Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon - April 2015 Theme

This month’s theme is Green Thumb! It’s all about plants, and bugs, and springtime! I am really appreciating all the spring kids’ boxes because they all encourage the kids to get outside and play! This little pamphlet is filled with fun facts about the great outdoors.

Surprise Ride included an info card that lists out the contents of the package. This box is really packed with goodies!

Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon - April 2015 Book

Ace Lacewing: Bug Detective by David Biedrzycki – Value $8.15

Have I mentioned that I LOVE it when the kids get books in their boxes? This is a really cute book, and another 5-star winner!

Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon - April 2015 Dancing Bug

Solar Powered Dancing Lady Bug – Value $6.50

Pardon my blurry photograph, but this little ladybug does not want to sit still! My seven-year-old loves this! It’s a solar powered toy, so no batteries required. The ladybug dances while the sun shines! This is so adorable.

Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon - April 2015 Plentils

Enjoy Life Plentils, Dill and Sour Cream – Value $3.96

I don’t think we’ve ever received a snack in a kids’ box before! Healthy snacks are a great inclusion! I have a rule with healthy foods: the kids MUST try them, but they don’t have to eat them if they don’t like them. We all tried them. Long story short, the dogs were the main beneficiaries of this particular treat, but I do appreciate the thought!

This month’s Surprise Ride also included materials and instructions for two crafts. I thought everything in this picture was going to be used in the crafts, but I was mistaken. The packet of seeds at the top is a combination of herb seeds. I plan to give my seven-year-old a little corner of our garden to plant these and see what happens! Otherwise, these are all materials for the two crafts.

Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon - April 2015 Plant Buddy Instructions

Our first craft was creating a “Plant Buddy”. These are the instructions. You may be wondering what a Plant Buddy is…

This is a Plant Buddy! To the untrained eye, it may look like a bunch of dirt stuffed into a stocking with features pinched and glued on. What you may not know is that at the tip of the stocking is a bunch of grass seeds, so in a few days, it will be growing lush, green hair! How cool is that?

Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon - April 2015 Wind Chime Instructions

Our second project was to decorate some garden wind chimes! I absolutely love garden ornaments of all kinds! And I’m so happy anytime I have the chance to share gardening with the kids.

Surprise Ride Subscription Box Review + Coupon - April 2015 Wind Chime

My seven-year-old decorated these wind chimes and they turned out fabulous! The wind-chime was pre-made with a wooden base, so my son just had to add the mosaic pieces and glue them on. He is really into making patterns with colors right now, so we both really enjoyed this project. It makes the sweetest, tiniest tinkling sound in the breeze!

Verdict: Two green thumbs up for Surprise Ride! We loved it! I love spending time with my boys, and we got some good quality crafting time together, plus the promise of sharing the gardening experience in the near future. The crafts also turned out great and will be fun to have, not just fun to do. The book, toy, and snack were all great additions to the box! The value of those things only adds up to about $18 or so, but so much more is included in this box! I definitely feel like the value is abundant. The only disappointment in the box was that our pink spray bottle that would be used to mist the Plant Buddy doesn’t work. I am probably the only one who was really disappointed because I needed a good spray bottle! Compared to everything else in Surprise Ride, though, it’s pretty minor. This box was a huge success!
