Cat Lady Box is a monthly subscription box for cat ladies (or anyone who is crazy about cats)! The Cat Lady Box has 2-3 cat-themed items – wearables, items for the home, books, etc. The Crazy Cat Lady Box contains everything from the Cat Lady Box plus a few items just for cats.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Cat Lady Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - card1

Cat Lady Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - card2

Included was an information card with a list of products in the box on one side and a nice print on the other side.

Cat Lady Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - letter

There was also a letter with more information on the box and the items in it.

Cat Lady Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - coasters

Cat Head Drink Coasters by Feltplanet (set of 3) – Value $12.60

I love these (of course). My fiancé can have his terra cotta coasters back and I will use these from now on! These are handmade from thick merino wool.

Cat Lady Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - decals

Cat Wall Decals by Looksugar – Value $12

This is my first experience with wall decals. I have not tried to remove them yet, so I can’t speak to the removability aspect (but they’re *supposed* to be removable…). They would also be great for Halloween decorations. I am thinking about adding some Emergency Googly Eyes.

Cat Lady Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - walldecals

My fiancé didn’t want these in the main part of the house (!) so I put them downstairs in my yoga/exercise room next to my mala rack. I did not use a ruler to line them up (I know they’re not evenly spaced).

Cat Lady Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - mug

Cat Lady Box Exclusive Mug – Value $17.99

This price from the information card seemed a little high to me but then I started looking at custom mugs on Zazzle and it’s really not so far out of the price range for similar items. I drink a lot of tea and Crio-Bru so this will definitely get used.

Cat Lady Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - magnettoy

Cat Lady Box Car Magnet – Value $5 (?)

Imperial Catnip Critters – Value $3.50

The magnet isn’t listed on the information card, but in the letter they mention that magnets were sent out last month that started falling apart in the rain. So they included this one as a replacement. I’m guessing at the value.

I got a little catnip penguin (multiple animals were possible, I believe). These are hand-knit in Peru and stuffed with catnip in the USA. I wanted to take a picture of my cats playing with it, but one of them carried it off while I wasn’t looking and I didn’t find it for two days…

Cat Lady Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - car

And yes, I totally put the magnet on my car.

Cat Lady Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - toy

Furc by TheRetroKats – Value $8

This toy has two ends (a cork and a feathery part with a bell) connected by a stretchy string.

Cat Lady Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - toy2

My cats being how they are, they didn’t pay a lot of attention to the feathery part (maybe a little)…

Cat Lady Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - cork1

Cat Lady Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - cork2

But they were totally into the cork.

One last gratuitous cat picture before we go:

Cat Lady Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - catsinbox

Of course they wouldn’t sit in the box and pose for photos while I had the camera out. But they were definitely interested in the box! (Since you all know Nyx by now, let me introduce you to my cats, as well. Sneaky is the calico, Mr. Kitty is the orange tabby, Madison is the longhaired black cat, and Monkey is the tan and white longhaired cat.)

Verdict: I calculated a value of approximately $59 for the October 2015 (Crazy) Cat Lady Box. That’s quite a bit higher than the cost of the box, which is especially nice considering the number of handmade and exclusive items. This was just a fun box for me, in general.

So I subscribe to this box and love it, but this box isn’t the October box it’s the box I got for September. I just received my October box yesterday and it had a Halloween theme and completely different items. Might want to fix that.

Ragan

Ah, I got this just a few days before the review was posted so I didn’t know. Thanks for the clarification.

Dorian @ CatLadyBox

Yes, that’s true! This is the September stuff. 🙂 October is arriving in homes now!

This sounds like a great box! If I weren’t in sub box overload, I think I would get it. In the future, maybe! 🙂

Also, your cats are beautiful! I love the picture of all of them staring at the cork. I have three cats, so I understand. haha 🙂

Great review and now I have another box on my wish list! ACK! MSA, you are such an enable! I’m mom to a fur herd of 7 cats so I’m full blown crazy cat lady. LOL

Great review! I really like this box too.

Does having 2 cats make one a cat lady? Maybe I need more to qualify.

Reply ButtonReply

Dorian @ CatLadyBox

I’ve heard that “three” is the line, but I think even just liking kitties qualifies someone! 🙂 It’s a great thing to be!

Hi Ragan! I’m a certified cat lady too, but I’m not sure the price tag justifies it for this box. If you want cool “cat lady” mugs, they’re only $8.99 at currentcatalog.com, and they are larger and prettier than the one these people sent you (see http://www.currentcatalog.com/product/cat-pet-hair-mug-4026110.do?sortby=bestSellers&from=Search). One more thing – think carefully about marrying a person who is not as crazy about cats as you are. The warning flags are always there. Good luck and MEOW!

I like the cat mugs! I just dont like the shipping of $8.99 – Looking for a good coupon now 🙂 – Thank you so much for the link! 🙂 =v= I want a set of 2

Oh, he likes my actual cats just fine. Sometimes he pays their vet bills. (Although he draws the line at pilling them, he will help me catch them to give them pills.) Even puts up with it when Sneaky ruined the carpet about two weeks after we moved in. He just doesn’t want kitty decor.

Even considering a lower price for the mug, this is still maybe $10 over cost (better for longer-term subscriptions). Plus a lot of the items are from Etsy and/or other small producers and you’d have to pay shipping or meet a minimum order if you bought them individually.

When I started reading your comment – I thought you were talking about your dog (obviously I didn’t read the previous comment that you were replying to).
I was just trying to imagine the dog running around helping you catch the cats! Lol… I think I need some sleep, too many long days at work right now

Sylvia

I love cat-themed anything. I haven’t tried this box yet, but it is definitely up my alley! I just subscribed to the Kitty Kitty box and haven’t received the first one yet, but if that one is a no-go for me for some reason, or I just decide my cats and I deserve another box to play in, this one will be high on the list.

I also would have totally put that magnet on my car. 😀

Dorian @ CatLadyBox

Hi Sylvia!

I hope you’ll get to try us out! You can never have enough cat stuff, right? 😉 And I’m sure the cats will always argue for another box on your floor!

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

I just counted up the number of times I wrote “totally” in this review. Eek, it was a lot.

I didn’t used to be into cat-themed stuff but I think the level of craziness increased with the number of cats.

Sylvia

Careful! You can spread the crazy! I spread it to my elderly mother, and now she’s very active with a local cat rescue and a feline foster mom. She is especially good with the young feral cats and bottle-fed baby cats. While “there’s always room for one more”, I probably shouldn’t get her another cat at this point, so this box would actually make a pretty good gift for her. I think she’d enjoy everything in it because cats! 🙂

I also use ‘totally’ quite a bit. It’s probably another one of those “California things”. 😉

nana

I love this box. Not enough to get it because I’m not really a cat lady (though I suspect I may become one after the kids grow up), but I hope other people will so I can swap with them.

I think I actually just posted a comment that only said comment before this somehow. Argh!

Anyway, hi nana! You can always plan ahead and start getting it now… Imagine the amazing cat lady collection of things you’ll have by the time it finally happens! 😉

Caroline

LOL I think that is the nicest summary card I really Like the print.

Dorian @ CatLadyBox

Aw, thank you! We feature a different “cat lady artist” each month, and so far everyone seems to really like it! I’m glad that you do too! (They are great to collect!)

Ragan

My black cat totally rubs my legs like that, too. (Especially when I am trying to paint my toenails. Grrr…)

Reply ButtonReply

Tamara

It’s familial cat behavior. The sides of their cheeks and the sides of their rump area are Happy Spots. Scritches (etc) there release a scent, marking the item that has been rubbed against as the cat’s property. It’s also important in building Group Smell, which helps identify you as part of their family. 🙂

Dorian @ CatLadyBox

Or right after you get out of the shower when you’re just damp enough for cat hair to stick… 😉

Ragan

Thanks for your comments, everyone. I had a lot of fun with this box!

Dorian @ CatLadyBox

Thank YOU for the pawsome review, Ragan! I really appreciate it, and I’m so happy that you loved it and had fun!

Benita

I signed up for a three-month of this to try it out and this was my first box. I really enjoyed it. I especially love the mug and coasters, which are very well made (one of my cats even used one as a toy for a day before I found it and it’s fine). But I’m not sure I’ll continue after my three months just because I’m not sure I want my house covered in cat lady decor! But I think it’s a fun subscription to get every so often, I wish I had the option to skip months or do every other month. I don’t need cat treat boxes since one of my cats is on a prescription diet so I love this concept for a sort-of pet box.

Reply ButtonReply

Dorian @ CatLadyBox

Hi Benita! You CAN skip if you want! 🙂 Since you signed up for the 3-month plan, it’s a little bit different, but I will email you to explain better! I’m so happy to hear that you and your kitties are enjoying it! ~Dorian
