BabyBin Subscription Box Review - June 2015 - BOX

BabyBin is a monthly subscription box for moms and babies. Every month, they send you items necessary for the day-to-day process of caring for a new baby, and you only pay for what you keep. Their goal is to make parents’ lives a little bit easier and anticipate the needs involved in having a baby, including eliminating those “uh oh” moments or last-minute trip to the store for items you didn’t realize you’d need.

Every month, they send you a list of suggested items to be included in your box and you can go through and choose what items get sent and what items get swapped out for something different. Then you get your BabyBin in the mail and have 30 days to decide to keep what you want, and send back what you don’t (they include a free return shipping label)!

Because of this personalization process, my box will look much different than someone else’s box!

FYI – I’m due in late August with my first baby, a boy!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

BabyBin Subscription Box Review - June 2015 - items 1

Nose Frida the SnotSucker – value: $15

This product is supposed to be the new replacement for the round, suction thing for baby noses. It’s basically a tube that has one end in the baby’s nose and the other in the parents’ mouth, with a disposable filter in between to prevent the obvious gross mishap. I’ve heard a few moms say that this was the weirdest, but one of the most useful things they received as gifts when they had their baby. However, I just can’t get over the thought of using this! I think I’m going to send this back and if it ends up being something that I really could use once the baby’s here, then maybe I’ll buy or order it then.

Boon Grass Drying Rack – value: $13

This is such a pretty drying rack! I love the modern design and that it helps save space.

BabyBin Subscription Box Review - June 2015 - items 2

Gerber Newborn 2 Pack Long Sleeve Side Snap Mitten Cuffs Shirt – value: $7

Gerber Newborn 3 Pack Short Sleeve Side Snap Shirt – value: $9

Gerber Baby Boys Newborn 2 Pack Cute Gown, 0-6 months – value: $12

Basic clothing items like this are something I got a good amount of at my baby shower (in fact, I think I got these exact gowns!), so I feel like I have what I need in that regard.

BabyBin Subscription Box Review - June 2015 - items 3

Gerber 4 Pack Newborn Mittens – value: $6

Gerber Newborn 6 Pack Terry Hippo Burpcloth – value: $10

I still need burp cloths, but these are so thin that I feel like they really wouldn’t be very effective. Maybe for next month I can request nice, thick burping cloths.

BabyBin Subscription Box Review - June 2015- items 4

Sassy Rattlin Rings, Blue/Black – value: $5

Lamaze Jacques the Peacock – value: $13

Bright Starts Lots of Links – value: $5

Toys were something I told myself I wasn’t going to buy for the baby because I was expecting to get plenty as gifts, but we actually didn’t end up getting many at the shower. These three all have great ratings and are different enough from each other that I think they’ll be nice to have. The links, especially, I feel will be useful to “anchor” some other toys to his car seat or crib, as well as be fun on their own. Also, the rattling ring has some tips on the back about how to use it to develop touch and other senses, which I think is nice!

BabyBin Subscription Box Review - June 2015 - items 5

Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Diaper Ointment – 3 oz, value: $5.99

I like Burt’s Bees other products, so I’m hoping they will work well for my baby, as well! This has really great reviews, too.

Babyganics Moisturizing Daily Lotion with Chamomile & Verbena – 17 oz, value: $11

Babyganics Shampoo + Body Wash with Chamomile & Verbena – 16 oz, value: $12

I like the Babyganics brand, but the lotion packaging looks old. Another thing is that I’ve been stocking up on more trial-sized lotions and creams to see what I like and what works for my baby best – I was a very sensitive and particular baby, and if mine ends up that way, too, I don’t want to have already committed to such a large bottle of something he may not like.

BabyBin Subscription Box Review - June 2015 - items 6

Hyland’s Baby Natural Gas Drops – 1 oz, value: $10

Safety 1st Complete Healthcare Kit – value: $14

Both of these things are great essentials that many people may not think of until they need them, so I think they were good inclusions in my box.

BabyBin Subscription Box Review - June 2015 - items 7

Neat Solutions Sesame Street Multi-Use Pads – 10 ct, value: $5

These pads will be great to help save us some laundry and can be used in a crib, car seat, changing pad, as disposable placemats at restaurants – basically anyway you could think of.

Summer SwaddleMe Adjustable Infant Wrap in Sage – value: $10

I’ve been looking for a swaddling suit/blanket like this! I think it’ll be way easier for my husband and I than trying to only use swaddling blankets. Especially if it’s in the middle of the night, I feel like velcro just makes the process easier.

BabyBin Subscription Box Review - June 2015 - items 8

Pampers Softcare Babyfresh Wipes 7x box – 504 count, value: $11

A parent can never have enough wipes, right? I thought it was great for them to include a whole box’s worth instead of just a pack or two!

The Verdict: For my first BabyBin, I think they definitely included some great basics and essentials! As far as prices for each item goes, I found them to generally be right on with what I could find them for at Babys R Us or Amazon. The only difference, to me, would be that you could possibly coupon to get items cheaper at retailers, but I often don’t get around to every successfully doing that, personally.. I love the concept, and I like the convenience – it’s like shopping online without having to pay for the items until you get to have them in your hands!

What do you think about BabyBin?

Haley,
Although I have thought about it many times, I realized that I have never formally said “CONGRATULATIONS”!!! You deserve a million dollars for having to carry “baby boy” for your last few months during this horrendous heat. Try to have a relaxing few weeks/months before the real fun begins and make sure we know when your extra special delivery arrives!

I used the Gerber 3-ply pre-folded cloth diapers for burping cloths for my kids which several of my friends recommended to me at the time. Thick, absorbent, easy to clean, inexpensive. Highly recommended. 🙂

I was also going to recommend the pre-folded diapers. They are the best! Some people sell embellished ones if you want to be more fancy 🙂 After the babies grew I liked them for gym sweat towels. They are soft and absorbent and easy to clean and a good size. Best wishes!

I do the same thing! You can get a huge pack at Target or Amazon very cheap. I have to say I got the Noise Frida and it worked great while my little girl was itty bitty. It still works, but at eight months she squirms, so it’s a team effort so I don’t poke her in the eye. If you do get a bulb, make sure it opens for cleaning, because otherwise mold grows. Nose Frida is much more hygienic. Swaddle Me are great! We used them every night until she leaves you Houdini out of them.

Learned to Houdini.

I completely support all the comments on the Nose Frida… KEEP IT. its a life saver and very easy to use compared to the old school bulb. its one of the Hygienic things you will use. those bulbs are a pain in the …. I sincerely hope you don’t have to, but sometimes in the middle of the night you just don’t have the energy and calm.

I agree! Keep the nose frida – or like us you’ll end up buying it at a higher price at CVS (yes! it is now available in CVS) or whole foods.
Having said that – I have not used it much for my daughter (8 month old). I did use it a lot for my son though. Don’t worry- it is hygienic! You keep changing the filters (so it gets expensive too).

Congrats on the baby!!

Oh and my favorite wipes are Honest wipes. I use those along with seventh generation wipes ( which are cheaper and nice too)

KEEP THE NOSE FRIDA!!! My pedi recommending it (sadly, for baby 4 – it wasn’t around for the first three) and it was a lifesaver!!!

Also for the swaddled blanket, I had that one too and I didn’t like the Velcro. It was cumbersome and loud and wasn’t great to wash either.

This one was a lifesaver plus there’s no Velcro

Thanks, Jenny! I did a lot of research/review-reading for each item to help determine what I’ll keep, and I came to the same conclusion – I think I’ll send this swaddle blanket back and find something else, like the one you suggest!

Seriously, keep the nose freida. The last thing you want to do when your newborn is completely plugged up is shove one of those old school bulb snot suckers up his little nose. The nose freida rests on the outside and it’s completely trauma free. I used it for the first year and it was a lifesaver. It’s not gross, you don’t get any snot in your mouth or anything. This is one of those items when you need it, you are desperate and you want to have it on hand.

Congrats on your first baby! I’m preg with my first too due the end of November 🙂

Yes keep the Nose Frida!! There is a filter and the snot will never make it that far up anyway. As gross as it sounds you really will appreciate it when you are able to help clear up your babies nose.

I have the grass (drying rack) and love the grass. These prices seem fair.

Note: as an alternative to burp cloths, you could use lap pads or receiving blankets. I found burp cloths to usually be too small.

Anna

Keep the snot sucker!!! Believe me, if you get freaked put that your baby can’t breathe, you don’t want to know what kind of mama instincts might kick in!

And big congratulations! Boys are soooo fun!

Laura

I second Anna, Haley, keep the nose snot sucker. My baby had so much mucus and build up in her nose/sinuses that I was using it daily for a few months after she was born. If personally love Honest diapers and wipes, I find they’re great and they’re healthier than Pampers/Huggies (IMHO). Congratulations!

Vanessa

I think the prices are very fair on these items. Sounds like a great service.

Congrats on the baby. I had my first in February and those swaddles are a must, it really helped in the first months. I also got alot of samples and still use them to decide what I like best, it is much better to get the travel/sample size since you don’t know which you will like best.

I love the Burt’s Bees diaper rash cream! The velcro swaddle sacks were also really helpful for us.

Congratulations Haley!

I also said I would never use a Nose Frida, and then I saw what one of those blue bulbs looks like when you cut it open after it has been used for a while. It was full of mold. I am now a convert!
