No surprise here – this Oribe hair product smells amazing! It’s a lightweight cream that adds a little softness and tames frizz.

Rituals Ginkgo’s Secret Hand Balm – FULL SIZE! Value $17

I just received this hand balm in the October Allure Beauty Box, but no complaints here – I’m happy to have another one. It’s a thick cream, but it absorbs quickly and leaves your skin moisturized but not greasy. I like the scent too!


Candlefish Travel Candle in #82 – Value $8

(The specific scent isn’t listed on the card, so it may vary).

This scent is described as a mix of lavender, thyme, and vetiver. I think I would have preferred the Woods scent (a mix of eucalyptus, fir balsam, and woodland pine). This scent isn’t my favorite – even though I love lavender!


R+Co DEATH VALLEY Dry Shampoo – Travel Size (75 ml) – Value $17

R+Co has the prettiest packaging! Who knew a dry shampoo could be gorgeous? I will likely never run out of dry shampoo thanks to subscription boxes, so while I’m never overly thrilled to see it in a box, I like this one. The scent is great, and it is completely clear too.


Umbra Magnolia Jewelry Dish – Value $10

This is cute! I like that it could also just be a decorative object and not necessarily a jewelry catch-all.


Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Gilded Gold – FULL SIZE! Value $28

This is such a beautiful shimmery gold. It’s super festive – perfect for a holiday box! Also – I just love how eye shadow sticks are so easy to use. (Swatched in later photo).


111 Skin Space Defence Bright Eye Lift Gel NAC Y2 – 5 ml Value $63

Wow – this stuff is $380 an ounce! (This sample is one-third the size of the full-size version). Here is a little summary from Birchbox that helps explain the price:

This soothing eye gel uses a patented NAC Y² formula developed by a plastic surgeon and space scientist to stimulate the body’s glutathione—an antioxidant that strengthens the outer layer of the skin, protects vitality of epidermal cells, and stimulates cell regeneration.

I just tried the smallest amount (I have to make this sample last!) and I found it to be gentle and hydrating. I’m not sure I could ever justify paying $190 for an eye cream, but I also really hope I like it!

Tata Harper Repairative Moisturizer – 10 ml Value $20

I LOVE Tata Harper! It’s a great natural (and pricey) beauty brand, so I love getting their samples in subscription boxes. This moisturizer has a lovely natural scent (if you like other Tata Harper product scents, I’m sure you’ll like this one), and the formula is very lightweight and quick to absorb.


Smith & Cult Nailed Lacquer in Dark Like Me – FULL SIZE! Value $18

My Smith & Cult nail polish collection expands! (I’m a little obsessed with how gorgeous these nail polish bottles are. They are currently on display on my dresser!) The formula is lovely too – and I love this dark purple shade for fall/winter.

Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner in Bang Bang – FULL SIZE! Value $28

I think this is the perfect bold red lip product for someone who is a little afraid of a bold red lip (like me, for example). It gives a sheer wash of color, so you can ease into how much red you want. The swatch below is actually from 3 swipes – so you can really control the pigment.

(One slightly weird thing to mention – my invoice and samples were inside the limited edition box, not just in the main box like usual. In case you bought this as a gift – just a reminder to check inside the box for your invoice!)

Verdict: This box has a value of about $228. I think that’s great for a $65 box (And really great for a $52 box if you use one of the 20% off coupons). With the exception of the candle, all the brands and products are wins for me – so I’m very happy with this purchase. I may buy a few as gifts as well!

  1. Ordered mine a few days ago with the black Friday 30% off. It came today, with the makeup bag but withOUT the main thing I wanted — the eye gel! Hope they send it. It’s hard to prove a negative…

    • Hello Brooke, I just recieved mine , I finally got one with points. I’m also missing my eye gel, & I have a question? Is the Lotion on this supposed to have a foil seal? Thank you. Did BB replace your eye creame ? I’m contacting them tomarrow otherwise I love everything else! I did get a bag with mine 🙂

  3. I ordered a few days after this was released. It arrived today and mine did have the makeup bag in it.

    For some reason, they shipped my mystery sample pack separately and I received that last week.

    • I ordered mine the first day it went on sale and it just arrived today, without the bag. I also didn’t get the email explaining it would ship separately. Kind of frustrating since I’m used to their good customer service. They have been prompt in the past even with the online form responses but that hasn’t happened this time around, at least not yet. If they held some boxes until the bags arrived, which seems plausible, they still missed mine (my order didn’t ship until a few days ago despite ordering well before then). These issues come with sub boxes I know and maybe I’m just more irritated than usual since I’m dealing with receiving almost daily wrong/broken/missing items with my Christmas shopping but man do I ever hate having to chase down missing items.

      • They made me send mine back! I was missing the bag plus an item. I had sent pics. I’m really not happy with them. Their customer service is questionable. I was going to use some of the items. So I had to go and unpack everything I already put away (it arrived on Saturday and they didnt get back right away) and dig out the outside box and dig out the crinkles that were all on the way out… worst, they won’t send a replacement until it is in their hands! All because they sent a box with 2 missing items.

        • @Michelle – They made you return it because they shipped it without two items? That’s crazy! I don’t see how they can guarantee a replacement.

          • I know! I was VERY UNHAPPY! And they didnt even respond right away! I sent a pic on Saturday as soon as I received it. Today they sent me a shipping label. Email and another rep via chat. They won’t ship replacement until they receive it. AND OF COURSE THEY DIDNT OFFER ANY POINTS LIKE THEY HAVE FOR OTHER PEOPLE (I didnt ask – but asked how what they were doing was making me whole) 🙂 Can you tell that I am not happy. LOL

      • ^ Yes! ^ This! I’m having such a weird run of bad luck with my online holiday shopping! Chasing down broken and missing items every couple of days, lately. Not just sub boxes, seems every few orders, I have another mess on my hands. I wanted to collect a bunch of really nice things for gifting without breaking the bank but I’m not sure it’s worth it anymore!

  5. I received a email , they are shipping the makeup bags ! ?

    • Got the same email this morning.. shipping the bags separately. It was worded as if “oh, we forgot to tell you it’s a separate mailing” but I think it’s just CYA-speak for “urk, they noticed, now what?” It’s a great box, though.. kinda wish I’d bought another before they sold out.. but now there’s yet another LE box that looks wonderful for gifting as well.. so.. it’s all kind of chasing your tail.. but the end result is some really beautiful items, perfect for giving or receiving. I keep reminding myself not to sweat the small stuff.. take care of it, then quit worrying about it. 🙂

  6. Do you think they will get more? I was waiting for pay day and now am on the wait list while others seem to have bought multiple. I wish for a limited edition they would limit it to two so everyone can get a chance to purchase.

    • Weird, I bought yesterday afternoon with no trouble. I wonder if they made fewer of these, this time around? Oddly, my mystery sample pack has shipped but my LE box has not…

      • Mine too! I ordered the box and it was out of stock later the same day. I breathed a big sigh of relief when I got my shipping notification…until I realized it was just the free sample pack! Fingers crossed!

  7. I ordered 3 boxes, no makeup bag in any of them, and the eye serum didn’t have a cap ? Only response so far is the auto generated one, blahhhhhh

    • My eye gel did not have the cap on out of the box, but after emptying all the shredded paper and digging through them I was able to find it. Probably yours is also buried in those papers.
      No makeup bag in my box too 🙁

    • My eye serum and the dry shampoo were both missing caps, even after digging through the worms. From the pic above it looks like Liz is missing her cap too. Birchbox hasn’t responded to my complaint yet – makes it kind of awk to gift when caps are missing.

    • I wanted to order more also, tried to join the wait list but it would not let me, I guess it’s for the best til I see what’s happens with the bag issue ?

  10. Liz does the candle fit in the jewelry holder? When I first saw the box I thought it was a candle holder.

    • Yes it does. And the colors match so it looks really good together. I’m thinking that once the candle is used up, I will re-use the container and put a votive in there.

  11. Add me to the list of people who didn’t get the makeup bag! Has anyone who contacted them heard back? I am wondering if it’s worth sending them an e-mail or not.

    • It’s been 24hrs since I contacted them via the online form. Nothing. After I sent the note about the missing makeup bag I got an auto-gen saying that my request would go to the top of the list because I’m a birchbox ace but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Did anyone get the makeup bag? I was going to buy another box as a gift but she will notice the missing makeup bag, she loves subs. Awkward!

      • I have received a response from Birchbox about the missing bag. They said that they are shipping separately and that we will receive an email when they ship. ?

      • Same situation with me (I’m also an Ace) – when I finally got an email 3 days later they said they wouldn’t be able to send me a replacement product so they’re going to refund the whole box. (Granted my box was also a little beat up when it arrived and one of the other products was missing it’s cap).

    • I was missing three of the items. I emailed them immediately on Tuesday evening (around 5:00 pm) and then started an online chat first thing yesterday morning. I was able to speak to rep via chat and get replacements for the three items missing and it appears to have shipped. I have yet to get a response to my email but that might be because the issue was already resolved via chat?!?! I hate that we can’t call and actually speak to someone anymore.

    • I contacted them and they called me 20 minutes later. My bag was shipped the next day and should arrive tomorrow. I received excellent customer service from them!

  12. Is it Novembers regular PS box the one with the really nice candle that was a spoiler? Or was it this box? I cannot remember. I am getting both of the boxes so maybe I am just confused.

  13. The Cynthia Rowley make up bag was missing from mine as well. Since it wasn’t listed on the card, it would have been easy to forget if I hadn’t known better. But I contacted customer care yesterday and they shipped the bag out today. Great customer service to fix the problem and I can’t really ask for more than that. Everyone makes mistakes!

    • Is there an easier way to contact customer care for Birchbox? My add on was missing from my November box when it arrived yesterday. I have a confirmation email, the points added to my account for the purchase, and the charge went through on my card. I just have no item to show for it, and I haven’t received any kind of response from them. I tried emailing, too, so we’ll see how that works.

      • I had an issue with this most recent box and chatted with a customer service rep this morning. I find I get quicker resolution via chat that email.

    • I contacted them yesterday and haven’t heard so much as a peep! So much for customer service!

      • It sounds like a LOT of boxes went out without the bag, do they’re probably overwhelmed. Plus, Aces get responses first, so I imagine that lengthens the wait a bit for everyone else.

        Meanwhile, what’s the deal with all of these boxes going out without the bags? It seems like there have been an unusually high number of mistakes happening with boxes lately. I wonder if they changed packing service providers (is there such a thing?) or something.

        • I’m a birchbox ace and got the auto-gen saying my request would go to the top of the list but that doesn’t seem to be the case. It sounds like they all went out sans the makeup bag. What a snafu! Wish they would just be proactive and send an email to everyone who ordered this box, explaining what happened and how they will fix it. Surely by now they realize that a mistake was made with all the boxes.

  14. Thank you for posting this! I actually already emailed BB this morning because two of my items were missing their caps (the dry shampoo and the 111 skin) so I couldn’t gift the box as planned. I can’t believe I didn’t notice that I am also missing the makeup bag! For that price, they really need to get their act together!

  15. I think I’m going to have to get this one too! There’s some really good products in it that I’d love to try. And I’m really close to being an Ace so I guess I’ll just have to give in!
    I absolutely love the Smith & Cult bottle designs – ever since I got my first one in the Popsugar Fall LE box.

  16. Commented, but doesn’t look like it saved. Mine was missing the make up bag, hand lotion AND the smith & cult nail polish. I was giving this as a gift so slightly annoyed and frustrated. This is the third order from Birchbox that has come to me with items missing. They always fix it in the end but I hate that I have to wait for replacements to be shipped. Would really just prefer it be correct the first time around. Also, annoyed that I can’t call customer service anymore but can only chat or email. I love Birchbox but the amount of issues I’ve had over the past month has been beyond frustrating.

  18. I ordered the luxe box but haven’t received it yet. Fingers crossed that it’s not missing the cosmetic bag. I did receive my November birchbox today and it was missing the LOC lipstick sample I chose! I emailed them, waiting on a response now.

  19. This looks like a really nice box! I just used my points to get some standbys that always seem to run out so I thought I better snatch them up while they were in stock. Still thinking about getting this one though.

  20. Does anyone know of any other codes? It seems I’ve used every one Liz listed and none will work for me, and now that I’ve read the review I want this box!

    • Not a discount code but they are currently running code 100EXTRA to get 100 extra points on a $50 order. At least that would get you $10 to spend in points next time.

    • Every code that birchbox has emailed me in the last two months are coming up as invalid. I have emailed customer service several times. Literally no response, except for. Are you satisfied or unsatisfied. am getting annoyed with their constant offers, and then the codes don’t work. Stop teasing me birchbox!

  22. Just received mine today and I love every item, starting with the box itself, it’s gorgeous! I am missing the makeup case and wrote them this evening about it. My samples were also inside the the Luxe List box, nestled down in the filler. Both the candle and Rituals balm smell wonderful. I tried the 111 Skin before climbing into bed tonight so, fingers crossed! The Smith & Cult polish is gorgeous, too, both the shade and the bottle, and we’re all suckers for beautiful packaging, aren’t we? 🙂 I also received the Ilia in ‘bang bang’ and it’s a little too princess pink but so sheer that it could easily be used as just the barest moisturizing tint with one swipe. Looking forward to trying all the other items, everything really appears to be great quality and a nice mix of items. I’m really tempted to spring for a couple more as gifts, I think my sisters would love this, too!
