Pooch Party Packs Subscription Box Review – May 2015 Box

Pooch Party Packs is a subscription box for dogs that sends 4-6 treats, toys, and/or grooming supplies a month.  They typically include at least one item from a small business in each box.

Pooch Party Packs will customize the box for your dog’s size (small: 10-20 pounds, medium: 20-50 pounds, and large: 50+ pounds).  This box is for large dogs.  (For what it’s worth, my dog weighs about 90 pounds and the toys we received were an appropriate size for her.)  Sorry for the ugly black box covering my address but I wanted to show you that the people at Pooch Party Packs wrote my dog’s name in the blank!

Pooch Party Packs Subscription Box Review – May 2015 Card

Every Pooch Party Pack contains an information card with a little information about each included product.  This month’s theme is “Sweets.”  Having received a few of their boxes now, I would say they do a very good job at sticking to the theme.

Pooch Party Packs Subscription Box Review – May 2015 Treats

Puppy Scoops Ice Cream (carob flavor) – Value $6.99

Cheesy Bacon Crack! breakable training treat – Value $2.99

The Puppy Scoops ice cream is made with lactose-free milk.  You add hot tap water, stir, replace the lid, and freeze for five hours.  Nyx loves cold treats and I’m sure this will be a hit.  (She should be coming off her food allergy trial this week, too, so hopefully she can have this soon!)  Apparently this company was featured on Shark Tank?  (I’m kind of out of the loop so I didn’t know this…)

The Cheesy Bacon Crack! is actually two cookies that are scored so you can break them into smaller pieces.  They’re free of wheat, corn, soy, and gluten (the main flour is oat flour).

Both of these treats are made in the USA, from USA-sourced ingredients.

Pooch Party Packs Subscription Box Review – May 2015 Cookies

Locomotion Pet Treats Honey Apple Dog Treats (6 oz.) – Value $2.33

Every month, Pooch Party Packs features an item from a small business.  These cookies are the May small business item.   Locomotion Pet Treats is located in Clarence, NY, and these treats are free of artificial preservatives and supplemented with lots of vitamins and minerals.  There is a “sell by” date on the package of October 2015, which is plenty of time to try them out.

Pooch Party Packs Subscription Box Review – May 2015 Toys

Multipet Strawberry Scented Ice Cream Cone toy – Value $11.64

PrideBites Ice Cream Cone toy – Value $9.99

I didn’t even realize the striped cone was scented (I’m not in the habit of smelling dog toys…).  At any rate, Nyx thinks it’s great.  She did manage to chew the tip of the ice cream part off, although she’s having a harder time destroying the rest of it.  She’s pretty destructive and she’s been at it at least a half hour (which is actually quite a long time for her).

I have a rule of only letting Nyx play with one new toy per day, so the PrideBites toy will be a reward after her vet visit on Tuesday.  It squeaks, is machine washable, and apparently also floats.  It seems well-made so I’m hoping it will last a long time!

Pooch Party Packs Subscription Box Review – May 2015 Nyx

And my gratuitous pet photo for this review!

Verdict: I really like the selection of products in this box.  I think the toys were an appropriate size and choice for a large-breed dog, and I like that the treats are made in the US.  I also like the focus on small businesses and I think the box contents did a good job of matching the theme (“Sweets”).

The total value I calculated ($33.94) is right about the cost of the box.  Of course, if you sign up for a longer term subscription, you come out better.  Since Pooch Party Packs is now offering free shipping, the value has improved over last month.  Also, since a lot of the treats are from smaller producers and not widely available at retail locations, you’d have to order each treat individually and pay shipping, so you’re saving shipping costs here.

For my own dog, this box was a little better than the BarkBoxes I’ve gotten in the past – the toys were more durable and more appropriate for her size and I liked that the treats didn’t include a lot of common dog allergens like chicken, corn, etc.

What do you think of the May 2015 Pooch Party Packs box?

I am SO BUMMED! I just tried to join and the code memorial75 didn’t work ( huge frown). I wanted to try this for my two big pups, our doberman and St. Bernard. Wish the code worked as we spoil pups and would have loved to start subbing with this awesome code. Sad. 🙁

Good evening! We apologize that the code did not work for you! We ran into some issues in the last hour of the sale! Send us an email at support@poochpartypacks and we will still honor the code for you!

Try emailing [email protected] maybe they can do something for you. They were very friendly to me.

I didn’t think i needed a pet box, but now I’m not so sure. My lab would like everything in there. Looks good to me!

This looks promising. I cancelled my Bark Box because they send treats made of rabbits. I do rabbit rescue and this really upset me. I sent a question over to Pooch Party. I love treats from small sourced businesses!

The local business featured this month is close to where I live. These treats are sold at my dogs’ groomer. I buy them often.

Sorry if my comment is repeated, but I need to update anyway. I bought 1 box and immediately emailed to cancel the auto-renewal because I’m one of those people who forget to cancel auto-renewing things. (There isn’t an option to do that on the site, you must email) I got a reply within minutes, yes minutes not days, and while that might not be the case every day, at least it shows they care about their customers. After the kind and fast reply, we are sticking around for a couple of months. Aside from beauty products, spoiling my dog is my favorite thing anyway.

I’m wondering if this company is affiliated with sudsy box? When I typed my email in, my tablet auto typed my info from my sudsy box account. Also, it’s really neat that Nyx’ s name was on the box but I wasn’t prompted to enter my dogs name. Did I miss something?

I think they got Nyx’s name from the review I posted last month.

Also, both Pooch Party Packs and Sudsy Box use the Cratejoy platform to handle subscriptions. I think that’s why you got the auto-fill. (Lots of boxes use this. It’s a system that handles things like sign-ups and payment processing.)

My favorite part of reading the pet box reviews is seeing the pictures of pets! Nyx is adorable.

Thanks. Hopefully I will be able to start posting cat pictures soon, too!

Based on your review, I decided to sign up for a 3 month subscription. I really like that they find small US pet businesses and feature one each month. The treats seem to have limited allergens which is great for my boy- he is part Basset Hound and did inherit some food allergies. I was also able to take advantage of the 75% off coupon which brought the cost of my first 3-month subscription down to just under $70!

Nyx is adorable, so cute with her new toy. I’m glad she’s coming off restriction soon and hope she can enjoy her treats. I’ll have to keep this on the list to try, once our Barkbox subscription runs out, as I haven’t been too thrilled with them. The toys don’t seem to be big enough for my Lab, although he’s very easy on his toys and doesn’t seem to care they are a bit small. Just heard Petflow is canceling their Spoiled Rotten Box, so may pick this one up to replace it eventually.

Going to try it. My first box is only $8.75. So nothing really to lose on this one. MEMORIAL75. Thanks, Ragan. Good review.

Oh thank heavens – definitely adding this box to my Wish List. I had Barkbox for four months (Nov 2014 – Feb 2015) and NONE of the toys lasted. That’s right – of the toys my dog actually played with and didn’t reject, ALL of them broke due to shoddy stitching within a month. My dog is large but not overly destructive with his toys (as is evidenced by him having toys I’ve bought at TJ Maxx that have lasted an entire year). I’m also super excited about Made in U.S.A. dog treats. I just don’t trust the stuff that comes in from other countries who don’t value health and pets as much as we in the States do.

If your dog is really destructive, there is pretty much no toy that will stand up to him/her. Trust me on this. Although the ones I have gotten from this box have been pretty good so far.

Anyway, I sent this review to Liz before I got an e-mail from the folks at Pooch Party Packs, so I thought I would put this in a comment:

If you use coupon code MEMORIAL75 before Memorial Day, you will get 75% off your first box.

Hi Ragan,
I’m wondering why there are no other reviews for this sub. I only see ones for April and May. I was interested in potentially getting a pack for my 2 pooches.
