Peaches And Petals Subscription Box Review October 2015 - BOX

Peaches & Petals
3.7 overall rating
38 Ratings | 11 Reviews

UPDATE from Liz: After posting this review, several readers have commented that the eyeshadow in this box may not be counterfeit and, in fact, may be from the Smashbox Beauty Resolutions Kit for Sephora sold in 2009. (Here is a review of this kit from Dazzle n Sparkle).

Either way, I would recommend considering throwing out this product to remain safe. (Also - any listings of this product on swaps will be removed for safety purposes).

Peaches and Petals is a monthly lifestyle box that sends you “fun, flirty and fashionable vintage-modern” items. You can expect items like fashionable jewelry, accessories, and beauty samples.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Also included was a sneak peek at the spoiler item for October!

Peaches And Petals Subscription Box Review October 2015 - items 1

Elizabeth Arden Tote – value: $40

This was the guaranteed/spoiler item for this box. It’s a pretty cute bag. The only thing that has me questioning it is that the tag says that this tote is “a free gift with any $42 fragrance purchase.” I know stores like Sephora and department stores often have offers where you get a free bag with a fragrance purchase. I like the tote, but I just wonder how they got a big batch of these that were apparently intended to be free gifts with purchase.

The rest of the items came in this little box.

Peaches And Petals Subscription Box Review October 2015 - items 3

Barielle Pro Essentials Skin Care White Tea Antioxidant Moisturizer – 1.5 oz (Full Size), value: $12

The info card prices this at $14.99 but Barielle’s website sells it for $12, so I went with that. I’m not familiar with this brand, but I’ll give it a try.

**Smashbox Eyeshadow Trio in “Glow On” – value: $28?**

It is very, very important that I emphasize that this product is, to the best of my knowledge, counterfeit. I tried searching to see if I could find any old packaging of authentic trios, and the only place I find this packaging is on sites like Ebay. First of all, “Glow On” isn’t even a shade offered in this line of products. Secondly, the label on the back says it was made in China, and Smashbox cosmetics are made in the USA. Third, the true Smashbox eyeshadow trios are packaged very differently. The black plastic of the case goes in between each color in the true trios, and the lid flips up on a hinge, whereas this one unscrews. It’s possible that this is just a very, very old product but the packaging feels cheap – nothing like what I’d ever expect from a premiere cosmetic line at any point in time. Also, it came with no kind of seal or box at all. Authentic ones from a store come in a box.

Also worth mentioning: Even if this were authentic, it came to me in such poor condition that I’m surprised someone from Peaches and Petals actually felt okay putting it in my box. So, even if it is authentic and just old, I’m still upset about this item. See below for a close-up.

Peaches And Petals Subscription Box Review October 2015 - items 5

Like I said, there was no seal of any kind, and the packaging was sticky, scuffed up, and very dirty.

Peaches And Petals Subscription Box Review October 2015 - items 6

Peaches And Petals Subscription Box Review October 2015 - items 7

Another discrepancy between this product’s packaging and real Smashbox eyeshadow trios is that the real ones are called “Photo Op Eye Shadow Trios” and this doesn’t say “photo op” anywhere. Also, authentic ones have a little chart on the back showing the name of each individual color in the trio.

Peaches And Petals Subscription Box Review October 2015 - items 8

Anne Taintor Magnetic Postcard – value: $2.99

This item feels like an odd inclusion to me. It’s just not my taste, either.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Polish in Vigorous Violet – Full Size, value: $3.99

This polish is a pretty shade, and I haven’t tried this Sally Hansen polish before. I found this color for sale online, but not on the Sally Hansen website, so it may be an old shade? I’m not sure.

Verdict: To be honest, this month’s Peaches and Petals box concerns me. There’s something weird about a few of this month’s items, and sending super old or counterfeit beauty items is a huge red flag for me. Personally, sending a counterfeit beauty product is just about unforgivable to me, especially because it puts subscribers in danger! There’s no safety regulation and a lot of bad things can happen by putting unsafe makeup on your skin.

The value adds up to $86.96, if you use a $28 value for the questionable Smashbox shadow trio.

What do you think about Peaches and Petals? How do you feel about the issues I have with this month’s box?

Having difficulty canceling this subscription (not a fan of the scruffy, low quality beauty items in the October box). Every page on their site works EXCEPT the one where you cancel the subscription – Big old ERROR message. I’ve emailed customer service, so hopefully they’ll solve this problem, but I’m going to be royally aggravated if I get billed for November’s box.

Besides the old and damaged products, this box is advertised as something it is not : “fun, flirty and fashionable vintage-modern”; “Our team will source relentlessly for fabulous products.”

If they had called it “Flea-Market Finds” or “GWP Gems” and stated how they really sourced their stuff, I’m sure some people would still want to sub and at least you would know what you were in for (but never damaged or dirty products). Companies already do this: The Cosmetics Company Stores in outlet malls have sold the GWPs from Clinique etc. for years, and even though I knew I could get them for “free” with purchase, I mostly never wanted or needed the purchase part, I just wanted the fun little samples for $10–$20. Also, Harry and David used to sell at a discount (maybe still does) apple and pear seconds that weren’t as pretty or blemish-free as the premium fruit.

The saga continues, Peaches and Petals has deleted all of my comments from their Facebook page, including my negative blog review and any reference to MSA. They have also banned me from commenting on their page all while ramping up the November box promotions. They have yet to acknowledge the old products that we received and are pretending like it never happened. Peaches and Petals is turning into Pits and Seeds, it seems they do not have a moral compass and continue on business as usual. Subscribe with caution ladies

Peaches & Petals

Hello lovely subscribers!

Wow! For a company that just got their feet wet, all of your feedback has been more than helpful! We have heard all of your requests and concerns with open ears, and we are most certainly going to put them to good use to improve our future boxes. We appreciate all your feedback, both positive and negative. We want to work with all of you, as a team, to make Peaches and Petals, better and better each and every month. Thank you very much!

From this feedback, we understand that you would like to see more lifestyle items and less beauty, and the good news it the November box is exactly that! While we cannot know exactly what everyone will love, we truly hope that you enjoy the extra efforts of our entire team, in selecting items for you in the upcoming box. We make every effort to make our box at an incredible value of only $15 per month, and typically the spoiler alone is worth more than the cost of the box.

Once again, thank you for your understanding. Your thoughts and concerns are important to us, it will guide us to make Peaches and Petals a monthly experience you will love for a long, long time!

Gratefully yours, the ladies at Peaches and Petals!

Peaches & Petals, if you listened to your clients, you would see that most of us, especially on this particular forum, aren’t upset with the lack of lifestyle items. The majority of us are upset by the old, questionable, and DAMAGED makeup and beauty items you included, and the complete lack of acknowledgement of our complaints. Inexpensive product isn’t an issue for many people given your price point of $15, other subscription boxes give drug-store brands out all the time – but damaged materials and non-sealed packaging makes me personally uncomfortable. Unusable items should never be included in a paid subscription.

I got my box today and was happy with it, especially considering it was my $7.50 introductory box!!!

The main reason I subscribed was the tote — I knew going in that it was a free-with-purchase tote, but since I was never going to spend the $42 on fragrance to get it, I was happy to have another way to get my hands on the leftovers. I honestly wouldn’t mind if the featured item in every month’s box was an old “fwp” product. Better than having cool overstock go to waste.

I got Sally Hansen’s “Fuzzy Coat” nail color in Peach Fuzz, which I think is fun. I probably would have preferred the Insta-Dri from the MSA review, however, because it’s one of my drugstore go-tos for cheap one-coat wonders.

I was happy that my Anne Taintor magnetic post card was funny — it’s a woman in front of a TWA plane and it says “We all have our baggage.” I’ll definitely use it.

I’ll probably toss the face cream into a box destined for the women’s shelter. I don’t dare replace my moisturizer now that I’ve found one that doesn’t break me out or dry me out. The container itself looks pretty good and it has a round, clear sticker “sealing” it at the seam.

And I’ll probably use the Smashbox. I don’t actually own very much shadow. I’m not a big fan. But it wouldn’t hurt to have more on hand. I feel like people are way too worked up over it. All signs point to it having been legitimately manufactured by Smashbox in 2012, making it 3 years old (and still unused). I have makeup at least three times as old as that, and used hygienically (with clean brushes), I feel fine about it. Some people are so in a tizzy one might think there is some toxic parasite in it that would eat your brain if you used it once. Those people should probably not be subscribing to $7.50/$15 bargain boxes, haha.

I also got another product in my October box — a “Surprise Beauty Item” for redeeming 200 “Peach Rewards” points that I earned by buying a couple things in their store (which I did because I got 20% off by joining Peach Rewards). The Surprise Beauty Item was a vanilla lip gloss shaped like a macaron, made by Kikkerland. It’s super cute and smells yummy, but I was kind of hoping for something with a little higher value.

I’m really looking forward to November’s box. I just hope that I can’t buy everything in the box on ebay/amazon for less than the cost of the box ($15) — that would be the literal deal-breaker for me.

I got my box a few weeks ago, and didn’t even think about checking on these items! I was so excited!! I’ve been using the eye shadow almost daily, and I haven’t had any issues. After I saw the feedback I thought I’d check around. I saw the post on here about checking it on checkfresh.com and looked up my code. Mine has 12222-1 on it. It gave me the date 2012-02….which yeah is outdated. I checked around on that page though, and the front page says: Production date. Unused cosmetics also lose their freshness and become dry. According to EU law, the manufacturer has to put the expiration date only on cosmetics whose shelf life is less than 3 years. The most common periods of suitability for use from date of manufacture:
Perfumes with alcohol – about 5 years
Skin care – minimum 3 years
Makeup – from 3 years (mascara) to more than 5 years (powders)

Expiration dates may vary depending on the manufacturer.

I think I feel ok using it since I’ve not had any issues, and that sites states powders can be good for over 5 years.

After several back and forth emails with a customer service rep named Miranda, Jammin Butter dba Peaches and Petals still refuses to take ownership over the distribution of discontinued products. They keep saying it is ok. I took matters into my own hands and filed a complaint with the TN Attorney General’s Office, maybe they can get to the bottom of it. As far as I can tell Jammin Butter does not directly source there products from the brand, they use third party channels to buy large lots at a low price. Don’t trust anything but the tote and magnet, everything else should be tossed.

If they stand behind these old, expired, potentially counterfeit products so much I’d like to see them do a makeup tutorial video using the cream and eyeshadow we received. Other reputable subs show women from the company trying the products they feature (Birchbox) so if the are so vehemently defending this stuff lets see them use it!

This was a post from Lit-Cube on facebook (impressive box). This is the way a new company should handle problems:

HELLO heart emoticon PLEASE READ heart emoticon
The *supernatural* boxes are JUST now hitting mailboxes. I’ve received several emails/messages. I’m going to try to say this with out any spoiler info. ONE specific item in the box had issues during shipment. It was in a tiny, red organza bag. If the cork popped out, add water (if you want) and pop it back in. That is all I can offer & that’s all I would do if you sent it back to me. If it came BROKEN, please let me know and I’ll figure out a way to send you a new tiny part to add back to the “item”. (EMAIL me: [email protected]) NOT all of these items are the same, I’m sorry. Some do not have the tiny glass vials at all, or only have ONE. That’s how they were made and I didn’t have any way to send them back, have them changed, and get them to you guys without *literally* postponing shipment for a WEEK at least. If you are super upset you didn’t get a vial, let me know, and I’ll get one to you as soon as I can get some in. Please know that we work VERY hard here at Lit-Cube. I do. My family does each and every month. We LOVE our business and take great pride in what we do. I have *ALWAYS* replaced broken/damaged items, missing boxes, boxes that the USPS decided to eat, etc., without ANY hesitation. But please know I am a human. My husband and children are human. We can easily make mistakes, an item may accidentally get left out of 2 of the 600+ boxes we ship monthly. We appreciate the benefit of the doubt and request a bit of respectfulness/kindness in your emails as we will ALWAYS give the same to you. heart emoticon heart emoticon heart emoticon
P.S. THANK YOU for getting us here. THANK YOU for being amazing! & THANK YOU for making Lit-Cube the coolest/most FUN book subscription box there is!!!

I read this, and promptly reached out to the company. They allowed me to cancel with no problems.. However, they did not ONCE address the fact that I wanted to cancel because they sent out old makeup, meaning, they did not even try to deny this fact. Also, I tried calling them first, before emailing them, to get to the bottom of it, and was told the voicemail box was “full.” If you still subscribe to this… Please take my comments into consideration. I assume they will release some sort of statement, but WOW!!!

Side note: If you have problems canceling your subscription from your phone, the rep told me in an email, that the platform isn’t mobile friendly, so it needs to be done from a PC!

What a disappointment this turned out to be! My eyeshadow was all sticky and gross. I used to purchase those Smashbox kits on QVC years ago. The cheap moisturizer’s jar was even beat up and scratched. I could of bought the nail polish at Marden’s surplus for. 99 cents. Now to figure out how to cancel and I’ve already been charged for November. I had such high hopes for this box. ?

I signed up last month and I have tried multiple times and I can not log into my account. It is saying my email does not exist. Looks like they are trying to stop me from unsubscribing by not finding my account. Anyone else have this issue?

I emailed directly to [email protected] to cancel. Their FAQ’s state that you can cancel from the “Manage My Subscription” link on the account page, but I found no sign of that link. I did receive a confirmation that they received my email but have not yet heard back from them.

Ellen

Try looking for the e-mail you received when you first subscribed. There is a link in there that should direct you to your subscription account (which I guess is different from their main site – pretty sneaky). I was able to cancel this morning.

Christine

Thank you that worked 🙂

I looked up that Tote and it was released during holidays in 2013. Aren’t gifts with purchase are specifically marked as “not for sale”? If yes, they cannot send it out in a box. Frankly, the last review you wrote tempted me to sign up for P&P but this month’s a total nay for me. Everything is outdated, old and looks straight out of junkyard to me. I would stay away from them for now.

I opened my box and had the same reaction. I tossed everything but the bag. Not taking any chances with sketchy products.

Stacy

I’m the Stacy Lynn Carr from the screen shot of their Facebook page. It sort of appears I was “liking” Peaches and Petals comment but it was actually the comment above it questioning the authenticity and freshness of the Smashbox eyeshadow I liked. I just cancelled my subscription today too. I have the October box on its way to me right now and I’m already wishing I’d never subscribed. This just feels like Frenchbox Part 2 all over again. (And yes I was unlucky enough to be one of their subscribers during the whole February box fiasco) Honestly these new subscriptions should research and learn from past mistakes of others. Subscribers are too smart to let expired, counterfeit products slip by unnoticed. If you’re going to be cheap about it avoid makeup and beauty products at all costs. Even cheap jewelry and accessories are a bit more appealing and forgivable. They claimed today in a reply to a woman on their Facebook page that the November box will contain little or no beauty products but I think they’ve already sealed their reputation. I’m going to buy a cheap fringe scarf on Amazon and call it a day with these people.

Reply ButtonReply

Caroline

They lost me at individual make up not sealed. even if not knock off it could still be tampered with. I don’t swap on MSA or buy on ebay anything make-up that is not new sealed. Why would I consider buying a sub that practices selling unsealed not from manufacturer items?

Cancelled sub plus got them to cancel my Oct sub as had not shipped

Reply ButtonReply

Marissa

I entirely support this review and the follow up posts. This subscription is shady at the least and regardless of age no eyeshadow should be sent out looking like that! So happy I didn’t subscribe. No thanks on the 6 year old makeup or free with purchase totes

I threw the entire box and contents away.
2 days after I received the box, and 2 days after I had emailed them to cancel my account, the company “Jammin Butter”, which is their business name, charged me for the next month’s box.
I successfully disputed the charge with PayPal.

To Haley and Liz: ” Thank you for seeing what I also saw, and thank you for warning women about the safety issues with old products”.

For those who are still subscribed, or maybe you just haven’t gotten around to cancelling yet, CANCEL SOON. They are already rebilling for November!
They were able to circumvent my cancellation of the recurring charge on PayPal and charge me as a regular charge, which is now cancelled.

I don’t care if they promise you the sun, moon, and stars for November, this is SHADY bad business.

I went ahead and emailed them with screenshots of my account page and their no longer there FAQ page. I got the support email from their FB page.

[email protected]
“Your FAQ are gone. I had to google how to cancel. But my account page now only shows orders, and no place to cancel. As I’ve already paid for November’s box, I want my subscription cancelled for December on.
Thank you.”

I had the same problem! I spent probably 30 minutes looking for their contact info, and they claim it’s because they aren’t supported in a mobile-friendly format. It seems to me–they realize everyone wants to cancel, so they made it really difficult! I assume they want to quickly bill for November, and try to make that box better, hoping it makes up for this…

So, it looks like their FAQ are gone. On my account it’s only showing orders, no place to cancel.
Can anyone else see where you can cancel this sub? TIA

I was just able to cancel: Try using the link you should’ve been sent when you first subscribed. There is a “Cancel” link under the subscription tab. I am waiting for firther confirmation, but my account does currently say CANCELLED.

I don’t care what brand the makeup is, but even unopened eye shadow has a shelf life. Thanks, MSA, for keeping us up-to-date on when something smells fishy!

THANKS!

I ended up going in last night and completely canceling. I also emailed them and asked for a refund on the November box. There are way too many good, legit subscriptions out there to waste good money on a company that doesn’t seem to care about its customers. Even their response that one of you posted seemed snarky and for a new company its not inly a red flag its a huge no no.
