Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon – June 2015 Box

Gwynnie Bee is a clothing rental subscription service for women sizes 10-32. I have been intrigued with their concept for a while because I think plus-sized clothing is sorely underrepresented in the subscription box market. I have been really happy to have an opportunity to try them out!

Gwynnie Bee kindly invited me to try their service for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

This review is of the 3 items at a time subscription from 5/16 through 6/20. I went back to my usual pattern of trying to turn over the items as quickly as possible, but I was out of town for two weeks during this timeframe.

Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon – June 2015 Botanical

SPRUCE & SAGE – Lush Botanical Blouson Top

Blouson tops just never work for me, which is too bad because this was a really pretty, unusual print. One thing I didn’t like about this top, though, is that it had an elastic waist and a belt. When that happens, the belt and the elastic never fall at the same place on the waist, and I think that looks bad. I wish it had just been the belt!

Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon – June 2015 Patchwork

TRISTE – Patch Print V-Neck Tunic

I was worried that this top might look kind of country-bumpkin-ish when I put it in my virtual closet, but it doesn’t at all. It’s pretty flattering, actually! It was definitely too heavy for this hot weather we’ve been having, though. This would have worked much better in fall.

Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon – June 2015 Shari

BB DAKOTA – Shari Top

This top, however, was super cool to wear, even with a short-sleeve light jacket. I liked the colors a lot, too. This top was great!

Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon – June 2015 Mosaic
LEOTA – Nouveau Sheath Dress In Imperial Mosaic

This dress was a bit short on me, but it would look amazing on someone with nice legs! I really liked it a lot. It was lightweight and so summery. I absolutely loved the neckline on this dress, too! It’s a boatneck in the front but has a little bit of a V in the back. It was great to wear with a ponytail!

Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon – June 2015 Wrap

LONDON TIMES – Faux Wrap Dress In Black & Red

This dress was my favorite item all month! The cut was super flattering! It also had more natural fibers, so it was comfortable to wear even though it was more covering on the arms and legs. Plus, I got a random compliment from a stranger on this dress, which is always a sure sign that it’s a winner!

Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon – June 2015 Francine

IGIGI – Francine Dress In Mulberry

It was a bit strange to wear two black and red dresses in the same week, but I don’t think anyone noticed. I loved the belt on this dress! It’s built into the dress, but wraps back around like a kimono belt. It looked great on, too!

Verdict: This was a short month for me due to travel, but I received six pieces in basically two and a half weeks, which is turning out to be about the average for me. I like to wear something different as often as possible, so I generally receive, wear, and return each piece in three days, tops. Over the past four months I’ve only bought one item, and they were having a special sale (30% off any at-home item) or I’m not sure I would have. I would like to see better prices to keep the pieces, I think they are a little high for used clothing.

I will say that every piece I have received was in excellent shape with no smell whatsoever! I have seen a few comments on the GB site where people have complained of odors, and I have absolutely never had that problem with this service so far. I have also had great luck with sizing! There has only been one or two items that were (oddly enough) too big, but I also always read any sizing notes they may have. Plus, I have loved or really liked about 90% of everything they have sent me! If you are a plus-size woman who likes to wear something different every day, then I would absolutely recommend Gwynnie Bee! It’s fabulous!

  1. I’ve had it since last November and can’t say I really love it, more of a love/hate relationship. I wear a 3x or 4x and not a lot of stuff fits me, I’ve gotten a lot of stuff with super worn looking fabrics, a couple jackets with holes in the pockets. The late shipping or items “taking two months to get back to them.” I’ve had stuff in my closet since November, that I still can’t get. I want the SWAK dresses so bad, INC or Igigi, but I never get them. On the flip side I have had the chance to try a few brand new items with the pockets still sewn shut and have purchased a couple items. I just think it’s a super high amount to pay for not a quick turnaround getting a new item.

  2. I’m finishing out my free month and I’ve liked the service and am considering keeping it. I joined because it is difficult to find plus size brands in stores that I like so I end up having to go trial and error with a lot of websites and sizing. I went into this wanting to purchase items that I like, and love that they have Igigi, which is one of my favorite (though very expensive) brands, so when they have a sale I can stock up. I haven’t had any issues with deteriorating fabrics, cleanliness, or scent, and the shipping has been good. I just wish I could put my closet in order of how much I want to receive something. I also hope they start picking up some more brands. They recently added FTF which is a lower price point, so I am hoping they will add Torrid, and I’d love to see some I.N.C., which is one of my favorite brands. But so far, so good.

    • I’ve seen a couple INC pieces but not a lot. I bet they have some deal going with Macys. I love Igigi and Kiyonna!! The higher brands like that are made with better quality fabrics so they stand up to the GB laundering MUCH better than the cheap stuff (FTF is not going to fare well over time IMO).

      • I totally agree. I’m not a fan of FTF anyway. I have a bunch of Kiyonna clothes at home but am happy to be able to try them out first now since their dresses tend to fit me weird (love their tops, though!). I wish they could get some Lee Lee’s Valise. Her stuff is gorgeous but sooo pricey.

  3. I was excited for plus sized clothing but at $35/one item at a time…didn’t work for me. I like Unlimited by RTR better.

  4. I’ve had GB since about March and have enjoyed it! It’s pretty heavy on dresses so that’s worth noting. You really need to check each individual brand’s size chart to know what to get – each and every one runs different, that’s one thing I’ve certainly learned from GB!

Sometimes their turnaround rates are faster than others. I tend to be a micro-manager of my account so I’ve almost always got something coming and going but it’s good to keep track of.
