L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Mascara – FULL SIZE! Value $5.89

This is one of the best drugstore mascaras I’ve ever tried. It adds length and volume, plus I can layer it on without any clumps! (And considering this is the only full-sized item in the box, I’m happy it is a winner!)

L’Oréal Paris Advanced Haircare Total Repair 5 Shampoo – 1.7 oz Value $.50

This shampoo includes sulfates in the ingredients, so I’ll be donating it. (I have to avoid sulfates in hair products since my hair is color treated).

L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray – 2.2 oz (Travel Size) Value $6.69

I’ve sampled this hairspray before, and I can see why it is a classic. It gives you hold without making hair tacky or stiff. I’m happy to have a travel sized version!

Now onto the foil pack samples:

L’Oréal Paris Advanced Haircare Ultimate Straight Sample Pack

This set includes a shampoo, pre-conditioner and conditioner. I have the same sulfate issue with this shampoo, so this will be donated as well.

L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Volume Filler

This sample card includes the serum and the cream. (I’m not too excited about card samples, so it doesn’t matter too much to me, but it looks like the L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Cell Renewal Night Cream card samples are missing from this box):

Target Beauty Box

And the box also included a card with stickers to help you find your True Match Foundation shade:

Verdict: This box has a value of about $13. (I’m not counting retail value for the foil packets). For me this box is worth it for the mascara and hair spray, so I’m happy with getting the box for only $5, but I must admit it isn’t as great as the past Target Beauty Boxes that featured various brands.

What do you think of the October Target Beauty Box? (Which brand would you like to see them do a branded box with next? I know a few readers mentioned Burt’s Bees – I love that idea!)

  1. I am confused. I just looked at my order that I placed. The items that are pictured in the box that I ordered at not the same as the ones you received. In fact, in the pictured ‘beauty box’-there isn’t a single loreal product.
Is that because the box has sold out-and the picture is just a generic beauty box picture?
I hope so-because Loreal rocks. It is the best drug store brand in my opinion.

    • There were actually two Target Beauty Boxes this month (a first!) and this first one was $5 and featured L’Oreal products. Hope that helps clarify!

      • (SPOILERS)
It does. I got it today-I really like it. Would like the loreal one too-

-Cover Girl “Intensify Me” black liquid eyeliner
        -Goody Hair Ties, 3
        -Hello Toothpaste, 1 oz
-Acure, Repairing Conditioner 1 fl. oz
-Acure, Repairing Shampoo, 1 fl. oz
-Revlon ColorStay Matte lipstick, Full Size
-SW Basics, Organic Exfoliant Sample (2 cloths/treatments)
-Skinfix Body Butter Sample (1 oz)
-Olly vitamins for Hair, Skin, Nails (1 serving)
        The best-IMO
        ROC Deep Wrinkle Night Cream

  2. I emailed Target cause my boxes were missing 2 items each and they refunded the full amount of each box. My sister and I each got 2 one for us and one for our daughters.

    • What email address did you use to contact them? The shampoo had exploded in my box.. I sent them an email and I still haven’t heard back!

  3. I have ordered the Target Beauty Box 3 times and have never received one. Each time I receive an email with a tracking number telling me my order is on the way, each time the tracking number gets this response –

“The Postal Service could not locate the tracking information for your request. Please verify your tracking number and try again later.”

After about one month and several inquiries I am told that the post office must have lost the package. I do not believe In that much coincidence, that the post office only loses these three shipments from Target. I believe that Target never sent any of the Beauty Boxes to me, that they take more orders than they have Beauty Boxes and claim that the post office is at fault. I do receive a refund every time.

I am curious if this has happened to others as well.

  4. Just FYI I emailed Target because I was missing the two items and they only refunded me $1.29. Not everyone is getting a full refund apparently.

    • For all those missing items, I recommend calling over e-mail. My full refund was issued in the matter of minutes!!! I do have a REDcard. For those who weren’t offered I refund I’m curious if you are Target cardholders? Perhaps that is the difference(which isn’t right either way). If you are cardholders, I suggest calling back to speak with a different representative. There is no reason not to be fully refunded as others!

      • I agree that calling to request a refund might yield a better result. I spoke to someone on the phone and got a full refund immediately. I did pay with a Target REDcard so that may have been a factor.

    • I got a full refund but I’m guessing it’s because I paid with my Target red card.

    • Called in and received the same refund. Don’t have a REDcard. Maybe that is the difference, as others have noted?

Disappointed with this especially since this was my first box I nabbed before it sold out and I’ve been looking forward to it.

    • I got the same $1.29 refund through email. They first tried to tell me the night cream wasn’t supposed to be in the box, but then listed out the items included in the box, and the night cream was on the list! They ended up just doing the refund for the 1 item since it was indeed missing. 🙁 I guess I should have called. I don’t know if it’s too late now….

  5. Did a lot of people not get the conditioner with the shampoo bottle? I only got the shampoo bottle, but I thought you would get both per the picture.

  6. I emailed them.
I ordered this box for the mascara and the shampoo & conditioner (s & c are some of my favorite samples to receive). I don’t use hairspray, so not having the conditioner was a let down for me.
Hopefully they refund me or send me out the conditioner.

Do better next time Target!! I don’t like the road these boxes are headed down!

  7. Ok, I feel I must say that even without the one foil pack of night cream, the mascara and or the hairspray was worth $5. I do think that they messed up by not including the night cream in everyone box. I also feel that it was a bit misleading of them to include the Total Repair 5 shampoo and conditioner in the photo but only send the shampoo. And the color match stickers should not have been counted as an item. I am hoping that they next box will be awesome to make up for this one cream short of a happy box.

  8. Once again MSA to the rescue! I too was thinking, wait a minute…I’m missing a foil sampler card and a conditioner! So glad to see I wasn’t alone and I can let them know to get a possible refund. Thanks again ladies!!

  9. If you are missing any items call or email Target. I have gotten money credited back.

    • I agree. I complained and they refunded the cost of the entire box. If enough people complain there is a highly likelihood they will not let it happen again.

    • How long does it take to hear back? I emailed them but haven’t heard back from them.

  10. I didn’t get any of the skincare samples. I don’t really care about them, but they definitely dropped the ball on this box.

  11. I was also missing the foil sample and called Target and they’re sending me a $5 gift card so I suggest to call. I love this mascara and was excited to try hairspray so it was a win-win for me. I like it when they do mixed brands in their boxes would love to see the Burts Bees or other brands also featured.

    • Hey! what number did you call? I also called and they offered to refund me 10% -__- lol I said no thanks. I was missing the foil packet and the hair spray 🙁

      • I paid with my Target Red Card (debit card). I called the number on the back of the card. They offered me either a $5 gift card or a full refund. I chose the refund.
        Here’s the phone #:
        1-888-729-7331

  12. I was also missing the Age Perfect Cell Renewal Night Cream as well as the conditioner.

  13. For $5 plus tax this box was fine. (I have never had to pay shipping and I don’t have a RedCard…maybe buying on phone instead of computer helps?).

II am weird because the thing I was most interested in was the foundation matcher, I know, I am weird. :-). I can usually never find the right shade for my skin tone and have spent money on tinted BB/CC creams (not foundation so much) which look weird on my skin. Now, I have a better idea what shades to look out for.
The mascara was awesome. I tried it on and had a delivery come while my preschooler had a melt down, woke the baby up and set the dog howling; so I had just put it on – didn’t blot. No weird black marks on my face, no clumping and I liked the feel of the brush.

My hair is… Special. So, I didn’t expect to really get use of the hair care stuff. I will probably give them away to friends or if I finally do some swapping (finally off waiting list, yay!) will just send those as bonuses.

Target box is a win again for me.

    • That sounds like an average day at my house, lol. Although usually it’s the delivery man who gets the dogs barking who wakes up the baby who causes the preschooler to start screaming “TOO LOUD!!!”

      • “Loba & K” ~Lol!!! You girls made my day with that! Every time I see little ones, I wish I had just one more, then I remember this! Lol!! My teenagers are No Better! Always fighting.. & it’s not as cute. Enjoy it!! It goes too fast!!??
PS. Not too thrilled about the Target Box. I always buy 2, so my daughter (17) has one, too. Will probably pass these on to her friends! They L❤️VE the little beauty things I give them. XO

  14. Like everyone else my night cream sample was missing and like one ther reviewer I called to complain about it and Target immediately refunded the cost of the box. I probably wouldn’t have used that sample anyway but it was nice to get the whole box free just because Oma foil pack was missing. I love the mascara! I thought it was great to get all the little shade strips for matching the foundation cuz I always struggle with getting the color right with drug store brands. I was really happy with this box and would’ve still been happy even if they had not refunded my money. ❤️

  15. I agree, this box was worth the $5 for the mascara and the hairspray. I’ve been using the shampoo and so far I’m not impressed. I like the boxes better when multiple brands are included and I probably won’t be using the coupon since it’s limited to L’oreal.

I’m glad I finally found a way to be notified by email when new target boxes come out, thanks for doing that 🙂

  16. I got 2 of these boxes just for the hairspray! Seriously the best hairspray I have ever used! It’s great for not damaging hair & being easy to brush out

  17. Liz, are u going to post about the Freeman Mystery Beauty Bag? Looks like a good deal. I got one.

  18. Should have mines tomorrow. Don’t mind the occasional foil packet. Have discovered some good products that way. They prob put this out to try and pacify the ppl who complained abt the last box because it was for curly hair. Lol

  19. The mascara was worth the $5, and I got this expressly for this.
I was disappointed that the Age Perfect Cell Renewal Night Cream was missing. Also I wish they had included the Advanced Haircare Total Repair 5 conditioner to go with the shampoo.
Oh well hope the next one is better.

    • I was also disappointed that the conditioner wasn’t in the box. I believe the pictures showed the shampoo and conditioner.

  20. I’d love to see a Target beauty box with more products from SheaMoisture and/or Pacifica.

  21. I almost ordered this and decided against it because it would have been over $10 with shipping. I’m so glad I exercised restraint.

    • It was free shipping. it was just the $5 plus tax.

      • If you use your target card it is an additional 5% off~

      • Did you buy it with their Red Card? I think I read that all shipping is free when you make purchases with the Red Card. When I put it in my cart and went to check out, it added shipping.

    • shipping was free for all boxes

  22. I picked up two of these boxes simply because I love the mascara, and I can always use travel sized hairspray! However, I think Target should have included a lipstick, if they really wanted to curate a great box showcasing Loreal products because Loreal has good lipstick, too. The foil packs and card samples are a disappointment, and especially the fact that the Age Perfect Cell Renewal Night Cream ones are missing from everyone’s boxes! Not cool, Target…

    • “especially the fact that the Age Perfect Cell Renewal Night Cream ones are missing from everyone’s boxes! Not cool, Target…”

I have this “sample.” It is on a piece of black cardboard with a pic of Julianne Moore on it. It is tiny black peel away about the size of a dime. The cardboard piece is the same size as the others in the box and looks like an ad for the product. You have to look very close for the peel off circle with the sample.

      • That little sticker dot wasn’t the sample. That’s a tester for the back of your hand to see how much damage skin you have.

      • That is nof the sample. The dot is just for you to see how dry your skin is and how much you need their night cream.

        • Thx Teresa and Suzanne – Sorry, lol. I didn’t look at it very good. Like most, just got the box for the mascara and hair spray. Thanks for the info!

  23. I would love to see a Pixi box or Yes To box (with each sample a different flavor i.e grapefruit, carrots, coconut etc).

    • I like both of those brand box ideas! 🙂

  24. It looks like everyone was missing samples. I didn’t have the night cream or the conditioner either. For anyone missing products, email Target. They refunded my money right away. Very disappointed in this box!

  25. Holy sponsored box batman!

  26. I ordered this box just to try the mascara, but next time they do something similar I won’t take it … foil packet samples are not cool besides My Cell Renewal Night Cream samples are missing too! 🙁

  27. I agree with the other comments, this box was less than spectacular. However, I will be able to salvage some of it. I am going to remove the night cream and volume fuller and add a few goodies from my stockpile of samples. I plan to give the modified box as a holiday gift for a young woman on my xmas gift list.

  28. My box was missing the Age Perfect night cream sample as well and that was the reason I wanted this one…to try the night cream! Disappointed. May not order from them again.

    • If I get it I’m happy to mail to you. I don’t use samples and I was just going to add to a swap as a bonus. My email is Goldman.jennifer@gmail.com if you want to contact me.

      • Thank you Jennifer…that’s nice of you!

  29. I got a notification from this site that the target box was available, but for some reason when I went on the target site to order mine their site kept glitching and simply wouldn’t let me order it. Did anyone else have this problem? It was really annoying. Oh well this month’s box didn’t seem all that great anyway, but I’m addicted to getting any new box that comes out and I really wanted to try the cult fave elnett hairspray before buying a full size and you can never go wrong with a new mascara to try, but I guess that won’t be happening for me this time around. Hopefully next time I won’t have that problem.

    • Yes I’ve had this problem the last two times! I don’t know if it’s my Android phone or what but it just never loads.

    • That “glitch” happens when they’ve sold out and the system is still trying to catch up…it happened to me with a big sale they had on coffee pods =)

  30. I’m glad I skipped this one. The entire box being L’Oreal wasn’t for me. The foil packs were not for me, especially. They’re very difficult to use. I almost got the box simply for the $5 off coupon, but this time even that is L’Oreal-specific. I also thought about getting this simply for the mascara, but I read some reviews about how hard it was to remove, and that’s not for me!

  31. I got excited when I got your notification that it was out, but then thought it looked boring and didn’t even order it. Seems it went down a notch while Walmart picked theirs up a notch.

  32. I passed on this one because of all the foil packet samples. I was disappointed in this box. Definitely not as good as the past Target Boxes. The mascara was the best thing, and the sample hair spray. Not worth the price of the box.

  33. Mine hasn’t come yet, but I did pick up two because of the mascara alone. I’m never very happy with foil packets.

  34. I got it because I love this mascara but this box was definitely eh.

  35. That’s the only hair spray I use and I pay more than $5 for the travel size so anything on top of that was a bonus and I loved that the mascara was full size. I tried it this morning and think it may be my new go to since when I use up all of the travel size ones I received. This was the first Target box I’ve been able to get before it sold out.
