Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon - May 2015 - Box

Gwynnie Bee is a clothing rental subscription service for women sizes 10-32. I have been intrigued with their concept for a while because I think plus-sized clothing is sorely underrepresented in the subscription box market. I have been really happy to have an opportunity to try them out!

Gwynnie Bee kindly invited me to try their service for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon - May 2015 - Dotted Dress

LONDON TIMES – Elbow Sleeve Ruched Dress

This dress was super fancy! It fit great and was flattering, too. The chiffon layer made it feel super feminine, too.

Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon - May 2015 - Courtney

TART COLLECTIONS – Courtney Dress In Blurred Lines

This dress was also very flattering, and I enjoyed the cheerful spring palette!

Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon - May 2015 - Houndstooth

KAREN KANE – Printed Houndstooth Dress

If you look at the model on the GB website, this dress looks so flattering and sexy. In reality, the color contrast is not as vivid, and it’s pretty dumpy on. Also the material was a bit too thick for comfort in late spring. I was disappointed with this one.

Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon - May 2015 - Jacket

CITY CHIC – Scarf Print Longline Jacket

This, on the other hand, I absolutely LOVED! I love the Asian print, and the side panels are very slimming. I seriously considered buying this piece!

Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon - May 2015 - Iris

IGIGI – Iris Blouse In Stripe

This is another piece that looked kind of cool on the model, but when I got it in my hands it was a bit of a trainwreck. It has a very matronly cut, along with having a tie in the front. It’s super flowy. Then the pattern is really cool and futuristic. Then the V is way, way too low. This shirt just doesn’t know what it wants to be.

Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon - May 2015 - Nebula

TRISTE – Helix Nebula V-Neck Tunic

This top was a pleasure to wear! It was soft, fit well, and hit exactly right at the hip, arm, and bust. The material was a little thick (it’s getting hot here), but not too much. I also really love space prints!

Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon - May 2015 - Etched

TRISTE – Etched Pastel Shift Dress

This was my favorite piece all month! It was comfortable yet flattering, and there’s something about the print I totally loved! I hated to send this one back – it’s another one I seriously considered buying!

Gwynnie Bee Review + Free Month Coupon - May 2015 - Moon

NIC + ZOE – Moon Dust Top

This top was really cool looking. I absolutely loved the print. The weird thing, though, is that I thought it was one of those mock twinsets where the cardigan and shell are sewn together, but it’s not. It’s just a regular top that drapes that easy! So it was extra roomy and comfortable. Not incredibly flattering, though.

The Verdict: I received eight pieces this month, and due to some travel I wasn’t completely focused on the receive-wear-return-instantly method I had been doing last month. April is still my PR with Gwynnie Bee – 11 pieces in one month. It’s hard to speak of value with a rental service, but $70 is certainly cheaper than buying eight pieces, even at a deep discount. I would probably take advantage of their purchase program more often, except I get bored with clothing pretty quickly, so renting for me is a perfect solution! I also wanted to see what it would take to actually receive a blouse or jacket instead of all dresses like I did last month! I removed all but two or three dresses from my closet this month, and I got all the dresses. BUT I finally got some tops! I really liked (or loved) most of the pieces this month. Gwynnie Bee is working out really well for me!

  1. by the way at $150 I would NOT buy lol

  2. Thanks for posting about this! I’ve been so curious about them. But it does sound really dress-oriented and I’m not a big dress person. It’s interesting to see a couple brands I hadn’t heard of, though. 🙂

    • I was the winner of the three-month subscription and have really enjoyed it, but probably won’t keep it after then just because it’s so dress-oriented. I have found a lot of great tops, however, and have found a brand that I love – Karen Kane. I’ve already bought one top and am seriously considering buying one I have now – it’s pricier than I’d like (close to $50), but it looks so good on me and makes me feel so good that I think it may be worth it.

      • Winning three months sounds like a great way to try out the service! 😉

I might try them out one of these days if they still have the first month free deal, just to find some new brands, etc, like you did.

  3. Have you considered reviewing plvshstyle? I really want to see a review before I try them, but no one has reviewed them that I can find.

    • I didn’t even know about them! Just looked at their site. I’m intrigued but it’s a little spendy. Agree that I’d like to see at least one review before taking the plunge.

  4. Hiya – a couple of questions
    1) were you able to choice dresses, blouses pants etc?
    2) what are the purchase prices?

I love some of the things but if they are $150 each then I would buy

    thanks!

    • Hi Kim!

You choose lots of items and they send what’s available. Purchase price varies, up to about 60% off retail, and sometimes they have sales. The last few items have been between 40-50 dollars. Hope this helps!

      Anna
