Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – April 2015 Box

Julep Maven is a monthly nail polish and beauty subscription box. They make all their own products, so subscribers get a good value each month – over $40 retail worth of product for $24.99 a month.

And, if you sign up for 3-months up front, you get the $19.99 rate.

Each month Julep releases a new collection on the 20th, and you can decide which box you want, you can upgrade to the entire collection, or you can skip that month.

This month I decided to go with the Bombshell box plus a few add-ons.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – April 2015 Polish

Julep Nail Color in Drew – Retail Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Cassidy – Retail Value $14

The nail polish collection this month is the “Paradise Collection,” and all the colors are pretty bold. I went with these shades since they seemed bold but still wearable (and fun for pedis), and I’m happy with them!

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – April 2015 Brow Shades

Julep Don’t Leave Your Brows at Home in Cool Brown – Value $24

Julep Don’t Leave Your Brows at Home in Rich Brown – Value $24 (Add-on)

Julep Don’t Leave Your Brows at Home in Warm Brown – Value $24 (Add-on)

My box this month came with one brow color in my choice of shade. Since I wasn’t sure which shade would be the best, I decided to add two other brow colors as add-ons to my box this month. (Julep lets you add-on products at a discount each month, and if you add 3 or more, you also get a bonus product).

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – April 2015 Brow Color

On one end is the angled brush, and on the other end, is the pot of color. This is described as a brow powder by Julep, but I would consider it more of a colored brow wax. (I prefer this).

I ended up loving the cool brow shade the most for matching my brows, but the rich brown works well too. I’m impressed with the formula as well – it gives really natural-looking brow color, and it is easy to apply. I think this may be one of my favorite Julep makeup products!

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – April 2015 Gel

Julep Lock Down Your Brows – Value $22 (Add-on)

Since I only needed one more add-on product to get a bonus product, I decided to try out Julep’s new brow gel as well. All of Julep’s products are paraben free, and since some eyebrow gels contain parabens, I was hopeful this could be my new go-to brow gel.

I must admit, brow gels are one of those beauty products that all seem kind of the same in performance. So while this isn’t a life-changing brow gel, it works just as good as other brow gels I’ve tried, with a bonus of being paraben-free!

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – April 2015 Lipgloss

Julep Lip Gloss in Vivid – Value $20 (Bonus Item)

This was my bonus item for buying three add-ons this month. I like their lipgloss formula, so I’m happy with this bonus.

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – April 2015 Candy

And each Julep Maven box comes with a little bonus item – usually candy!

Verdict: This month the beauty products are my favorite items in the box! I’m really impressed with their brow powder, and I like every item in the box.

What did you pick from Julep this month? Do you like their brow products?

  1. I just signed up for the free maven box a couple weeks ago and it came really quick and it had nice products in it. I’m not a big nail polish person as I get gel manicures at the salon and rarely/never paint my toenails.

However – I was very happy to see my 50% off coupon and when I discovered there were shades named “Kayla” and “Danielle” I was so excited because my niece is named Kayla Danielle and her birthday is in June. Well I didn’t purchase them in time because when I went back a few days ago those colors are no longer available

    • I got cut off for some reason…lol

I’ll continue: If anyone has Kayla or Danielle and is willing to swap, especially the Kayla color (as she loves purple like me), I would be forever so grateful to you! I’m on Swapidu as ametaldiva and will be setting up a swap account here too thanks to Liz! 🙂

      • I’m not sure what happened when you searched for them, but both Kayla and Danielle are coming up as available when I look on the Julep website. I hope you’re able to get them! 🙂

        • Thanks for letting me know, Ashley, I’ll look again!

  2. Hey ladies, I was just wondering if you had ever used your Julep rewards? I thought I had used mine, but was charged for the products… And accumulated even more rewards… Thanks!

  3. Random question for anyone & everyone:

Do you match your nail polish and your toe polish? Always, sometimes, never?? Trying to decide if I want to mix!

  4. I thought it was a brow powder so I avoided it and got the brow gel which I love. I got the blue and pink nail colors. I also added on the mystery natural beauty box for $19.99 which included 2 gel eyeliners, a go big mascara and a plush pout in almond nude (this color was sold out for a while and I have been wanting it!).
Also, I ordered the mystery box (not the nail polish one) and I got to choose a free color so I chose the other color that I liked from this month collection which is the dark blue violet metallic. Much better to get it free with my mystery box purchase than to add it on to my maven box for $6.99.

    • Did you get your Mystery Box yet? I am curious what is in the makeup box. I have not tried any of Julep’s makeup yet, just a night mask I got in a previous mystery box. So I was going to order this new mystery box.

  5. I got the same box, with warm brown as my eye brow color. I was domesticated for this and it works so good! I added the brow gel and two mystery polishes, because they are cheaper. And I ended up with two more shades from this collection, I was super happy about it because all the shades are beautiful for summer. I also got the vivid lip gloss as my bonus item, I unfortunately don’t like it because it’s kind of brown, but I do love the formula. Overall a great box this month, now I’m just trying to hold off on buying BOTH mystery boxes, sigh.

    • *I meant to say so excited haha

  6. Liz, How much did the add on cost? Like what was your total? I love the box you made and want to see what it would cost to make one too if I sign up!

    • Hi Marissa,

My base box cost $20 (if you pay for 3 months at a time its is $60 total instead of $25/months) plus this month I added on $65 of extras.

      $20 base box:
Don’t leave your brown at home reg price $24
Luxe lip treatment reg price $24
      Plush pout reg price $24

      My add on’s cost $65:
Polish lover upgrade (its the entire polish line for the month 8 full size colors) reg price $$112

      • sorry I didnt finish my $65 upgrades

        so
the 8 polishes from the montly collection
2 additional polishes reg price $28
oxygen bonding base coat reg price $18
plus the same free gift as liz – lip gloss reg price $20

        So for a grand total of $20 base box + 65 upgrades = $85
I have about $246 of product

    • Ah – sorry I forgot to include that in the review. I’ll look up my order info – hopefully it is all itemized. I’ll let you know!

      • Here’s the add-on cost info:

Don’t Leave Your Brows At Home – Warm Brown – $11.99
        Lock Down Your Brows- $9.99

  7. I passed on this month largely because I don’t like brow powders – I definitely would have gotten a box if I had known it was more of a wax/pomade :/

    • Usually the beauty products will be available as add-ons in the next couple of months so you may still get a chance to try them 🙂

  8. Oh goodness, I did the whole mega upgrade thing where you get everything. I’d never done it before, and my bank account hopes I never do it again. lol

I loved all the polish colors so much (hurry up, summer!), I was, at first, only going to do the polish lovers upgrade, but I’ve been in desperate need for brow help (and I didn’t get the brow gel in last month’s Glossybox), so I was going to add the brow products. By the time I added the other things I wanted to the polish lovers upgrade, it was a MUCH better value to do the full upgrade. For, basically, $8 more, I ended up with both new shades of Light On Your Lips, a second shade of Don’t Leave Your Brows at Home and a bottle of the new Oxygen Bonding Base Coat (which I’m wearing right now, so I’m anxious to see if my polish lasts any longer). I also got two free gifts: Lip Gloss in Vivid and Luxe Lip Treatment in Sheer Coral.

If my math is right, I got $332 ($265.60 Maven) worth of products for $93. Even using the Maven value, that’s a 65% discount. Plus, I know I’ll use everything because I picked it out. This is why Julep is my favorite subscription.

  9. I actually missed the window to change or skip my box so I was completely surprised when I received my box. I love the brow product. I think it performs like a pomade…I normally use the Anastasia pomade and I liked this almost if not just as much. I do think I need a different shade but I loved the product and the shade I got is decent enough to wear.

  10. How do you change what comes in your box?

    • Sarah, if I remember correctly, when you go to your account during the Maven Reveal period (20th-24th), there should be an “edit my box” button. You can then skip your box that month, choose any of the other boxes or completely customize your box.

      • Thank you!

      • Is it possible to skip the box and just buy the add ons?

        • No, the add-ons are only available if you take your box.
