Paleo Life Box Subscription Box Review - May 2015 - Card

Paleo Life Box included a card detailing the items in the box.

Paleo Life Box Subscription Box Review - May 2015 - Granola

Cacao Nut Granola by Paleo People (5 oz)- value $5.50

Paleo People Granola is grain-free, gluten-free, and paleo friendly. Last month, I tried the Banana Nut Crunch thanks to this box and really liked it, so I was happy to try another flavor. Unfortunately, I think this flavor is just okay. I much prefer the Banana Nut.

Paleo Life Box Subscription Box Review - May 2015 - Epic

Epic Bison Bacon Cranberry Bar (1.5 oz)- value $2.50

I’ve never in my life tried a product like this before, so I definitely have to give points to Paleo Life Box for introducing me to something new. According to the Epic website, this bar is a “modern-day take on a Plains Indian staple food known as pemmican.” It’s a mix of bison meat, bacon, and cranberries. I’m not sure this is the kind of snack I would eat regularly (I tend not to crave meaty snacks), but I like it. The sweetness of the cranberries pairs well with the meat, and I think there’s something about the flavor combination and packaging that make this bar feel high-end.

Paleo Life Box Subscription Box Review - May 2015 - Coco

Coco-Roons by Wonderfully Raw (6.2 oz)- value $7.99

Coco-Roons are organic, paleo, gluten-free, and vegan, and I’d describe them as a macaroon/brownie hybrid snack. They’re soft, chewy, and coconutty, but I find their flavor a little lacking. I don’t dislike them, but I won’t be ordering more.

Paleo Life Box Subscription Box Review - May 2015 - Turkey

Free Range Turkey Snack Sticks by Nick's Sticks (1.7 oz)- value $3.25

I received this exact item in last month’s Paleo Life Box. According to the info card, I should have received the beef variety, instead. I enjoyed this item last month, so it will get eaten, but I’m disappointed I don’t get to try something new.

Paleo Life Box Subscription Box Review - May 2015 - Caveman

Mayan Caveman Cookies (2- 16g. cookies)- value $1.90

Caveman cookies seem to pop up in Paleo boxes quite a bit. (The Rainforest flavor was featured in last month’s Paleo Life Box.) Unfortunately, they’re not really a favorite of mine. I like their chewy texture, but the flavor just isn’t for me. I have a few friends who adhere to a strict Paleo diet (and love these cookies), so I’ll pass them along to a good home.

Paleo Life Box Subscription Box Review - May 2015 - Simple

Organic Sage Snack Bar by Simple Squares (1.6 oz)- value $2.50

Simple Squares Bars are paleo, organic, non-GMO, gluten free, and contain only five ingredients. I received the coconut flavor in last month’s Paleo Life box and enjoyed it. I think I like the sage even better!

Paleo Life Box Subscription Box Review - May 2015 - Biltong

Biltong by Braaitime (4 oz)- value $6.50

Biltong has been popping up in food boxes a lot lately, it seems. For those who aren’t familiar with Biltong, it’s a traditional South African snack of thinly sliced cured meat. This particular product is flavored with salt, vinegar, black pepper, and coriander.

Verdict: I like that Paleo Life Box sends full-sized paleo snacks. Like last month, not all of the products were a hit with me, but that’s just a matter of personal preference. In terms of value, if I don’t factor in shipping costs, this box breaks even. That’s not terribly unusual for a food box, but when the value isn’t great I like to see strong curation or the inclusion of delicious products that are new to me. Since the majority of the items in this box were from the same brands featured last month, I didn’t get to discover a lot of new paleo foods. This is only the second Paleo Life Box, though, so I hope to see more variety in future boxes. All that said, for a brand new subscription, I think Paleo Life Box is doing a lot of things right. If they can increase their product variety, I think this will be a great box for paleo dieters in search of new paleo-friendly snacks.

What do you think of Paleo Life Box?

I love Biltong by Braaitime!!! I got introduced to them at a chocolate fest ironically but I love their product and the fact they are about 30 mins from me is a nice perk! Nice to see them getting out there…wonder if the Paleo box is NJ based…?

Seems like there is a food box for nearly every diet. Except plain old vegetarian. (Sometimes I would like cheese or eggs or honey but I feel limited to vegan boxes so I can actually consume all the items.)

Thanks for trying everything out for us!

Agreed 🙁 I’m not a vegan but I’ve been a vegetarian for 12 years. I just want a nice box like this with good sizes! Graze was a huge disappointment

August will be 22 years for me as a vegetarian. I think it’s safe to say I’m sticking with it…

If I had the time, I’d totally do a Kickstarter to get money and just start a box myself. Alas, with a move and eventually a wedding coming up, it won’t happen this year.
