30 Days of Candy Subscription Box Review - July 2015 - Box

30 Days Of Candy
5 overall rating

30 Days of Candy is a new subscription box that sends “30 unique, individually packaged, expertly curated, deliciously indulgent, and portion controlled candies every month, all centered around a fun theme.”

Unlike many subscriptions that send the same monthly shipment to all subscribers, 30 Days of Candy sends their boxes in a particular sequence. This means that if you sign up for a new subscription your subscription will begin with Box #1- "Around the world in 30 sweets! 30 candies from 30 countries."

This is a review of Box #2.

30 Days of Candy Subscription Box Review - July 2015 - Card1

Each box from 30 Days of Candy has its own theme. The theme for Box #2 is “from durian to treacle and ramune to sassafras! 30 candies with delicious, albeit unusual flavors.”

Since this box includes 30 different packs (a lot!), I’ve selected a few packs to feature at the start of the review and have listed the rest at the bottom.

Dill Pickle Candy Barrels

Of all the strange and unusual flavors featured in this box, I think I was most wary of this one. Unbelievably, I actually quite like this candy! The flavor is amazingly authentic; these candies definitely have that signature briny, tangy, pickle flavor. They’re balanced with a moderate amount of sweetness, though, and really quite delicious. They have to be the strangest candy I’ve ever eaten!

Satellite Wafers

Satellite Wafers, also known as Flying Saucers, are made primarily from cornstarch. “The shell is edible but has no discernible flavor, with the texture of bland styrofoam. It melts on your tongue and is merely the delivery system for tiny sugar beads inside.” I really like Satellite Wafers. While they aren’t the most delicious candy I’ve ever had, I can’t resist them- they’re simply too much fun to eat!

Kasugai Gummies in Lychee & Muscat

I regularly pick up these lychee-flavored gummies at my local Asian grocery store. They have a lovely fruity and floral flavor, and I like the soft, gummy texture. The Muscat flavored gummies are a new discovery, though, and I’m a big fan of them, too. Like Lychee, Muscat is perfumed and fruity. I’ll have to check and see if my local shop stocks them. If so, I’ll happily buy more.

Durian Candy

Durian is an extremely divisive fruit. Even before it’s peeled, it emits an odor that’s been compared to the smell of rotting meat, which has led to a ban of the fruit in Asian hotels and on public transportation. Despite it’s pungent aroma, however, many people have an intense appreciate for its acquired taste. 30 Days of Candy describes this candy as “differently delicious,” but it wasn’t for me. The flavor is hard to describe- “musky,” “fruity,” “faintly tropical,” and “overripe” are all words that come to mind. I wasn’t a fan, but I’m glad I had a chance to try such an unusual sweet.

I also want to mention that each packet includes a “name that candy” game on the backside of its info card. Such a fun extra, I think!

30 Days of Candy Subscription Box Review - July 2015 - Next

30 Days of Candy also included a card revealing the theme for Box #3. It will be: “The candies of our grandparents and great grandparents! 30 candies that are good enough to have stood the test of time for at least 80 years, often longer.”

Verdict: I love this month’s theme from 30 Days of Candy, and I think the selection of candy is diverse and delicious. I can’t believe how many different flavors are represented, and I can’t wait to try them all! I like that 30 Days of Candy sends candy in pre-portioned packs, and I enjoy picking out a pack or two to snack on each evening. In terms of value, the cost breaks down to $1.20 per pack. I think this is a really fun concept for a candy box, and I’m looking forward to sampling all of the exotic flavors featured in this month’s box!

I would love to subscribe to this box but was a little disappointed that they go in sequence, not pick up with the monthly theme – that’s one reason I cancelled my Candy Club subscription. I don’t mind getting the introductory box but don’t really like this box… And am super excited about Box #3. If I were to subscribe today, would I get the intro box and then next month get box 2, then box 3, etc. or would I get the intro and then just jump into the monthly themes with everyone else?

This has been the best food box I’ve signed up for ever! Yes, the cost per baggie is a bit high BUT getting a little bit of so many different candies is worth it. To try all of these you would have to buy bigger portions which would be very expensive. It’s a great way to experiment and to limit my sugar consumption each day!

Also I think that the cards add a LOT to the curation of the box. I love reading the history of each candy. The first month there was a fact or saying about the country of origin for each kind of candy. I’ve saved all the cards as I’ve gone through the candy.

I’ve just started this box (I still haven’t finished the last one) but absolutely loved the clove candy!!

I am unable to find this box through the search option. I want to add it to my wants list. Please help!

Almost doubling the cost for shipping to Canada is unfortunate – looks like it could be a really cool way to try new sweets. Though I think I’d pass on dill pickle “sweets”.

I really like the premise behind this subscription. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t be able to make the 30 packs last the entire month.

My granddaughter and I really enjoy this subscription. We take turns picking out a package and enjoy reading the cards included. This is our second box and adding in the entertainment factor feel this has been a good value. I have been impressed with the selection of candies.

I’m a very picky eater and I’m not very adventurous so this box went to my husband. My daughter has eaten more of this box than I have, but I told them that the next box is mine! They really loved the Chinese Hawthorn and my husband actually liked the durian candy, but it smelled awful and left the room smelling rank for a while after he opened the package.

Thanks for the great review. It looks like a lot of fun, I wish it was a little cheaper.

Do they list the ingredients somewhere? I’m trying to get a sense of how much artificial dye might be used in various candies.

I’m really loving this sub so far! I didn’t think I could but I managed to make the first box last the whole month. I haven’t tried a lot of the candy in the new box yet but the matcha taffies are awesome (and much chewier than the white rabbit candy from last month if anyone else also found them too hard) and the sasafrass really does taste exactly like root beer – i had no idea that it was the “root” in root beer – the little info tidbits on the cards are so fun! I can’t wait to try all the flavors this month and am already looking forward to the ‘candies of our grandparents’ box next month!

Thank you so much for continuing to review this box! I love the idea of this box and while I’m not sure yet about spending that much per month, I like that they have a one-time purchase option as well. I’m thinking about buying it for my son for Christmas. He would be over the moon to get a box of candy like this.

I really like this box. Having the individual packets really helps to not overindulge and I love trying things from different places with new flavors. So far I’ve even been able to make the boxes last 30 days!

I was most excited to try the durian, and then I couldn’t spit it out fast enough, lol.
