Urthbox included a card with information about how to earn member points and a magnet from Brownie Brittle.
Brownie Brittle (1 oz)- $1
Sadly, my bag of brownie brittle is not brittle at all. I’m not sure if it’s stale because of a tiny hole in the bag or because it’s out of date (there’s no date printed on the bag), but it’s very soft and definitely not edible. Luckily, it looks like I'll be able to try it in June's Love with Food Box.
Qancha Corn Snack (1 oz)- Not available for sale online.
Qancha Corn Snacks are made with only three ingredients: heirloom corn, avocado oil, and salt. I think they’re deliciously salty and crunchy.
Seapoint Farms Dry Roasted Edamame (1 oz)- value $.83
The Dry Roasted Edamame is another crunchy roasted snack. Seapoint Farms uses soybeans that are certified non-GMO and roasts them with a bit of salt. Since they’re roasted without oil, these beans are surprisingly low in fat.
Nud Fud Spirulina Banana Crisps (33 g)- Not available for sale online.
These Spirulina Banana Crisps are a great example of why I love subscription food boxes. I would never purchase this snack for fear I wouldn’t like it, but I’m very happy to be able to try it. The crisps are dark green and covered in sesame seeds. The dominant flavor is definitely banana, though the spirulina provides a subtle (though not unpleasant) vegetal taste. Spirulina has a number of reported health benefits, and I think these crisps are a tasty way to introduce a little into your diet.
Dark Angell Organic Candy Bar (1.25 oz)- $1.80
Dark Angell Candy Bars are covered in dark chocolate and have a rich cocoa and almond center. They’re vegan, non-GMO, gluten free, and contain no preservatives. I’m always happy to discover all-natural versions of classic indulgent snacks, and I think this bar is good.
Verdict: I’m a little surprised and disappointed by the value of this month’s Urthbox. Even though I wasn’t able to find two of the products for sale online, I’d guess that the total value of this box is around $6. For the mini box I received, the cost per month is either $19 (with a monthly subscription) or $9 (with an annual subscription), so that’s pretty low. It seems even lower when I consider that my March Urthbox included 8 items and had a value of $14.65. Now, to be fair, the Urthbox website only promises 4-5 items in the mini box, but I think it’s unusual to see such drastic swings in content and value from month to month. I’ve enjoyed my past boxes, so I’m hoping that this month is just a fluke. We’ll see, I guess.
Additionally, I think it’s important to point out that a few subscribers have reported problems with Urthbox customer service, including trouble signing up with vouchers, double billing, and difficulty cancelling subscriptions. I haven’t had any problems so far, but I wanted to raise the issue and invite others to leave feedback about their Urthbox experiences.
