Urthbox included a card with information about how to earn member points. This box also contained coupons for Salted, Paleo Life Bars, and the Urthbox Office Box.
LAIKI Red Rice Crackers (.74 oz.)- $1.25
I sampled LAIKI Black Rice Crackers in a previous Urthbox, and I really enjoyed them. (I thought, oddly, that they tasted a little like Bugles.) These taste pretty similar to me but have a noticeable “ricey” aftertaste. I like them.
Nourish Snacks Chili'n in the Corn'r (1.2 oz.)- $2
Nourish Snacks is another brand that’s been featured previously in my Urthboxes. These roasted corn bites are seasoned with citrus and chili, and they’re pretty spicy!
RuckPack Combat Nutrition (90 ml)- $2.96
I’m usually disappointed to receive energy drinks or shots in subscription boxes because they’re one of the few foods I try to avoid. I realize they’re popular, though, so I certainly can’t blame anyone for sending them. That being said, I’m really excited to see this particular one in my box because I remember seeing the product pitched (and funded) on ABC's Shark Tank! U.S. Special Operations Marines developed the vitamin & energy shot, and (in case you’re interested in trying one) it looks like they’re sold at Walgreens.
Matt's Munchies Banana Coconut (1 oz.)- $2.25
This fruit snack is kind of like a cross between a fruit leather and a fruit roll up. The flavor is excellent with a good balance of coconut and banana. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for this product in my local organic grocery store- I’ll happily buy more!
Smarty Pants Adult Vitamins (2 packets, each with 2 gummies)- value $.50
I’ve sampled Smarty Pants vitamins before thanks to subscription boxes, and I think they make some of the tastiest “candy” vitamins out there. My only complaint is that a serving of gummies is 6 and each of these sample packs contains only 2. (For value purposes, note that the packets I’ve linked to contain 6 gummies.) I’d be okay if these were added as a bonus item, but I don’t like when “sample” packets are considered a main component of the box.
Paleo Life Bar CocoaNut (2.46 oz.)- $3.69
This paleo-friendly bar is made with seeds, nuts, cacao nibs, coconut, and nut butters. It’s extremely dense, and I’m not a fan of the texture or flavor. Also, this bar contains 25 g. of fat and 8 g. of saturated fat (39% and 42% of the recommended daily intake, respectively). I realize that paleo diets are often high in fat, so I won’t hold it against this bar, but that’s too high for me.
Verdict: This month’s Urthbox didn’t blow me away, but I still discovered some new tasty snacks. The value for this box comes in at almost $13, which is great if you’re an annual subscriber. (For the mini box I received, the cost per month is either $19, with a month-to-month subscription, or $9, with an annual subscription.)
Still, I think it’s important to point out that I’ve seen drastic swings in value between boxes (anywhere from $6 to almost $15). A number of subscribers have also reported problems with Urthbox customer service (double billing, unresponsiveness, trouble cancelling, etc.). While I haven’t had any problems with them personally, the reports give me pause. Considering the value discrepancy between boxes and the red flags with their customer service, I don’t feel comfortable recommending Urthbox at this time.
