JerkySnob Subscription Box Review October 2015 - Flyer

Jerky Snob includes a sheet that details the month’s featured jerky.

JerkySnob Subscription Box Review October 2015 - AyobaYo

Ayoba-Yo Biltong (4 oz.)- $8.99

Biltong is a South African dried meat snack that’s spiced, marinated, and then dehydrated. Jerky Snob points out that if jerky is like a well done steak, biltong is a steak cooked medium well (with a little pink in the middle). The dehydration process helps preserves tenderness, so biltong is often softer and less chewy than jerky. I like the flavor of Ayoba-Yo’s biltong, and I appreciate that it’s made without any added preservatives.

JerkySnob Subscription Box Review October 2015 - Gentlemans

Southern Gent Honey Bourbon Beef Brisket Jerky by True Gentleman's Jerky (2.25 oz.)- $6.99

True Gentleman’s Jerky is made in San Diego with hand cut beef and an old family recipe. They specialize in jerky that’s made with savory herbs and spices, and I really like the fun flavors Jerky Snob selected to include in this box. The Southern Gent flavor is made with honey and has a nice sweetness. I was surprised, though, by the thickness of the jerky slices. They’re more like chunks!

The Sinsa Korean BBQ Jerky by The Gentleman's Jerky (2.25 oz.)- $6.99

The Sinsa is flavored with brown sugar, sesame, ginger, and chiles, and it’s named after a neighborhood in Seoul that’s filled with great BBQ spots. It’s cut into thinner strips than the Southern Gent, and they seem to be the perfect size for getting stuck in teeth. Not to worry, though. Every pack of Gentleman’s Jerky contains a small packet of floss. What a cute and thoughtful touch!

JerkySnob Subscription Box Review October 2015 - Clean

Peppered Jerky by Clean -n- Jerky (1 oz.)- $4.00

Clean –n- Jerky makes paleo-friendly jerky suitable for a clean diet free from processed foods. It’s available in both original and pepper flavors, and I’m glad that Jerky Snob decided to include the pepper flavor- I’m always up for a little spice!

Verdict: The jerky included in this shipment adds up to $27, which breaks even with the cost of the box ($27). I like that Jerky Snob seeks out small-batch jerky makers, and it’s great to know that they avoid products that are made with nitrates, nitrites, MSG, and corn syrup. I’m not sure that I’d be able to get through 8 oz. of jerky every month, but I think this subscription could be a good option for meat lovers who regularly snack on jerky and are looking to discover tasty new brands.

Are you a Jerky Snob? Have you tried any of the brands featured in this month’s box?

i love beef jerky but I haven’t had any in a while. This makes me want some! But I think $27 is too much for a snack subscription. I could probably eat 8 oz in 1-2 sittings

I think it’s funny that you say you don’t know if you can get through 8 ounces in a month. My husband goes through that much in a week! It’s his favorite night-time snack!

I would be interested in a jerky subscription if it was a good value (worth more than the sub price).

Me too. Although I think the price here isn’t bad if you like jerky once in a while. I might get my bf this sub for the holidays because he’s like that.

I first found out about TG’s Jerky through this box. The Sinsa is my favorite, and we’ve reordered more of it than I’d care to admit (lol!) since then. Highly recommend this box. Wish it was a bit less expensive, but everything from it is fantastic. And, it’s the perfect amount to get through in a month.
