Note from Liz: On reviews of Lip Monthly in the past, several readers had commented that they had double-billing issues with Lip Monthly. I've reached out to Lip Monthly to let them know about the issues and our concern, but please keep the issues in mind if you are considering subscribing.

Lip Monthly Subscription Box Review + Coupon September 2015 - info

Every Lip Monthly box comes with an informational card detailing the items included.

Lip Monthly Subscription Box Review + Coupon September 2015 - items 1

Be a Bombshell Lip Crayon in Shamless – Full Size!, value: $16

Jing Ai Velvet Shine Lip Jewel in Pink Star – .1 oz (Full Size!), value: $22

I’m familiar with Be a Bombshell but not Jing Ai. Both lip crayons have very similar texture, though. The Jing Ai lip crayon has a really pretty, opaque formula, whereas the Be a Bombshell crayon is a little more sheer.

Lip Monthly Subscription Box Review + Coupon September 2015 - items 2

Even though the colors look quite different in the tubes, when swatched they’re really pretty similar. The Be a Bombshell crayon (top) is a touch deeper and swatched more sheer. It took an extra layer for good color payoff – which can be nice to be able to control your opacity.

Lip Monthly Subscription Box Review + Coupon September 2015 - items 3

Noyah Lip Gloss in Summertime Peach – 1.7 ml (the full size is 5.6 ml), value: $4.85

I’m a little surprised to see a sample product included as one of the main items. Lip Monthly has pretty much always sent full-sized products. However, it is a pretty gloss and I’m sure I’ll use it. (I calculated my value from the weights of the sample vs full size product and value, so I went with that over the $6 value listed on the info card.)

Jelly Pong Pong Bare Necessities Highlighting Pencil – 1.5g/.05 oz (Full Size!), value: $17.95

Unfortunately, this highlighting pencil is a miss for me. I’m way too pale for this to highlight anything – it shows up peach on my skin. (Good to know for swaps – this comes completely sealed in plastic.)

The Noyah Gloss (top) is really a pretty color: peachy with some gold shimmer. It’s a shade that tends to look good on just about anyone.

As you can see, the highlighter crayon is too dark for me! Oh well.

The Verdict: This was an okay Lip Monthly bag. A lot of that is due to my own preferences, but I’m kind of bummed that the two lip crayons are so similar in color and that the highlighter isn’t usable for me. However the value comes out to $60.80, which is a good value overall.

DO NOT SUBSCRIBE! The only reason why I purchased a gift subscription for my sister is because this was one of the few companies that SUPPOSEDLY ships to APOs. She only received ONE of the boxes after I had to send multiple emails back and forth to customer service. Gift subscriptions are not supposed to be automatically renewed. I was then billed $51.80 that I did not authorize. Customer service is horrible. I’m worried that this company has my CC information.

Dispute it with your bank and get your money back. Make sure you have cancelled your account with Lip Monthly as well. They are awful and need to be put out of business.

Apparently I signed up with 3 different accounts (I never did) and they keep charging me every month for bags I never get. I was refunded one time but they kept charging me. Going forward, they just charged me again today after I asked them to make sure I was cancelled out of their system. Once I get out of this, I’ll never come back and i dont recommend anyone subscribing to this bs scam.

Wow. Thanks for all of the comments, everyone. I’ve been tempted to try this one, especially since the first month is half off but I don’t need the headache of dealing with their customer service, dealing with the bank, etc. I will definitely pass.

WARNING! DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO LIP MONTHLY!!

I was a subscriber for a few months, and cancelled in October 2014. I removed my email from their list as well. Two days ago, I received an email that they had shipped my November 2015 bag! They should not have any information about me whatsoever, and yet I have a package from them. My husband is responsible for our finances but is out of state right now, and I’m extremely concerned they have billed me.

They should not have ANY information about me, but I’ve been mysteriously re-subscribed.

I contacted them and was told I’m not in their database and won’t be billed or receive a package; it was just a mistake. But I have a package, so I’ve likely been billed.

I am going to file a complaint with the FTC because Lip Monthly unlawfully held onto my information after I requested removal. When I discover billing, I will add a BBB complaint and credit card reversal.

this is a horrible company. half of the products they send are junk most of which can be found at the dollar store or online for extremely cheap, not the “retail” value they claim. they’ve sent expired products, double charged and refuse to make it right with anyone! ive made orders in their shop and never received them, also I was charge 2 times after cancelling and never received the bag, I only was refunded after disputing with my bank. do not subscribe!

As I posted earlier, Lip Monthly is a shady company. I received 2 bags before they stopped charging me due to what they said was a “problem” with my card. That was over a year ago and now I was hit with an $88 charge from them…after I cancelled my account. They refused to refund me but offered to send the bags I missed. What company back charges a customer for products they missed? They said it was against policy to issue a refund. I had to dispute it with my bank. Stay away from Lip Monthly.

I had this sub for a little over 6 months and quit after July largely due to needing to weed out some subs…and really haven’t missed them. Sure I got one or two things i liked but didn’t love…usually the coloring was wrong…the makeup was cheap (not a big deal if it works and the color is good) and I don’t like sticky glosses that I got a few of. The rush from opening the package was less and less each month. My cancellation ….no regrets. For me they were easy to cancel no double billing issues etc…

This is why I will be keeping only the Sephora subscription. Guaranteed brands that I know I’d spend money on. I’m so tired of all these subs sending out the same over-priced brands.

From what i’ve read and a bit of research its my understanding that a lot of their products are made in China. Unfortunately they’re full of really not good things for you.. especially your face.. i don’t understand how its even allowed :/

Actually, their products are the same brands that come in all the other sub boxes: Ofra, Be a Bombshell, Jelly Pong Pong, etc. So if they’re a dangerous company, they all are. The double billing problems are serious, though, and should be investigated by those who have had that happen.

You’re right, if you look at the ingredients in most make up they’re all very toxic and yes they’re in all the other sub boxes as well. This one just seems to have a lot of cheap products all in one box.

Araceli

This is my second LipMonthly bag and I love it! My skin complexion is medium so the products that I received in both bags are perfect for me. I will continue with my subscription, for now, if the items continue to be this awesome! Lol!?☺️

I’m very pale. I used the highigher in the inner corners of my eyes….it is beautiful.

The highlighting pencil could be used as an eye shadow.

I really wish there was a lip product subscription that wasn’t just a bunch of crap with shady customer service and billing. I would even splurge on one that cost more that had a mix of interesting mid to high end brands and maybe indies too.

Celicia Gantz

I’m with you on that Allison. All the billing issues scare me to sub to this one. A sub box for lip products that promise one high end and a mix of drug store and mid tier would be great!!

Omg, I fully agree it took me forever to get away from this company. I want to say they also told me if I cancelled my account AFTER they billed me I wouldn’t get my product or something like that. This is another reason why I won’t ever do business with Fab.com again. After they charged my monthly fee and I wanted to cancel, they said “well if you cancel you won’t get to use your $40 credit” wah?! I don’t want the credit, I want a refund… Not to mention it once took me 4 hours to get online with an operator. The products they give you are a bit better than dollar tree level and most of it I ended up giving away or selling off in a lot. I don’t think I kept even 1 item from the 3 or 4 months of bags I got. Don’t do this subscription if you don’t want to deal with your carded being without proper notice, they literally had it NO where on the page when I signed up (was a while ago) about the charge dates. The only reason I didn’t shut down my card is because it was too much of a hassle.

Ooops I meant JustFab.com (the purses and shoes site) not fab.com. Don’t get lured in by their BOGO deals or sales, it automatically signs you up for their membership deal which is $40 a month unless you remember to cancel it.

Brittnaylea

That’s the same Jing Ai lip crayon they sent in boxycharm a little while ago. I would love an all lip monthly sub, but this one doesn’t do it for me. Looking at all the reviews I wouldn’t have been thrilled with any of them.

Jackie

I love lippies, but this subscription looks cheap and just not quality make up.

Tina

I think the products seem kinda boring… I tried this subscription for about 3 months and they ended up billing me way too much in advance.
