Orange Glad Subscription Box Review – July 2015 - IceCream

Ice Cream Cone Shortbread Cookie (1.25 oz.)- $1.32

I’m very impressed with this shortbread cookie. It’s crisp, crumbly, and the flavor is rich and buttery. The ice cream shape is fun for summer, and I like that the cookie is packaged with a bow. It would make a lovely gift (if you could resist eating it yourself)!

Orange Glad Subscription Box Review – July 2015 - Blondie

Bananas Foster with Dar Rum Caramel Popcorn by The Art of Caramel (4 oz)- $6.00

This popcorn is packed with flavor, and I like that I can pick out hints of banana and rum. The Art of Caramel makes their caramel popcorn in a variety of different flavors. Many of them sound tasty, but I think Kentucky Bourbon Black Pepper sounds especially intriguing!

Greyston Bakery Brown Sugar Blondie (2.25 oz.)- $3.50

I like the flavor of this blondie, but I was a little disturbed to find that my first bite was wet and gooey. I dug into my Orange Glad box as soon as it arrived (on a very hot day), and I think the outside temperature may have cooked or melted my poor brownie en route to me. I put it in the fridge for a little while, and it was much better. Lesson learned. In the summer months, I’ll make sure to give my delivered goodies time to cool off before I dig in!

I also think it’s worth mentioning that Greyston is about more than just brownies. They have an open-hiring policy and will provide job training to anyone who walks through the door looking for work. They also provide community gardens, low-income housing, workforce development, and an array of other community services. It’s great to see that Orange Glad is supporting a business with such a strong ethical backbone!

Orange Glad Subscription Box Review – July 2015 - Shortbread

Vagabond White Chocolate & Hazelnut Biscotti (3 oz.)- $4.75

I’m a big fan of biscotti, and this is delicious. The prominent flavor is vanilla, which pairs really well with the hazelnuts and white chocolate chips. Biscotti can sometimes be very hard, but the texture of this biscotti is more like that of a crunchy cookie.

Raspberry Jam Shortbread (1.1 oz)- $1.99

This is a beautiful cookie, but, since it’s pretty similar to the McTavish Shortbread Cone, it’s difficult not to compare the two. While I like the raspberry filling in this cookie, I much prefer the taste and texture of McTavish’s shortbread.

Verdict: I really enjoy receiving a box of baked goods each month, and I think OrangeGlad’s Sweet Box does a good job of sourcing tasty snacks from small bakeries. I think the curation is excellent, and I enjoy trying baked goods from across the country. This month, the value totals approximately $18. That’s a pretty good considering the $19 cost, but, for me, this box is more about discovering new baked goods than it is about getting a great value.

What do you think of this month’s OrangeGlad Sweet Box?

I cancelled my box, trying to lose weight and don’t need the extra treats around. Customer service is excellent, they offered me 3 months for $13 each when I emailed my cancellation request, I declined, but the offer at reduced price was nice.

This is one of my favorite subscriptions, I LOVE all the different delicious treats they find. However, this month was my least favorite by far. 2 similar items took away from the variety I look forward too. Hopefully next month will be better.

I loved the biscotti this month! The blondie was pretty good for me but I thought it was a bit too crumbly – I would have preferred it more chewy. I’m not a fan of banana but the taste in the popcorn is subtle enough for me to enjoy. Looking forward to trying the rest! As far as value though, I had a six month deal on this sub and have definitely liked it a lot but I’m not sure I’ll continue without the discount.

This is one of my favourite boxes. There is always something really tasty . That Crispy treat in the June box was to die for!. I find their customer service to be amazing. I had a slight issue with the June box….they answered my live chat at 7pm at night and sent overnight delivery a whole replacement box
IMHO this box is far better than Treatsie whose boxes used to arrive totally melted each month

I used to love this box till they changed the packaging.

I got the July box through the new company called Boxxme. Loved all the treats and I agree that the ice cream shortbread was the better of the two. While I won’t subscribe to this box (don’t need the extra calories every month) I enjoyed the box very much and was happy to see the popcorn company isn’t to far from me so I will be stopping by some time to check out their other flavors.

This was a disappointing month for me. However, their customer service was quite responsive and accommodating, so I’d like to recognize them for that.

They didn’t use priority 3 day as usual, and didn’t mail in a nibble wrapper. It took a week to get here even though weren’t in the same state and both cookies and biscotti were crumbled to bits. I’m sure the popcorn and blonde would have been too if they were different types of items! I also was disappointed to see 2 of the items had artificial color/dyes. They replaced the damaged items quickly..using usual priority mail and bubble wrap. They even asked for my preferences if I wanted to substitute a different item (in my case, I asked for blondies because it was the best choice from the month IMO).

I meant bubble wrap! Not nibble wrap! And we ARE in the same state…oh poor typing and autocorrect…

I’m still eating my way through this box (haven’t tried the blondie or biscotti yet) and it’s ok. But, I thought last month’s box was really amazing, so I’m not too excited. Glad to try new things, though!
