Also in the box was a two-sided card with information about each of this month’s featured items.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review August 2015 - Chips

Black Truffle Potato Chips by Torres (4.4 oz.)- $5.99

I love truffle fries and truffle popcorn, but I think this is my first time trying truffled potato chips. They’re incredible. The chips themselves are delicious, crisp, and salty, and the dried black Spanish truffles add a strong, heady flavor that’s intoxicating. I never thought I’d spend six dollars on potato chips, but I’m seriously considering buying another bag (or 10)!

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review August 2015 - Rice

Spanish Bomba Paella Rice (17.5 oz.)- $8.95

According to Yummy Bazaar, Bomba rice doubles in size when it’s cooked (while still remaining al dente), which means it’s able to absorb lots of flavor. It’s perfect for paella because it won’t get sticky or creamy like Italian and Asian rice.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review August 2015 - OliveOil

Cold Extraction Extra Virgin Olive Oil by Valdezarza (17 oz.)- $11.95

I love receiving olive oil in subscription boxes. It’s something I use almost every day but something that I rarely splurge on. Drizzling high-end olive oil on salad and bread is such a delicious luxury! This particular oil is cold-pressed, which helps preserve the flavor of the olives. It’s made by a family-owned company based in Toledo.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review August 2015 - Tuna

Yellowfin Tuna in Olive Oil by La Pescadora (4.37 oz.)- $7.95

This premium tuna comes from the Bay of Biscay in northern Spain. When it comes to preserved tuna, I’m not sure I’ve ever ventured beyond Starkist and Chicken of the Sea, so trying this was a real treat. The flavor was excellent!

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review August 2015 - PaellaSeasoning

Paellero Paella Seasoning with Real Saffron by Carmencita (5 seasoning packets)- $8.95

Paellero Paella Seasoning is made with a traditional blend of spices. It contains saffron, garlic, salt, paprika, pepper, and clove.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review August 2015 - Quince

Membrillo Quince Paste by San Lorenzo (12.33 oz.)- $6.99

Yummy Bazaar suggests serving this paste as a light, flavorful dessert. I think quince paste is a lovely addition to a cheese board, though, so I think I’m going to save it to serve alongside some Manchego the next time I have guests over.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review August 2015 - Tortas

Sweet Orange Olive Oil Tortas by Ines Rosales (6 pieces)- $5.99

I’ve tried Ines Rosales’ Tortas before, and I’m a big fan. The crunchy, sweet crisp breads make a great snack and a quick dessert.

Simple Authentic Paella Dinner

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review August 2015 - PaellaRecipe1

Yummy Bazaar included a recipe for Simple Authentic Paella. I couldn’t wait to try out the bomba rice and paella seasoning, so I decided to give it a try!

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review August 2015 - PaellaRecipe2

This was my first time making paella (and I don’t have a paella pan), so I did a little research to figure out what type of equipment to use. I settled on a large, nonstick wok. I also decided to mix up the recipe a bit to reflect the ingredients I had on hand in my kitchen. I added peas, garlic, and onion instead of red pepper and garlic and shrimp and calamari instead of shrimp, mussels, and clams.

I followed the instructions as written, but I decided to give the calamari a quick sautee before allowing it to steam over the paella.

Yummy Bazaar Destination Food Club Subscription Box Review August 2015 - PaellaPlated

My first attempt at making paella was a pretty good success! The bomba rice was perfectly al dente and full of flavor, and I really enjoyed the spices in the Paellero mix. I think I’ll be making paella again soon! (And perhaps even investing in a paella pan.)

Verdict: I’m truly blown away by this box from Yummy Bazaar's Destination Food Club. The products included are delicious and curated perfectly, and I think the balance between sweet and savory items is spot on. The value is incredible, too! The cost of the items in the box totals almost $57, which is remarkable considering the $35.95 cost of the box. It’s rare to see this kind of value in food boxes, so I’m extremely impressed!

Have you tried any of the products featured in this month’s Spanish box from Yummy Bazaar's Destination Food Club?

I’m actually considering this one! Most food boxes have item prices that look overinflated and even then don’t give you back the amount you spent on the box. This seems like a good value and I’m excited to see where it goes from there.

I was looking on their website and couldn’t figure out the destinations–like which destination is next month or is it on a set cycle (e.g. first you get Spain, then you get Germany, etc.)?

Deborah

Looking at Facebook, they are promoting ‘Get your September gourmet from Spain now!’, so I’d guess it is a set country per month and that the box reviewed here is actually for September. I’m definitely considering trying this one out – I’m a sucker for anything that gives me new cooking options!

Hi Glenda, we announce new country at the beginning of every month. It’s not a set cycle. If one misses our September Spain box (order by 9/15), s/he will get our next October box. In case you have other questions, our toll free number is 844.YummyBazaar (844.986.6922) 🙂

A colleague of mine got me addicted to the orange olive oil tortas – so good!

Just wanted to add how much I enjoy your reviews, Lindsey – you make me want to learn how to cook!

It’s definitely one of the very best tortas, Laurie! Handmade & all natural, can’t beat that! P.S. Have you tried Ines Rosales’s new sea salt flavor? It’s A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. too 🙂

I would love to see a review of the smaller box too. Since I live alone, I have to be smart making my food box choices or I end up wasting the food which makes me cranky. How long have they been in business? It isn’t a deal breaker for me, I’ve purchased new subs before, just curious.
