Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy – Retail Value $17.99 (On Amazon for $10.29)

Book Summary from Amazon:

For fans of John Green and Rainbow Rowell comes this powerful novel with the most fearless heroine—self-proclaimed fat girl Willowdean Dickson—from Julie Murphy, the acclaimed author ofSide Effects May Vary. With starry Texas nights, red candy suckers, Dolly Parton songs, and a wildly unforgettable heroine—Dumplin’ is guaranteed to steal your heart.

Dubbed “Dumplin’” by her former beauty queen mom, Willowdean has always been at home in her own skin. Her thoughts on having the ultimate bikini body? Put a bikini on your body. With her all-American-beauty best friend, Ellen, by her side, things have always worked . . .  until Will takes a job at Harpy’s, the local fast-food joint. There she meets Private School Bo, a hot former jock. Will isn’t surprised to find herself attracted to Bo. But she is surprised when he seems to like her back.

Instead of finding new heights of self-assurance in her relationship with Bo, Will starts to doubt herself. So she sets out to take back her confidence by doing the most horrifying thing she can imagine: entering the Miss Teen Blue Bonnet Pageant—along with several other unlikely candidates—to show the world that she deserves to be up there as much as any twiggy girl does. Along the way, she’ll shock the hell out of Clover City—and maybe herself most of all.

Love the cover! And I’ve seen this book getting a lot of positive buzz and reviews. I’m happy with this selection!

This box also included a Dumplin’ sticker and a letter from the author!

Whoviandrea Divergent Inspired Tote – Value $17.50

I may be the only YA-obsessed reader who hasn’t read the Divergent series yet. I’ve heard that once you start them they fly, so I may try to knock out the series this weekend!

Pocket POP! Keychain in Daenerys Targaryen – Value $6

Yes to the Mother of Dragons! I think this is very appropriate for the Leading Ladies theme! And fun fact from my POP-collecting husband: the keychain part screws out, in case you want to display it.

And this illustrated picture of Hermione and Crookshanks is a coupon for 10% any length MeowBox subscription! (More companies should make their coupons cute enough to keep around!)

I took advantage of this coupon – look for MeowBox reviews from Ragan starting next month. (And I’m happy to share that MeowBox accepts PayPal!)

Megan Lara Photo Print – Value $5

More Hermione! And this bookmark is from Whoviandrea. On the flipside is a coupon code for $5 off any order. (Expires 12/31/15).

Crystal Compass Arrow Necklace – Value $8.50

I didn’t think we’d get a Leading Ladies box without a Katniss-inspired item, and I was right! Here is a picture with more detail:

Verdict: OwlCrate is one of my favorite subscriptions. I think their curation is great, the themes are fun, and they do a great job at finding enough extras to make the cost worth it (vs just buying the book via Amazon).  Using the Amazon discount pricing on the book, the value of this box still comes to $47 – I think that’s great for a $37 book box! ($30 plus $7 shipping to the US).

What do you think of the Leading Ladies OwlCrate box?
