Each box comes with a card that describes the month’s theme and the items in the box. This month’s theme is “Spring in Portland.” Portland is definitely popular amongst subscription boxes!

Tea Box Express Subscription Box Review – May 2015 - items 1

Plum Deluxe Oregon Breakfast Black Tea – 1 oz, value: $7

Plum Deluxe Afternoon High Tea White Tea – 1 oz, value: $7

I was excited when I saw a brand I’m familiar with in this box! I know Plum Deluxe from their own subscription service. I’ve found their teas to be flavorful and I’ve liked just about every one I’ve tried. These 1-oz tea packets make 15-20 cups and all of their teas are organic, fair-trade, and non-GMO. The ingredients listed for the breakfast tea are “Black Tea, Honeybush Tea, Orange Peels, Hazelnut Essence, Love, Gratitude” – a cute reminder to start your day with some good vibes! The white tea sounds really nice and fruity; its ingredients are White Peach Tea, Apricot Pieces, Marigold Petals, Pear Essence.

Bee Local Artisan Honey – 4 oz, value: $7

For some reason I love getting artisan honey in tea subscription boxes. I will never go back to the plastic bear from the store again! This honey just adds a little extra delicious flavor to tea, is raw, single-origin, and gently filtered to help keep it as good for you as possible.

McTavish Lavender Shortbread Minis – 4 oz, value: $3.50

Shortbread anything is usually a win for me. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the lavender in these, but they’re actually really good! They’re definitely best with a cup of tea, naturally, since it really compliments the lavender.

Flower Pot Floating Tea Infuser – value: $12?

I can’t find this infuser online, so I’m estimating the value from similar ones. I think this is really cute! Personally, I don’t prefer novelty tea infusers, but I have a friend who would absolutely love this.

The Verdict: Overall, I liked this month’s Tea Box Express. The value adds up to $36.50, which is a good value for this box. I know I’ll use everything but the infuser, which I know will be loved by a friend of mine, so it’s a win for me.

What do you think about Tea Box Express?

Here is hoping that the tea infuser is on the swap page, and someone will swap with me for it. It looks so nifty! 🙂 This is one subscription I am hoping to get in the future. I just wish it was at a little lower price point. 😉

I LOVE this box. And ran around showing everyone in the office my little potted pansy. My teapots have infusers so I don’t usually use cup-sized ones (I drink tea all day long at work) but this one is so cute it’s in a place of honor on my desk. My only criticism is not of the box but of the Plum Deluxe tea -the flavor was ok (though not subtle to my taste) but the teeny shredded flakes of tea leaves clogged up my diffuser and there were an awful lot of tea branch sticks floating around. That’s (the size of the leaves and the amount of sticks) usually a sign of poor quality tea. For the price they (Plum Deluxe) are charging, especially for a loose-leaf, I would expect better quality. that, or I got the bottom of the barrel and my baggie got run over by a tow truck a few times lol. But this box is so awesome, I’m still mad I missed the December one!

Melissa, it sounds like you’re using too much tea if your diffuser is getting “clogged up.” You want a large enough diffuser that the water can fully envelope the tea to fully steep.

I’d have to check with the company but one of the teas featured in the box looks like a Fujian white, which always has a high stem count. If it didn’t have a lot of stems that would be an indicator of low quality, in fact.

Sorry to be a bit of a tea geek, just wanted to point that out so you can have the best TBE experience. Loved this one!

What a great box! I’ve been debating whether or not I should give this one a try, but I think I’m officially won over. Great review!

” I will never go back to the plastic bear…”

Love this declaration, Haley! lol

The box sounds wonderful but I just don’t drink tea fast enough to sub to a box of it. I’ll have to stalk these items in the swapper section.

Great review, thanks!

Thanks for introducing me to this subscription, Hayley! I was really hesitant to get this box due to the value of food subscription boxes, but after stalking your reviews for several months I pulled the trigger. And I’m so happy I did! I really enjoy trying the different teas and the tea accessories are so fun! I drink tea daily as it brings me a little moment of peace and joy in an otherwise hectic life, so getting this box just makes tea time even more special for me!
