STITCH FIX MATERNITY JUNE 2015 - BOX

Stitch Fix is a monthly styling subscription service. When you sign up you take a pretty in-depth survey about your sizes, your style, and pricing preferences, and then your personal stylist sends you 5 items to try once a month. The fee for this service is $20, and that includes free shipping and free returns. And if you keep any of the items they send you, you get to deduct the $20 fee from the total. (If you keep all five items, you also get a 25% discount!)

Stitch Fix recently began offering maternity clothes and I’m pregnant (due in August!) so I’m checking out their selection to help me build my maternity wardrobe!

FYI – My items are reflective of my style and price preferences, so your Stitch Fix may be completely different!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

And this is my invoice sheet. It lists the prices per item and the discount I’d receive by keeping all 5 items.

STITCH FIX MATERNITY JUNE 2015 - item 1

Loveapella Maternity Lovie Tie-Bottom Maternity Tank – Cost to Keep: $48

This tank top is definitely not my usual style, but it’s comfortable! I like that it’s sleeveless but not spaghetti-strap. Personally, I don’t feel it’s especially flattering but it might be nice to have a low-effort top in my wardrobe. Also, I think I could wear this as a looser style when I’m not pregnant. Unfortunately, I just don’t love enough for the price.

STITCH FIX MATERNITY JUNE 2015 - item 2

Loveapella Maternity Kelis Lace Detail Maternity Top – Cost to Keep: $54

This is my favorite item in my whole box this month! This top is incredibly comfortable and flattering, and I love the lace detail! Normally I’d hate that the lace would make it impossible to wear a normal bra, but the lace’s pattern is small enough that you can’t even see my bra straps so long as they’re skin color.

STITCH FIX MATERNITY JUNE 2015 - item 3

Full Moon Alfred Maternity Knit Top – Cost to Keep: $48

I like certain parts of this top. The style and fit is cute and comfortable, and I love the bright accents and stripe details. However, I generally avoid the color tan in my wardrobe (and it’s pretty much the only color not listed as an option to select under “colors to avoid” in the style profile quiz) – I just feel like it does nothing flattering for my complexion. If I could have this top in a different color combination, I’d love it.

STITCH FIX MATERNITY JUNE 2015 - item 4

Loveapella Maternity Chango Maternity Knit Top – Cost to Keep: $54

It seems like people tend to either love or hate stripes – I actually love them. I think this top is cute and flattering, but I don’t know if I’ll still think that about it when I’m not pregnant and am trying to avoid drawing attention to my midsection. Also, the neckline is quite high! I like how it looks, but I am going to have to start thinking about how easily a top will allow me to nurse the baby soon, and I just don’t think this shirt will make that simple or comfortable. That being said, I like the way it looks and I really like the length of the sleeves; I’m just not sure if that’s enough for me to keep it.

STITCH FIX MATERNITY JUNE 2015 - item 5

Loveapella Maternity Mike Maternity Dress – Cost to Keep: $68

This dress is easy-to-wear and fits pretty well. I love the neckline especially. The pleather detail is a nice touch aesthetically, but it was rather uncomfortable on my shoulders – it felt restricting and like it would stick to my skin some if I got a little warm. It’s a nice dress, but I just don’t love it and I don’t think it’s really an item I’m needing in my wardrobe.

The Verdict: This month’s Stitch Fix wasn’t a huge hit for me. I felt like there wasn’t much variety in the tops – it seemed like I was trying the exact same style with a different pattern/design over and over again. Along those lines, I was a little surprised they sent three tops with 3/4 length and “long short sleeves” (I don’t really know how else to word that – are half-sleeves a thing?) together, especially in a summer box. The feedback I left last month specifically said that I need tops that I can wear normal bras with, meaning I prefer no racer-backs, large cut-out details, or spaghetti-straps but frankly I feel like they may have taken that feedback too extremely and this month’s collection was covering too much skin for my taste.

My total cost to keep everything (including the $20 styling fee credited towards my total, and the 25% off to keep all 5 items) is $184, which is significantly less than last month’s fix (yay!). Unfortunately, I don’t plan to keep everything, though. I love the grey striped top, and really like the blue striped top but I still have reservations about how it will fit into my lifestyle post-baby.

What do you think about Stitch Fix?

For breastfeeding, I just found it easiest to lift the shirt and bought lots of nursing tanks to cover midsection when doing so. Amazon has an “undercover mama” tank that I love as it hooks on your nursing bra (I.e., nursing tank with support!). And note that you will still be wearing maternity clothes for awhile after birth (depening on how fast you drop the weight – I was back to pre-preggers weight by 12 weeks, but still wore maternity clothes for couple months after birth)

Button-down over tank works well. A friend of mine wore a lot of larger scarves that doubled as nursing covers.

You should keep the black/white (navy/white?) top– it looks great on you!

Well, you looked adorable in everything! I liked the gray striped top best.

Absolutely gorgeous! And yes, start thinking about tops that would make breastfeeding comfortable. As I’m very short, what worked best for me was to just lift my shirt in the side I was breastfeeding, the baby’s head and body covered up most of my skin. But I don’t know if it’d work for someone with a longer torso.

BTW, don’t worry too much about how you’ll look after you have the baby. Believe me, everyone’s eyes will go to the baby, not you 🙂

Agreed – you look great! I forget when you’re due, but if you’re going to spend another 8 weeks pregnant then you might as well get the striped top.
