30 Days of Candy is a new subscription box that sends “30 unique, individually packaged, expertly curated, deliciously indulgent, and portion controlled candies every month, all centered around a fun theme.”
Unlike many subscriptions that send the same monthly shipment to all subscribers, 30 Days of Candy sends their boxes in a particular sequence. This means that if you sign up for a new subscription your subscription will begin with Box #1- "Around the world in 30 sweets! 30 candies from 30 countries."
This is a review of Box #2.
This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)
The Subscription Box: 30 Days of Candy
The Cost: $29.95 + $5.95 shipping
The Products: 30 individually packaged packs of candy
Ships to: US and Canada (Canadian shipping is $21.70.)
Each box from 30 Days of Candy has its own theme. The theme for Box #2 is “from durian to treacle and ramune to sassafras! 30 candies with delicious, albeit unusual flavors.”
Since this box includes 30 different packs (a lot!), I’ve selected a few packs to feature at the start of the review and have listed the rest at the bottom.
Dill Pickle Candy Barrels
Of all the strange and unusual flavors featured in this box, I think I was most wary of this one. Unbelievably, I actually quite like this candy! The flavor is amazingly authentic; these candies definitely have that signature briny, tangy, pickle flavor. They’re balanced with a moderate amount of sweetness, though, and really quite delicious. They have to be the strangest candy I’ve ever eaten!
Satellite Wafers
Satellite Wafers, also known as Flying Saucers, are made primarily from cornstarch. “The shell is edible but has no discernible flavor, with the texture of bland styrofoam. It melts on your tongue and is merely the delivery system for tiny sugar beads inside.” I really like Satellite Wafers. While they aren’t the most delicious candy I’ve ever had, I can’t resist them- they’re simply too much fun to eat!
Kasugai Gummies in Lychee & Muscat
I regularly pick up these lychee-flavored gummies at my local Asian grocery store. They have a lovely fruity and floral flavor, and I like the soft, gummy texture. The Muscat flavored gummies are a new discovery, though, and I’m a big fan of them, too. Like Lychee, Muscat is perfumed and fruity. I’ll have to check and see if my local shop stocks them. If so, I’ll happily buy more.
Durian Candy
Durian is an extremely divisive fruit. Even before it’s peeled, it emits an odor that’s been compared to the smell of rotting meat, which has led to a ban of the fruit in Asian hotels and on public transportation. Despite it’s pungent aroma, however, many people have an intense appreciate for its acquired taste. 30 Days of Candy describes this candy as “differently delicious,” but it wasn’t for me. The flavor is hard to describe- “musky,” “fruity,” “faintly tropical,” and “overripe” are all words that come to mind. I wasn’t a fan, but I’m glad I had a chance to try such an unusual sweet.
I also want to mention that each packet includes a “name that candy” game on the backside of its info card. Such a fun extra, I think!
Here’s a list of the other 26 unusual flavors featured in this box and the candies that incorporate them:

30 Days of Candy also included a card revealing the theme for Box #3. It will be: “The candies of our grandparents and great grandparents! 30 candies that are good enough to have stood the test of time for at least 80 years, often longer.”
Verdict: I love this month’s theme from 30 Days of Candy, and I think the selection of candy is diverse and delicious. I can’t believe how many different flavors are represented, and I can’t wait to try them all! I like that 30 Days of Candy sends candy in pre-portioned packs, and I enjoy picking out a pack or two to snack on each evening. In terms of value, the cost breaks down to $1.20 per pack. I think this is a really fun concept for a candy box, and I’m looking forward to sampling all of the exotic flavors featured in this month’s box!
