Vegan Cuts Snack Box Subscription Review – June 2015 - card

Each Vegan Cuts Snack Box comes with an information card detailing the items for that month.

Vegan Cuts Snack Box Subscription Review – June 2015 - chips

Beanitos Original Black Bean with Sea Salt Chips (1.1 oz) – Value $0.98

I’ve had these before. Frequently. I like them and have even bought them at Whole Foods before but I think they are becoming this year’s Beanfield’s chips (i.e., included in nearly every subscription box).

Ginnybar Karma, Love, and Apricot Bar (1.23 oz) – Value $1.40

This bar is interesting. It has a lot of nuts in it and you taste those more than you taste the apricots.

Nature’s Bakery Gluten Free Raspberry Fig Bar (2 oz) – Value $0.88

I have had these before but I like them. I don’t need to eat gluten free so I regularly have the “real thing.” But this is one of those GF items that has a good texture. And these are so much better than Fig Newtons.

Vegan Cuts Snack Box Subscription Review – June 2015 - cookies

Go Raw Choco Crunch Sprouted Cookies (0.5 oz) – Value $0.92

These taste like they’re good for you. I can see them appealing to a certain group of people, and the ingredients list is very simple (coconut, sprouted sesame seeds, dates, cacao – all organic). But I don’t think I would seek them out again. Still, I’m glad I got to try this small bag.

Pukka Gorgeous Earl Grey Tea (1 bag) – Value $0.31

I love tea and drink 5 or 6 cups a day (at least) but I’m not a huge fan of Earl Grey. And yet I *always* get Earl Grey in subscription boxes. I’m sure my fiance will enjoy this, though.

Home Free Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies (1.1 oz) – Value $1.37

I’ve had these before, too. Usually I like them but this bag was a little stale. They’re gluten free and normally quite good for packaged cookies.

Vegan Cuts Snack Box Subscription Review – June 2015 - drinks

Dark Dog Energy Drink in Original (12 oz) – Value $2.47

They gave us the blood orange flavor in last month’s box. It was good but I’m saving this for the next time my fiance comes over because it has so much sugar, I don’t want to drink the whole thing myself.

Sun Warrior Warrior Blend Raw Vegan Protein in Chocolate (25 g) – Value $1.50

This mixes into almond milk pretty well for a vegan protein and includes pea protein, cranberry protein (I didn’t even know there was such a thing), and hemp seed protein. (And yes, I know it says “warrior” twice in that product name! “Sun Warrior” is the brand and “warrior blend” is the protein blend.)

Vegan Cuts Snack Box Subscription Review – June 2015 - peas

World Peas Texas Barbeque (1.5 oz) – Value $1.50

I’ve had these before, also (I’m beginning to notice a theme). I used to wonder why roasted chickpea snacks were so popular but you never saw any other kinds of legumes. Well, now you do. These are green peas (and World Peas now has roasted fava bean snacks, too).

SooFoo Original (6 oz) – Value $3.99

This is new to me. I like getting pantry items in subscription boxes. I made this into a pilaf sort of dish by sautéing an onion in olive oil, then adding this mix (a bunch of grains and lentils), then adding vegetable broth and simmering for about 45 minutes. Oh yes, and I used a lot of curry powder. It turned out really well and I would definitely buy this again.

Fruigees Kalefornia Grape Organic Fruit Snack (3.5 oz) – Value $1.99

Yet another thing I’ve had before. What impresses me about this is that you can’t taste the kale at all.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $17.31 for this month’s Vegan Cuts Snack Box. I don’t expect huge values in food boxes although it would be nice if (1) the value at least equaled the cost of the box and (2) there weren’t so many items that were repeats for me from this and/or other boxes (Beanitos, Fruigees, Nature’s Bakery, Home Free, World Peas, Dark Dog, etc.). I think my favorite find from the box is the SooFoo – it’s totally the kind of thing I would eat anyway, and it was pretty easy to prepare.

What do you think of the June 2015 Vegan Cuts Snack Box?

I’m kind of bummed about this month’s box. I received the same items as you did-minus the World Peas and the squeeze pouch! I’m over the energy drinks-this is the 3rd month in s row that I’ve received one and I don’t like energy drinks. I really look forward to receiving my box each month, but the last couple haven’t been so great. I’ll give it one more month for them to up their game….come on, Vegan Cuts!! :/

I would contact them about the missing items.

I’m not big on energy drinks, either. I don’t like drinking things with so much sugar. Last month’s can had 34 grams of added sugar, which is more than you should consume in a day (according to the World Health Organization). I wouldn’t mind if they would switch brands every so often and maybe include something sweetened with stevia occasionally but they’ve had the same brand, different flavors, for three months running.

I guess I’ve been subscribing to too many food boxes when I start to get repeats like this…
