Candy Club Subscription Box Review + Coupon – June 2015 -Unpacked

Here’s a photo of everything unpacked from the box. It really is a lot of candy!

Candy Club Subscription Box Review + Coupon – June 2015 - Strawberries

Allan Tangy Wild Strawberries

I’ve never had Tangy Wild Strawberries before, but I’m a fan of similar sour fruit gummies (watermelon slices, sour cherries, peaches, etc). Unsurprisingly, I’m a fan of these, too! They’re a perfect balance of sweet and tart, and I think the strawberry flavor is distinct without being overpowering. (FYI- Candy Club usually includes at least one sour candy in each box, which is a good thing to consider if you’re thinking about subscribing.)

Candy Club Subscription Box Review + Coupon – June 2015 -Watermelon

Primrose Watermelon Drops

Primrose Watermelon Drops are hard candies sanded with a sugar coating. The watermelon flavor is sweet with a substantial tang, and, while I usually prefer gummy candy, this might be my favorite candy in this month’s box! (Note: I couldn’t find the Primrose Watermelon Drops for sale online, but I believe they’re similar to these.)

Candy Club Subscription Box Review + Coupon – June 2015 -FruitSours

Sweet's Assorted Fruit Sours

Sweet’s Fruit Sours come in the following flavors: cherry, lemon, grape, tangerine, and sour apple. They have soft, gummy centers and are coated in a soft candy shell. There’s something nostalgic for me about this candy’s appearance, and I really like the assortment of flavors.

Candy Club Subscription Box Review + Coupon – June 2015 -Taffy

Sweet's Salt Water Taffy State Fair Mix

Sweet’s State Fair Salt Water Taffy is a mix of buttered popcorn, cotton candy, red licorice, and bubble gum flavored taffy. While I’m not usually a fan of buttered popcorn candy (I’m looking at you Jelly Belly Jelly Beans.), I think it might be my favorite flavor in this mix! The “butter” flavor is fairly subtle, and I like the added saltiness with the sweet corn flavor.

Candy Club Subscription Box Review + Coupon – June 2015 -Cola

Jones Cherry Cola Carbonated Candy

(This item isn’t listed on the information card, so I’m assuming it’s a bonus item that was added after the cards were printed.) Jones Candy is made by Jones Soda, so it’s no big surprise to me that the flavor tastes a lot like actual cherry cola. The “carbonation” is pretty light (there’s just a hint of effervescence), and the flavor and fizz remind me quite a bit of Bottlecaps.

Verdict: I really like Candy Club, and this box was a home run for me. I discovered five new candies and liked them all! I think the Candy Club packaging is top notch, and I appreciate the care with which they ship their products. In terms of value, Candy Club claims that each box will have a retail value of $60. I struggle a little bit with that because, while similar pricing is typical at high-end candy stores like Dylan’s Candy Bar, you can definitely purchase the same candy for a lot less if you buy it in bulk online. Still, I think Candy Club’s packaging and candy selection add a lot of value, and I think this subscription is a fun indulgence. It would also make a great gift.

What did you think of Candy Club?

This was my second month of Candy Club and I was super bummed. We received the same sour strips as last month. Our box also contained root beer barrel candies, which is something I can pick up at our local dollar store. I emailed customer service and completed a survey they sent and I have yet to hear back from anyone. This subscription is too expensive to receive the same candy, especially one we don’t like, two months in a row as well as candy I can pick up at the dollar store. 🙁 I’ll probably cancel our subscription.

We got our first box this month as well. Ours was different from yours too. 3 different candies and only cotton candy taffy. No other bonus item. I honestly thought we didn’t get the bonus because we used a coupon that saved us 20 dollars. I canceled because we’re not big on the sour stuff and 2 of the candies were sour. Canceling was very easy and the CS agent said that they are working on changing some things that would allow the customer to opt out of certain kinds of candy.

This was our first month too with the coupon. I’m pretty sure we received the same candies as you. Two sours (jelly beans and sour belts) plus pearly gummy bears and the taffy. No Jones candy.

I felt the same way…the CS agent told me the first two boxes are welcome boxes and then the third month everyone gets the same candy.

I used a coupon as well, and received the sour belts and sour jelly beans, as well as licorice scottish dogs. How weird that no one seems to have gotten the same exact 3 candies..

Rhubarb & Blackberry

We subbed to Candy Club for one month and did not get the bonus item. When we asked about that, we were told that the bonus items were ended and no one would be getting them. Hmmm….and about the variety – we were also told that they were mixing it up starting with that very month we asked the question. First box is same for all and then all subsequent boxes would be different. The bonus item is throwing us – why say they stopped but obviously still do it? They did try hard to keep us though.

I think that I would love this box and gain around 15 pounds a month. I love sour candies and do not think I would have the willpower to not down it all in one sitting. I did subscribe to the 30 days of candy box though and was able to make it last all 30 days so perhaps there is hope for my willpower yet.

I also received different candy but more concerning to me was that I did not get a bonus item like you all do each month. I even contacted Candy Club and did not receive a response. I was curious if the bonus item was for annual subscribers but have no idea.

I didn’t receive a bonus item either.

So, does everyone get different candies from Candy Club? I received my box a few days ago and received completely different candies.

I think this is one of the boxes where everybody gets boxes in the same order so box #1 is the same for everybody and they go in order from there. So if this is box #5 (I have no idea what number it is) then you would receive it for your 5th box.

That is an interesting thought Anna. You’d think the candy could possibly be stale if that were the case, but our candy wasn’t stale at all! I definitely want to know why we all get different candies.
