Every Olfactif box contains an informational card detailing the fragrances and theme for the month. This month’s theme is “British Invasion!” which talks about how British perfumers, new and old, are coming back onto the scene recently.

There are a couple things that are very important to keep in mind when sampling perfumes: First, perfumes literally smell different on every person due to the way the fragrance oils play with an individual’s body chemistry. Secondly, there are many notes in each fragrance and perfumes are designed with a story and progression of notes in mind. The top notes are what you smell right away, the middle notes are what you smell about 10 minutes after spraying, and then the base note is what you smell about 30 minutes of wearing it and what stays with you throughout the day. Just because you might now love the initial scent doesn’t mean the fragrance won’t settle into something that you may really like.

Centrepiece by 4160 Tuesdays – This fragrance is actually exclusively sold in the U.S. through Olfactif! I really like this fragrance; it’s a floral that’s been sweetened up a little with honey and vanilla, then balanced with cedarwood and musk.I think it’d work great as a summer fragrance.

Jardin Mystique by Friedemodin – This perfume contains notes of cassis buds, bergamot, cut grass, jasmine absolute, lily of the valley, crushed leaves, patchouli, precious woods. Again, I really like this fragrance! It feels very light and springtime-ready. It’s definitely not overpowering and smells really fresh.

Golden Chypre by Grossmith – When I saw cardamom and nutmeg listed in this perfume’s notes, I expected it to be a spicier/heavier fragrance. However, it’s quite the opposite! Its other notes include rose, citrus, geranium, heliotrope, patchouli, vetiver, woods, amber, and musk. On my skin, I can smell the rose most, and this perfume is actually quite floral.

Olfactif Perfume Subscription Box Review – April 2015 - verdict photo

The Verdict: This month turned out to be probably my favorite whole box from Olfactif that I’ve tried! I haven’t encountered too many lighter fragrances in their boxes, and this month was all very easily wearable, light, and fresh. I also think Olfactif does a great job with their subscription: the packaging is really nice and I like that the cost of the box gets attributed to your account as a credit towards a full-size fragrance each month (the credits don’t stack up or carry over each month, though).

After trying a few months of Olfactif, I can say that Olfactif is great for exposing yourself to lots of different scents and it pushes you out of your fragrance comfort zone. Most of their featured perfumes so far haven’t been super sweet, so if you tend to strictly prefer sugary-sweet fragrances, this sub may not be for you. If you like learning more about perfumes, their creators, and the world of fragrance, this is a great box for that.

The April box was so fabulous! Olfactif has become a true Subscription Addiction for me. When I first subscribed I gave away the vials I didn’t care for, but now I just stash them and revisit them. I usually understand them better when I do. Sometimes I find I really like something I didn’t go for the first time around. The curation of this box is priceless for me, out in the suburbs. And, I mean, I’m not even in a snooty suburb. I’m in a “Live Bait” kind of suburb.

I bought a Full Bottle from this collection, and I would have gladly bought a full bottle of each of them if I could have. The Golden Chypre, especially, was out of my reach, but it’s left me with the desire to smell like golden sunlight, and cloves!

Sometimes I think about taking a break from this one, to save a little money, but I think I’d be so bummed out once I missed one – so I can’t. I guess that is the essence of subscription addiction.

BTW the customer service is so good, you just can’t go wrong. This subscription is just too fun to miss. Plus, I don’t know anyone around me who has her choice of tens of high end scents at any given time.

Warning: this will spoil you rotten.

Ive been subscribed to Olfactif for some time now. I usually subscribe to boxes for a few months then cancel for a bit than resubscribe. I really dont like having big bottles of perfume(I either never use them all or i get bored of them). So having smaller sizes helps me out. Anyways I mostly use sample size perfumes or around the 1.7 oz sizes. I can say i liked all the samples Ive gotten from this subscription service. Its true you may smell a scent and be ugh, but once you wear it, it can change your mind about it.

In the March box i believe it was, their was a perfume sample that had the scent of tobacco in it. I first smelled it inside the vial, and thought not bad. However the first time i wore it, i hated it, I could smell the tobacco scent way to much for my liking. So after not wearing it for a while, one day i decided to try it again and this time i actually enjoyed the scent. It was like on this application the tobacco scent wasnt as strong, very weird.

I received the British Invasion Box, and I have yet to try any of them out. However from just smelling the perfumes through the vials, i can tell you that I like all 3. So far and this is without wearing it, I LOVE the smell of the Centrepiece, LIKE-LIKE, the smell of the Golden Chypre, and LIKE the smell of the Jardin Mystique. The Golden Chypre reminds of jean na ta(sp?), that my mom use to wear ( it was a body splash)

I never use the $18 credit, it would be nice if they accumulated though, and also isnt the $18 just for certain perfumes? If it could be used to buy any on the site that be a lot better also.

Well I’m really excited to try out British Invasion box, just trying to use some other perfumes before I dig in.
Whenever I get my olfactif box in the mail is a good day. 🙂

Just ordered a full size perfume from them and the service was top notch. Priority shipping, a hand-written thank you…truly above and beyond. I’m just thrilled I do not like the Golden Chypre by Grossmith because holy $$$.
