New Geek Subscription Box: FanMail Box

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

New Geek Subscription Box

FanMail Box is a brand new geeky subscription box! This one caught my eye because it is founded by two women who saw a need in the geek subscription box category. From the About Us page: “I’d subscribed to other geek subscription boxes and found them lacking. Some of my favorite TV shows and movies, whose audiences generally consist of women, were excluded. I wanted a box that included items like jewelry, tote bags, and nail decals, as well as action figures and comics. I wanted to create a box for women like me!”

The Subscription Box: FanMail Box

The Cost: $21.99 plus shipping (shipping to Pittsburgh PA was $5.76)

The Products: FanMail boxes contain a variety of memorabilia and collectibles, some old, some new, some handmade, some fanmade. Among the items you may find are exclusive comics and t-shirts, jewelry, stationery, books, autographs, photos and much more. And each month, you’ll get a handy pop culture newsletter that will tell you what movies are coming out, what’s up for streaming and binging, and what conventions or events are out there that you may want to attend.

What do you think of FanMail Box? Would you like to see it reviewed? (Also – if anyone is interested in helping me out with geeky subscription box review – shoot me an email!)

  1. Got my box today… I have to say that this is one of my new favorite boxes. I am so glad that I took a leap of faith and subscribed to this. If they keep up the boxes like this then I will be a subscriber for life!!!

  2. Got my box today and love it!

    • What’s in the box?!?!?

  3. I have no willpower. I ended up subscribing to this box for my birthday! Can’t wait for my first FanMail!

  4. I totally agree that they need more geeky boxes/subscriptions. I mean I don’t ALWAYS want to wear a MENS(!!!!) cut shirt!! I mean we are WOMEN!!!!! LET US WEAR A SHIRT FOR WOMEN!!! Maybe it’s just me but geez!!!

  5. FYI – for all credit card users, the charge came under a different name. I called FanMail customer service and they were outstanding! Looking forward to this new subscription for us GEEK GIRLS

    • THANK YOU! I’d been racking my brain trying to find this thread and couldn’t remember the name of the box. I wanted to swap Ash over to this from 1UP. I already added her to “Gamer Girl”. Liz, I’ll make sure to send you opening up that one.

      • U r welcome! Glad I could be helpful

  6. I was really excited for this and going to sign up until I realized that their site doesn’t have any encryption or security features on the page where you enter all your information. Call me superstitious but I’m not entering my credit card information on a site without any security features. I’m pretty bummed. I’ve been waiting for a box like this.

  7. Signed up!! 😀

  8. Signed up! 😀

  9. Awesome Sauce!!! This reminds me of another geeky jewelry subscription “fandom of the month” that I’ve been dying to get -Its a uk box I believe.

    • I have Fandom of the Month and i am in California. It is a geeky jewelry subscription

      • I have it and I’m in New Jersey I think Fandom of the Month is somewhere in Nebraska area the girl runs it with her sister(s) mom and I think but that’s just what I get off her Instagram

  10. Okay, I’m in! I may also be the oldest Geekette @ 55 but here’s to keeping young at heart ❤️

    • Back at ya, @Natlovesmelody! I’m 55 too. A friend once accused me of being possessed by a ten year old boy. lol Sometimes I look around my house and think she might be right!

Can’t wait to get the first box!

      • LOL, Thanks for the reply – back…..nice to know I am not alone!

  11. I signed up & I’ve NEVER done that without at least one spoiler photo. I really hope this box is awesome! $9 shipping to No Cal. I’m scerd.

  12. This sounds amazing. I also am hesistant without a spoiler though. Id love for this to be reviewed and I would also love stuff from Wheadons shows. He has such great female characters. Im not really into jewelry, but Ill take it if the overall box is great. I love this concept

  13. Drat! I just tried to sign up and got the “Unable to communicate with the payment system” error. 😛

    • The website said they were having issues with & would post on fb when fixed. But in the message on here, the one girl was told it was fixed. I’ve been waiting to sign up b/c of that, but I don’t want them to sell out before they fix it! Could the CS person who’s been posting on here give us some insight on this?

      • Yep, that was why I tried signing up. I hope they get this issue resolved soon! 🙂

      • I emailed their customer service and they ran it manually (somehow) within the hour. You might want to do the same.

        • I was able to sign late last night/early this morning with no issues! So excited! Can’t wait til June!

    • Hi Tamara (and everyone else!)

Rose from FanMail here! Our system is indeed up and running again – if you tried last night and got an error, you should have gotten an email from me giving you the green light to try again!

You all have been amazingly patient with us, and I appreciate it!

  14. So, that didn’t take long. The hubs said YESSSSSSS! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO! I’m so excited to see what I’m going to get. Liz, you should definitely review this box, forgot to mention that before. Thanks for letting us know about this new fabulous subscription! You rock my socks!

    • 🙂 I’ll sign up too!

  15. Let me tell you about my experiences with customer service so far…

I emailed CS about the error in payment as well as to comment about getting larger shirt sizes. Oh, and to ask a question about a password issue because FanMail is a CrateJoy merchant like some of my other sub boxes.

I received a response in less than an hour and it addressed all my issues. David (yes, they do have at least one male employee!) quickly processed my payment. He told me they’d been having issues today but think they are now resolved.

He told me where to find my CrateJoy boxes (turns out I have five others that go through CrateJoy) and I got that fixed right away.

Most impressively though, he was very open to the idea of getting larger sizes. He is going to check with their t-shirt providers and see if this is possible. He said they were probably too far along in production for this month but maybe next month it could happen. And he assured me that he would get in touch with me as soon as he knew the answer.

All in all we went back and forth about three times. Each time his emails were prompt and on point. So far, I’m impressed.

I’m going month to month to start simply because of the t-shirt issue. If that’s a large part of the value each month then it doesn’t really do me much good. But if the other goodies are impressive enough then I can always swap the shirt! BTW, shipping to New Mexico was 9.00.

    • Correction…the man was named Mark not David. David is my nephew. Sigh….love these senior moments!

  16. I WANT, no *NEED* this box. I was a subscriber to Loot Crate for a short time, but aforementioned above, it always seemed more toward boys. I’m so curious to see what’s in the June box (maybe ONE official spoiler, please? Lol). I just have to convince the hubs that $7.70 in shipping is worth it. He was like ‘go for it’, until I said how much shipping was. BUT, I have ways of convincing him. Cross all of your fingers for me!

  17. Aww man, it is $7.70 in shipping to my house! I guess I will stalk the reviews before deciding to jump into a subscription.

  18. Oh man, I might have to check this one out!

  19. I’ve never subscribed to a box before its first box before. But for THIS – I’m probably in. I haven’t checked out the site yet, but chances are I’m going for it.

    SO. Excited! At last!!

    (P.S. I hope to see plenty of Buffy/Whedon!! :D)

  20. I’d definitely love to see this reviewed, and maybe even try the first box. ‘Fantasy’, is a genre I absolutely love!

  21. This looks like a very promising box! I’d love to see a few reviews of it in the future, especially since it seems it will feature different things that other geek boxes might not have.

  22. It would be great to get a spoiler before signing up…

  23. Ah! I am so excited to see a box like this out there!!! I have been a geeky gamer girl my whole life and this is just so much fun! It felt like for so long we girls have been ignored or pushed to the side, but now we get to shine a little as nerds, geeks, and lovers of Fandom.

I always am trying to get my soap-box message out there that you can be anything you want to be, you can be a nerdy geeky girl and yet still be girly!!!

I sent you an email too Liz ^_~

    • “you can be a nerdy geeky girl and yet still be girly!!!”

I agree with 100%!! (I’d say 1000%, but that’s a nonsensical term.) I too have been preaching this sentiment for years. 😀

  24. I tried to sign up on the website and received the following error:

Error processing checkout: Unable to communicate with the payment system.

  25. I also consider myself a geek, but not a gamer. My boys are gamers and geeks, so I do know some about the gaming world. I am interested to see what this box has in store for women.

    • Liz, I sent you an email.

  26. Hello, I have a “dumb” question. Does a “geek” box have to be a “gamer” box? Is that what geek means for these subs? I ask b/c I consider myself a geek but I don’t play video games. (Although I do like / appreciate old school games such as Pac-Man, Frogger, Q-Bert, Donkey Kong – Atari references basically… before games got to diffcult/compicated for me!)

I love TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Walking Dead, Battlestar Gallactica (2000s version), Lost. I love fantasy / sci-fi novels, horror / thriller movies (Silence of the Lambs! Nightmare on Elm Street!!), the new Star Trek movies, The Hobbit / Lord of the Rings movies, Harry Potter books & movies, all things supernatural, etc.

I would love to see a review of this box to see if it’s for me… or maybe someone needs to create a “fantasy / supernatural” box for non-gamers. 🙂

    • Hello! (This is Rose from FanMail)

While we do have some “gamer” items, our boxes are meant for those who enjoy pop culture as well!

All the TV shows, etc that you listed are things that I love as well (and while I consider myself a gamer, my co-founder is not!) so we will make sure to have things that everyone who loves pop culture will be glad to own!!

Our June theme is “Fantasy” but we will have a range of themes that might cover some of the shows you mentioned above!! (Does that count as a spoiler???? :P)

      • I’ll take that semi-spoiler any day! Yay, thank you! You just talked me into buying this box – you’re quite the Sales Person!

      • Ok, since Rose popped her head up…

Old shows and movies that had great female leads that I would love to see you cover include: Aliens, any of the women from Firefly, women of new BSG, women of Trek, Scully of X-files, women of Babylon 5, women of Farscape, Sarah Connor of Terminator fame, and all the women of Walking Dead.

        • Good morning Loretta!!

Your list inspires me, and I’m happy to say that we are thinking along the same lines. 😛

Though it will depend on the month’s theme, some of the women and shows you’ve mentioned may be making their way into future boxes.

Sometimes a good throwback to older shows is what really works! Keep an eye out, our themes get announced on the first of every month!!

  27. I love this idea! I’ve felt the same way for a while. I had Nerd Block Jr for Girls a while, but it was never really that great because half the box wasn’t a good fit for us. My daughters and I would really like a geeky box that’s actually geared towards girls by girls. I want to see the first few months to get a feel for it.

  28. As a female gamer, I’ve always felt underrepresented. Geeky boxes and I have decided to see other people, after realizing that we just weren’t meant for each other.

I am not a male, nor am I a child, both of which seemed to be required in order to thoroughly enjoy geeky boxes. The vast majority of the items ended up being gifted (my 83yr old grandfather was most appreciative-that whole manchild thing applies to all age ranges, it seems).

My dream box would be a true gamer box. You know, actual games. A new one every month based on your tastes. Even allowing for randomization, as I tend to get the same type of games, and do like to get out of my comfort gaming zone from time to time. I have a whole idea of what I want out of something like this, but have absolutely no desire to pursue it, hoping that someone will chop chop get to creating. Until then, this new sub sounds like something that I can get behind.

I am hesitant to sub to a brand new box until I see some reviews, but I’m definitely debating. I just don’t want to end up with a bunch of pins or tattoos or nail decals or keychains, none of which are fun or useful to me personally. And I really don’t think my grandfather wants stuff like that, either. Though, who knows. He still rocks a pair of purple teenage mutant ninja turtles sunglasses I gave him from out of a Loot Crate last year. Eh, manchild.

    • Your grandpa sounds like a fun guy! 🙂

    • I just need to say I love your game sub idea!

  29. A Geek Box for girls?! I’m all over that, for sure!

    • Cratejoy has another one they are just opening up called “Gamer Girl”.. I already ordered it for my gaming 14 year old cause she was jumping up and down when she saw some spoilers, LOL.

  30. I would love to see a review!

  31. Add my vote as wanting to see a review! I’m definitely intrigued, but hate to jump in to a new sub blind.

  32. I would love to see a review of this box! I always read your reviews before purchasing a box and this one sounds pretty cool.

  33. Over $7 to get it shipped to me. I’ll give them a shot for at least a month 🙂

Seems to be affiliated with CineQuest.com – my receipt/purchase confirmation/welcome emails came from a @cinequest.com email address.

  34. So tempted! My 10-year old and I are both Fantasy fans.

  35. I would love to see a review of this before I buy it as I already get loot crate for my general geeky needs and fandom of the month for my geek jewelry and I’m running out of both jewelry box and shelf room

  36. I tried to sign up and it says that I already have an account to another CrateJoy merchant and I should use that log-in. Yet it doesn’t tell me what that other box is! I’ve emailed them for assistance. We’ll see how well their customer service works. 🙂

I also asked them to consider larger t-shirt sizes.

  37. I’m SO tempted to sign up for this box!!! I’ve wanted to try geeky boxes, but like the ‘about us’ I’ve found that a lot of them are geared towards fellas more than ladies. The items I’ve seen in all the boxes looked interesting but nothing ever “popped” out at me in them either.
Hm… decisions, decisions. Shipping is $6.96 to Harrison, Ohio.

On the shirts, if for some reason I needed to change the size (if I do sign up) would that be possible within our account page? I wear anything from a L to an XXL and I never know which fit I’d like better til I try them on.

    • Hey Valerie! This is Rose from FanMail!! 🙂

If after your first box, you’re not happy with your t-shirt size, you can absolutely log into your account and change it for the future months!

      • Hey, Rose!! Thank you for the reply. That’s awesome news! Another question, will there be spoilers/extra boxes at some point? I want to jump and sub to the box (as Fantasy is one of my favorites) but at the same time, don’t want to take the gamble without having some hints at least. :)) I second (or third) the person that mentioned Buffy/Whedon items! I’m obsessed with Whedon shows, as well as Supernatural (the show) and all things supernatural lmao.

  38. I’d love to see this box reviewed!

  39. I sent you an email about reviews on Geeky boxes Liz 🙂

  40. Blah, shipping to Las Vegas is 9 bucks. Oh, well, I’m still getting it!

    • I’m in Las Vegas, also. I just can’t bring myself to spend almost 50% extra for shipping with no spoilers or reviews or coupon codes. I’m just not brave enough. Lol I can’t wait to see reviews!

  41. I’m on my second month of Loot Crate- but I don’t really ‘get’ everything in the box. It seems a little more geared towards boys or gamers (although I really like the t-shirts). I would LOVE to see reviews of this box & I think it’s a great idea to make a geeky box for women! Also, we need spoilers!!

    • i have noticed Loot Crate and Nerd Block are both largely geared towards males. I would love a geek box tailored for women! 🙂
