Clean Bar Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - box

Clean Bar Box is a subscription box that delivers you handmade artisan soaps that are free from preservatives, animal products, petroleum derivatives, parabens, and sodium lauryl sulfate.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The BoxClean Bar Box

The Cost: $14.99 (monthly; four 2.5 ounce bars), $19.99 (monthly; two 5 ounce bars and two 2.5 ounce bars), $19.99 (every other month; two 5 ounce bars and two 2.5 ounce bars). Save with 6- and 12-month subscriptions.

Clean Bar Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - inside

This is a review of the large box, which you can purchase on a monthly or every other month basis. I love the eco-friendly packaging inside!

Ships to: US (free).

Note: Lots of other countries are available in the drop-down list in the sign-up window. I can’t tell how to calculate shipping for those countries, though. I’d suggest e-mailing them if you are interested and live outside the US.

COUPON: Use code FIRSTBOX to save $3 off your first box.

Clean Bar Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - infosheet

Each box includes an information sheet with the month’s theme and descriptions of the included scents. I was happy to see in this month’s sheet that Clean Bar Box will soon be offering soap dishes. I love the large bars, but it is difficult to find a soap dish that will work with them because of the unusual shape. Hopefully that won’t be a problem any longer.

Café Mocha Soap – Value $7.50

I’m not a coffee drinker because of the smell, but the coffee smell is subtle enough here (and mixed with other scents including, of course, chocolate!) that this soap totally works for me. And this has coffee grounds in it, too – great for exfoliation.

Pumpkin Spice Soap – Value $7.50

This smells so much like pumpkin pie it makes me go want to bake one. But, um, I’ve already made at least two pumpkin pies this fall so I’d better hold off. Definitely a perfect seasonal scent, though.

Note: Most of this month’s bars are not yet available in the Clean Bar Box shop, so I’ve just used prices from other full-size bars and linked to the main shop. You should see them there soon if you are interested in ordering.

Clean Bar Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - small

Gold Moss Scrub Soap – Value $3.75

Orange Cinnamon Soap – Value $3.75

I didn’t see any 2.5 ounce bars in the Clean Bar Box shop, so I just divided the price of the 5 ounce bars in half to get a value.

Clean Bar Box usually includes a scrub. This month, the gold moss scrub has sea salt in it, which is a different strategy from the oats I usually see. I like the oats but am happy to try a new type of scrub as well. The gold moss scrub is more of a masculine scent, which is nice (a lot of Clean Bar Box scents are rather feminine). And the orange cinnamon soap has a more subtle fragrance.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $22.50 for the October Clean Bar Box. This is a subscription where you always know what to expect in terms of value. I think they do a really good job at choosing seasonal scents and I also like the soap; this subscription has got me using a lot more bar soap than I used to! Prices are similar for handmade soaps on Etsy on a per-ounce basis, too.

I also like that you can get smaller soaps in the small box or choose every other month delivery. Either would be a good option for a smaller household that doesn’t use quite as much soap.

What did you think of the Clean Bar Box? Do you get any soap subscriptions?

  1. Liz & Ragan,

Fyi- there is another promo “clean15” which saves 15% on any subscription length. I purchased 1 year every other month & this code brought my payment down to a little over $90; I believe it worked out to 15.50 every other month. Also, worth notiing, if you by a 3,6,12 month subscription ect, if you decide to cancel, they will refund you for the months you have yet to receivedreceive!

    • It seems like a really awesome company, I’m excited to receive my 1st box 🙂

  2. Great fall scents! What does Clean Bar mean by sourced in the USA especially in regards to Shea butter?

  3. Great review as always Ragan, glad you liked the soaps! 🙂

  4. I recently started this subscription for the monthly sampler box. This month was my second box, and so far I’m really enjoying it. I look forward to my yummy smelling showers each day now.

My favorite two scents from this box were the Gold Moss bar and the Cafe Mocha bar. The Mocha one made my whole bathroom smell like chocolate, which in my book is not a bad thing at all!

    • I am all about the pumpkin spice, myself. But am trying to avoid using it because it makes me hungry. My fiance is out of town this weekend and I have to do the grocery shopping alone and I will NOT buy any pumpkin pie ingredients.
