Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Subscription Review August 2015 - box

The Vegan Cuts Beauty Box is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. All of their products are vegan (and they tend to be natural, too). They also typically include a nice mix of full size and sample beauty items.

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Subscription Review August 2015 - items

Vegan Cuts sends a single package to subscribers who get both the beauty and snack boxes. The beauty items are separated into a little bag. (If you do not get the snack box, I don’t think you get the little bag.)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Subscription Box: Vegan Cuts Beauty Box

The Cost: $19.95

The Products: Each box contains a mix of 4-7 full and sample size cruelty-free beauty must-haves, ranging from unique cosmetics to luxurious skincare. All items are void of icky, toxic ingredients and animal byproducts, so you can feel beautiful inside and out.

Ships to: US for free, Canada for $8, and worldwide for $15.

Each Vegan Cuts Beauty Box comes with an information card detailing the items for that month.

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Subscription Review August 2015 - glamnatural

GlamNatural Hydrating Face Cream (5 g) – Value $7 (?)

The value on this one is a guess since I can’t find the amount of product in a full size container on the GlamNatural website. I like that Vegan Cuts has been sending out items that will work for people with sensitive skin lately. This is free of a lot of things like parabens and sulfates and when I tried it on the back of my hand, it absorbed quickly.

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Subscription Review August 2015 - hello

“Hello” by Harvey Prince (10 mL) – Value $11

I am not really a fan of Harvey Prince fragrances (which is one reason I’m avoiding the Birchbox curated box for September…). However, this is a nice, large size, which is great to see in a subscription box if you’re tired of tiny fragrance samples.

Regarding the value, the 10mL size is not available on the Harvey Prince site. The 50 mL container is $55 so I divided by 5. They also have some 8.8 mL containers that retail for slightly more than $20, which is probably where Vegan Cuts got the price printed on the information card. It’s just one of those cases where it’s not easy to choose which price to list. (And by the way, this is a spray, not a rollerball.)

Gleam by Melanie Mills Lip Gloss in “Pop My Cork” (full size!) – Value $24

This gloss has a lot of pigment (swatch later on). It’s pretty thick and a bit sticky going on, but it loses the stickiness after you’ve had it on for a bit, and it lasts a long time without needing to be reapplied.

Kaeng Rang Detoxfoliant Body Scrub (1 oz) – Value $2.80

I couldn’t get this to lie still with the label up so forgive my hand being in the picture. This scrub is made from a couple of different kinds of salt and it’s pretty good at exfoliation, although it does leave a lot of oil on your skin when you rinse it off. Here is another photo of what it looks like inside the container.

One Love Organics Healthy Locks Dry Shampoo Powder (0.6 oz; full size!) – Value $12

Now, I love the One Love Organics brand after the pineapple scrub in the MSA + Kloverbox Beach House Box. But, if you visit the MSA forums, you’ll know I’m not really a dry shampoo user. However, I gave this a go in the interest of writing a complete review. I was very happy to see that it did not leave white flakes on my scalp (I dye my hair black so that would really show). I think it did a good job of absorbing oil, as well.

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Subscription Review August 2015 - swatch

Here’s a swatch of the lip gloss.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $57 for this month’s Vegan Cuts Beauty Box. That’s taking the low value for the fragrance and a guess about the size/value ratio for the face cream. That’s excellent for this box and almost twice as much as last month. I also appreciate that the values of the items are better distributed, so if one thing doesn’t work for you, you are still getting a good deal.

What do you think of the August 2015 Vegan Cuts Beauty Box?

I didn’t renew and missed out on Lavender Vanilla body scrub. I love body scrubs!

This has been the best box I think I’ve received! I hate getting a shampoo and conditioner sample separately which has been the case the last few boxes for me. I love the gloss, you’re right it’s sticky but at least the colour lasts. I’m kind of growing tired of the dry shampoo as I’ve got curly hair and I can’t brush it through properly but I do like one love organics. The face cream is super moisturizing, the scrub smells lovely (though I’m also getting bored of scrubs, I prefer masks!) but it seems like it will be a nice scrub. The perfume isn’t a scene i’d choose but I’m sold on the naturalness of it!
All in all this was a great value this month, I’m super happy with it. I was going to cancel.. I might wait 😉 lol

I like getting scrubs because I use them every day. I probably go through one of the regular-sized Ulta body scrubs at least weekly. So I actually have to regularly buy them because the sub boxes can’t keep up.

Dry shampoo has been everywhere this summer. I get at least a couple of them a month.

Sam

How do you open the dry shampoo container? Haven’t been able to open mine.

Very carefully. If you circle the top around, you should find indentations around a flap you have to poke down. You have to hit the flap with something kind of hard (we used a plain (non-sharp) kitchen knife.

But be careful because once I tried to open a similar container of sea salt and totally poked a hole in the side of it and ended up getting salt all over the counter…
