Le Tote Subscription Box Review #1 - BOX

Le Tote
3.7 overall rating
24 Ratings | 10 Reviews

Le Tote is a month-to-month clothing rental subscription. When you sign up, you browse their catalog of clothing and accessories and create your “closet,” from which they select items to send to you. You keep the clothing to wear as long as you like, and you can also send back your box for a new selection of items as frequently as you like. If you love something enough to want to purchase it, you can simply hold onto it when you send the rest of that box back. Also, if you purchase your whole tote, you get one month free!

FYI – the items in my Le Tote boxes are selected for me based off of my preferences and style profile, so your boxes may look completely different!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Le Tote Subscription Box Review #1 - items 1

Lucky Brand Striped Thermal – Retail: $50, Le Tote Price: $38

This top is really soft and comfortable, and I love how long the sleeves are. The only thing I don’t love is that the length of the shirt itself is pretty short on me.

Le Tote Subscription Box Review #1 - items 2

Summer & Sage Madison Boatneck Tee – Retail: $42, Le Tote Price: $34

I really like this top. The material is really comfortable, and it’s just a nice, easy shirt to wear. And again, the sleeves are a great length (one of the most wonderful things about Fall is long sleeves, am I right?).

Le Tote Subscription Box Review #1 - items 3

Rd Style Tina Ruche Dress – Retail: $60, Le Tote Price: $46

I felt like a bombshell in this dress! I love everything about it, but I would love to try a size up. I can technically wear this one fine but I think one size larger would fit more properly, and probably be a little more comfortable.

Clement Deep Sea Blue Necklace – Retail: $34, Le Tote Price: $26

Clement Deep Sea Blue Earrings – Retail: $18, Le Tote Price: $14

This necklace and earring set is so much prettier in person than I thought it was online. The blue is a paler shade than I thought and it just works as a gorgeous pop of color. I don’t usually go for statement necklaces but this is so pretty and it’s not too crazy. I’m thinking I’m going to end up purchasing these when I send my box back.

Here’s a close-up look at the necklace and earrings.

The Verdict: I’m really enjoying my first Le Tote delivery. My favorite part is that I can keep the items as long as I like and wear them before deciding if I want to buy them or send them back. Evaluating the value is a little tricky because I think the value of renting clothes and accessories is pretty subjective and different for everyone. I can see this being a great service for someone who uses a “capsule wardrobe” or someone who doesn’t like to wear the same thing twice.

I’ve paid a lot of attention to Le Tote for over 6 months. I have to be honest and say that for $50 a month… for the quality for clothing you will get, I would suggest you carefully sort through Marshalls, Target, Walmart, or a Macy’s sale before joining this club. It’s a discount service that provides quality below that discount. As an investor type of person, I think it’s more worth your while to purchase 1-3 items per month that you ABSOLUTELY LOVE and that ACTUALLY fit you properly than to subscribe to a service that gives you mediocre quality, at a thrift store used quality, that you have to really work for to get value out of (return through mail?), than to just buy something you love and take ownership for.

MEH. This is not designer stuff. Not even Target quality. C’mon……

Um I’m pretty sure they don’t sell French Connection, Maison Scotch, etc. at Target, Wal-Mart or Marshalls. Obviously you haven’t tried Le Tote, but good luck combing through the racks at Wal-Mart!

I think the quality of clothes are good for the $50 for 4 boxes a month I get. The clothes come looking new and any issues I have customer service is great! I think it is well worth the $50 I pay a month. The returns in the mail are super quick! I’m not sure you can actually judge the service until you try it.

I had Le Tote for a few months at the beginning of this year; then I moved to Alaska and they don’t ship there. 🙁 I honestly loved most of my boxes. Some of what I noticed:

– they don’t do petites, so pants and longer skirts were a no go. I’m 5’4 and ordered a midi pencil skirt in my first box. I swear the hemline stopped at my ankle.
– Most things looked brand new except for a couple of shirts. One looked incredibly worn and the other was super wrinkled.
– I never noticed a dry cleaning smell.
– I also have that striped top and it’s one of my faves. 🙂

I have a couple of pieces that I purchased from there, including a boucle-esque sweatshirt that I looove. It sounds weird, but trust me, it looks so nice…well as nice as a sweatshirt can. I would still have this box if it wasn’t for the shipping situation (no this move was not something that I wanted…). It was fun just trying out some new stuff with no commitment to buy.

Nicole, that is such a bummer! Also I totally agree – I absolutely love that there is no pressure or commitment to buy anything. =]

I found I only need to try Le Tote for a little while. I bought a great blazer, some sleeveless tops, a necklace, and earring to match. This was a year ago and I haven’t seen much change in the inventory.

I wanted to love this subscription but my first box the clothes smelled very strongly like cleaner or fabric refresher and were very wore…. Kinda grossed me out. I love thrift shops so it’s not like I’m a princess.

I have been doing letote for almost a year now and unfortunately things hadn’t been going good…
I’m able to pick the clothes I want to be shipped to me now but I can’t pick the sizes which bother the heck out of me.
Lately all my clothes had been waaaay too tight and look hella worn. My sizing hasn’t changed so I don’t know what’s up. Also letote refuses to send me winter clothes bc I guess since I live in Texas it’s not “needed” but I like coats so come on.
Also I had to pay $3 for my last letote because letote didn’t put enough postage on it. Ugh

Marina, having to pay extra for shipping is rwally not good! Did you contact them about that? I feel like they should do something about that. Also, if/when you go in to chose what they send you, you can choose your size!! It took a little playing around with it for me to find but it’s definitely an option. Good news! =]

OMG….I love that you have pesonalized this review! You are Rockin’ That grey dress. I hate seeing clothing on Maniquines…and you are about my size, so this helps.

Haley

Thank you, Bonny! I’m thinking about buying that dress from them in a size up or having it sent again in a future tote. =]

I was ADDICTED to Le Tote for about 10 months! I got SO much use out of the subscription!! I got probably 3-4 boxes a month with how often I wore the clothes and the turnaround time. I really loved it. Sadly, my finances changed, and I couldn’t continue. But, those 10 months were great!

Do the clothes still smell strongly like febreeze/perfumed detergent? I had to cancel because I couldn’t stand the scent of their cleaner. They dry clean all their clothes and it comes out with that scent. Their clothes were cute and I got to choose each piece.

I also agree that their used prices are higher than online new prices.

Haley

Jenny, these clothes didn’t smell badly or weird at all, but I’ll be sure to pay attention to this in the future.

I went back and forth between RTR and Le Tote and decided on Le Tote. The RTR pieces are STUNNING but I wouldn’t get much everyday use out of them. Plus it is twice the price for less use in my opinion.

AM

The cost to purchase their USED clothes is ridiculously high compared to the retail value. We can do much better with new clothes at any department store during sales and coupons.

Haley, you look amazing! Congratulations on your baby boy!

Haley

AM, thank you! Also I’ll have to keep an eye out online in the future to see if I can find items any cheaper on other sites.

Tia

I’m really excited to see future reviews from this box. I’m currently on the wait list for RTR Unlimited and I heard it takes months to get off. With this box do you pick out the items they are going to send you or is it a surprise? I’m interested in more dressy clothes so I have a reason to dress up. Do you think LT offers clothes similar to RTRs closet? Maybe I’ll try this box out while I’m on the never ending wait list for RTR (rent the runway).

Haley

Tia, RTR definitely has more formal/red carpet-level items but Le Tote has a wide variety if formalities they offer, and you can pick what goes “in your closet” that they choose from and on top of that you do get to choose what they send. They’ll send an email when they’ve selected items for your box and you get 24 hours to change items or sizes to anything else they have available. Or you can ignore it for a surprise. I think you’d have enough control over making sure you get the pieces you’re looking for.

Julie

You get to customize your tote! When I signed up (and periodically when I see that they have new arrivals), I added a ton of clothes & accessories I liked to “my closet,” and when they are ready to send you a new tote (usually only 1 day after you send it back – they are super quick), they send you an email to “customize your tote.” They will have pre-selected 3 clothing items and 2 accessories, which almost always come from “my closet.” I will then check the “see more options” for each piece they selected to see what else is available. I usually try to customize based on weather & events I have going on for the next week or so. With their super fast shipping & turnaround time, I get 3-4 totes per month. In my opinion, $50 is an excellent value for that many totes and being able to customize. I ended up cancelling Rocksbox (jewelry rental) since I didn’t like that I couldn’t customize. Hope this helps!

First of all, you are rocking that dress!! Thanks for letting us see what this looks like on a real person instead of a mannequin.
