Golden Tote $149 Tote Review – July 2015

Golden Tote $149 Tote Review – July 2015 Tote

Golden Tote is one of my favorite monthly packages – and I think a good deal of my wardrobe is now from Golden Tote items!

If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: Every month you get to pick out 1-2 pieces, and they surprise you with the rest. (The surprise items are completely different from the pieces you pick from).

FYI – This is not a typical subscription, each month they release a new collection and you can decide whether or not you want to buy it. For returns it’s an all-or-nothing deal. You can return the entire tote for a refund, but you can’t return individual pieces.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

(FYI – I also paid for expedited 2-day shipping).

Golden Tote also includes some styling suggestion cards for the items you pick.

Golden Tote $149 Tote Review – July 2015 Maxi Blue

Ladylike Leopard Maxi Dress – Value $62

(Fabric: self: 100% polyester, contrast: 100% polyester, lining: 100% polyester, Care instructions: Hand wash cold, do not bleach, flat dry)

This is one of my two picks for the tote. (I definitely went bolder with choices this month than I normally do!)

Golden Tote $149 Tote Review – July 2015 Maxi Blue Front

This dress is lined to mid-thigh, with a knee-high side slit. The only concern I had when I pulled the dress out of the bag is that the straps aren’t adjustable:

Fortunately this dress length/strap length works for me, but that may be a deterrent for some.

Golden Tote $149 Tote Review – July 2015 Maxi Bright

Step Bright Up Dress – Value $62

(Fabric: 100% Polyester, care: hand wash cold or dry clean, lay flat to dry).

This is definitely bright! It looks so cute on the model:

I’m not sure I can pull off the look though. It’s also another dress without adjustable straps:

But it is lined! (We’ll see if I use this next time I’m near a pool or at a beach – hopefully, that isn’t too far away!)

On to my surprise items:

Golden Tote $149 Tote Review – July 2015 Top

HYPR Blouse – Value $40?

(100% Polyester, wash with similar colors, do not tumble dry).

This is my favorite item in the tote this month. The front has a beige lining underneath, and the back is a semi-sheer black fabric with an exposed zipper:

It’s a little on the shorter side, so I think it will look perfect with high-waist jeans.

Golden Tote $149 Tote Review – July 2015 Tank

Skies Are Blue Tank – Value $35?

(95% Rayon, 5% Spandex, hand wash cold, lay flat to dry).

I like the Skies Are Blue brand a lot, and this tank is another perfect item for me. The material and cut drape in a very flattering way, and the back has a mesh insert to make it a little more interesting:

Golden Tote $149 Tote Review – July 2015 Draped Dress

Lumiere Dress – Value $40?

(50% Polyester, 37% Cotton, 13% Rayon, hand wash, dry flat).

I like the idea of this dress, but it turned out not to be so flattering on. The issue for me is the extra fabric on the opposite side of the draping:

I’m guessing this dress would be very flattering on other people, but for me and my proportions, it didn’t quite match up.

Golden Tote $149 Tote Review – July 2015 Maxi PInk

Hourglass Lilly Maxi – Value $45?

(95% Rayon, 5% Spandex)

Another brand I like! (I actually own a few Hourglass Lilly maxis).

Golden Tote $149 Tote Review – July 2015 Maxi DEtail

I made a note in my style profile letting them know I love maxis, and in general it seems to work. I think I get at least one surprise item maxi per $149 tote.

Golden Tote $149 Tote Review – July 2015 Back

This is one of those dresses that I would through on if I want to be very comfortable, but it still looks put together and doesn’t add a lot of bulk.

Verdict: I’m happy with my $149 Golden Tote this month. The only surprise miss for me is the grey dress, and I am guilty of picking a neon maxi that is too bold of a look for me – so that’s on me!

What did you get from Golden Tote this month?

  1. I ended up trading the two items I picked and loved the surprise ones! The sizes vary a lot between clothing lines so it’s tough to know how everything will fit. Maybe they’ll carry petites soon?

  2. I got the leopard maxi but ended up returning the tote because the majority of my items didn’t fit me well.

  3. I’m pretty happy with my tote again this month. My chosen items were the Short Sleeve Webbed Tunic which I really like and the Go-To Pocket Dress in orange which is very cute on but came so wrinkled (and it’s just been too darn hot to break out the iron!) that I haven’t worn it yet. For my surprise items I got that adorable Pink Owl bicycle dress I asked for! Yay! Also received a V-neck Gauzy Top in Dusty Pink, a Chevron Striped Fitted Dress (awesome dress but going to require a very body confident day! 🙂 ) and a Green Bo Bel Tee. The only thing I’ve put up for swap is the Bo Bel Tee because I received another Bo Bel tee a few totes back that is very similar and I like more.

I love the Ladylike Leopard Maxi Dress but can’t do dresses that aren’t bra friendly so skipped it. If the back was different I would order it right now! I’m pretty new to Golden Tote (this was my third) but really like it so far. This was the first month I definitely liked my Tote more than my Stitch Fix!

  4. I’ve always wondered: What do you do with all the golden tote totes themselves?

    • Me too. I’ve noticed Liz gets lots of totes in bags. I just imagine stacks of totes in the closet. LOL

      • I’ve been a Golden Tote buyer for over a year, and my answer regarding the many totes:
I have the most fashionable grocery bags. 🙂

        • Love this! 🙂

  5. I so want that neon maxi! It’s gorgeous!
