MunchPak Subscription Box Review + Coupon - July 2015 - Card

MunchPak includes a card signed by the person who packed your box. Keep in mind that boxes vary between subscribers, so your MunchPak might be completely different from mine!

On the card, there’s information about how to customize your box. Using their online portal, you can select ingredients as “preferred” or “non-preferred.” While this does not guarantee that those snacks will or will not be sent, it increases the likelihood that your box will suit your particular tastes. MunchPak charges $1 per customization request per delivery. So, for example, if you want to avoid “Seafood” and “Meat” snacks, each box will cost an extra $2.

MunchPak Subscription Box Review + Coupon - July 2015 - Rosta

Garuda Rosta Kacang Panggang (90 g.)

This baked Indonesian snack consists of peanuts that are coated with a crunchy, flavored coating (garlic, I think). They’re tasty and hard to stop eating.

Jayone Spicy Nugget (1.40 oz.)

Spicy Nugget is a “corn pop” snack with sweet and spicy flavors. Jayone is a large Korean food company that makes a wide range of different products. I received Jayone Shrimp Chips in my first MunchPak and (to my surprise) really enjoyed them. It might be time for me to take a field trip to my local Korean grocery to check out more of their products!

MunchPak Subscription Box Review + Coupon - July 2015 - Sortz

Cosmos Sweet Potato Shaped Snacks (70 g.)

Cosmos is another snack that hails from Korea. The crisps are sweet, savory, and flavored with sesame seeds. My favorite thing about this snack is that they’re swirled- they look like baked cross-sections of little cinnamon rolls! Flavor wise, I think they’re okay. Not my favorite snack in this MunchPak, but I like them.

Bourbon Petit Lemon Cream Crackers (45 g.)- $1.39

In last month’s MunchPak, I received Bourbon Petit potato chips that were like miniature Pringles. They were fantastic, so I’m happy to receive a different product from the Japanese company in this box. The Lemon Cream Crackers are delicious, but a little unexpected. Unlike similar US products that sandwich sweet lemon cream between two cookies, these use savory crackers that taste very similar to Ritz. I love the combination of the buttery, sweet, and savory flavors, and I wasn’t the only one to think so. As soon as these were open, my husband inhaled them!

Sour Power Sortz (1.75 oz.)- $1.03

Since MunchPak sends snacks from around the world, I love scouring the packets to find out where each snack is from. Based on the info I found on the Sortz label, it seems that this candy is made in Holland and distributed in the US. Online, I found a few older Americans talking about how they remember eating Sortz when they were kids, but I’ve never seen them for sale in US stores before. Perhaps Sortz is a popular Dutch candy that was more widely available in this country a few decades ago? I’m not sure. Regardless, I really enjoyed trying them. I like sour straws, and these have a nice ratio of fruity candy to sour coating.

MunchPak Subscription Box Review + Coupon - July 2015 - SuperRebanaditas

Yaokin Pizza Bar (6 g.)

Yaokin Bars are one of my favorite new international snack discoveries! Each bar is like a giant Cheeto that’s doused in flavor. In last month’s MunchPak, I received a Yaokin “Salad” Bar. This month, the flavor is “Pizza.” To be honest, the two varieties taste pretty similar, but I like them both!

Super Rebanaditas with Chilli (.88 oz)- $.26

Super Rebanaditas is a watermelon-flavored lollipop that’s coated in a chili powder. The packet contains quite a lot of the spicy powder, so I’m assuming it’s intended to be eaten like a Fun Dip (one of my favorite childhood sweets!), in that the lollipop can be dipped into the powder after each lick. After sampling all of the chili-flavored snacks in last month's box from Universal Yums, it’s no surprise to me that this candy comes from Mexico!

MunchPak Subscription Box Review + Coupon - July 2015 - Panda

Panda Licorice Raspberry Bar (1.125 oz.)- $.69

I’m a big fan of Panda Licorice Bars. They hail from Finland and nicely balance licorice and fruity flavors. I used to think the licorice flavor in Panda bars was quite strong, but I’ve recently received a few products in subscription boxes that have made me realize just how strong licorice flavors can be. The Double Salted Dutch Licorice I received recently in Box #2 from 30 Days of Candy is a good example- the potent, salty flavor nearly made my eyes pop out of my head!

Grape Puccho Stick (1.76 oz.)- $1.68

This Japanese candy reminds me of Hi-Chew. The texture is very similar (firm & chewy) and the candy is packaged in almost exactly the same way. I’m a fan of the bold grape flavor, and I found it to be slightly addictive. I had a hard time stopping after two chews- I wanted to eat the whole pack!

Softi Chewy Candy (2 pieces)- $.18

German Softi candy is new to me, and the packaging is unusual (it reminds me of the packaging often used for powdered drink mixes). Each flat packet contains a chewy candy that looks like long, thin stick of gum. I really like the mixed fruit flavor.

Verdict: I really enjoy receiving boxes from MunchPak! I think it’s so much fun trying new snacks from around the world, and MunchPak has done an excellent job introducing me to new and unusual international snacks. I’m not going to do a specific value breakdown for this box because I couldn’t find all of the items for sale online, but I think the $19.95 price is definitely fair. I like that MunchPack offers the option to customize your box, but, at $1 per request, I can see how customizing could get pricey pretty fast. So, I think this box probably offers the best value for adventurous subscribers who aren’t too picky about they types of snacks they receive.

Have you tried any of the snacks featured in this MunchPak?
