Plum Deluxe March 2015 - Box

Plum Deluxe is a monthly tea subscription. Every month, they send you hand-blended teas made from ingredients that are from USDA Organic and Fair Trade certified vendors. They offer two subscription plans: the Casual Sipper (one monthly blend of tea, enough for ~15 cups) and the Daily Cuppa (two monthly blends of tea, enough for ~30 cups). Plum Deluxe also creates custom blends for weddings and special occasions.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Plum Deluxe March 2015 - info

Plum Deluxe also included this sheet, letting us know about some changes they’ve implemented recently. Their basics are all still the same: organic, fair-trade, hand-blended, artisan teas from Portland, Oregon. The new things include the selling of tea accessories (which monthly club members get 15% of), the promotion and highlighting of other small businesses, the inclusion of samples in each month’s batch, and a “tea moments” tasting journal that is sent to all club members for free.

Plum Deluxe March 2015 - items 1

Forest Berry Green Rooibos Tea – 1 oz, value: $6

Oregon Breakfast Decaf Tea – 1 oz, value: $7

This Forest Berry Green Rooibos blend is made with green rooibos tea, raspberry leaves, rose hips, blueberries, hibiscus flowers, apple pieces, cranberries, strawberries, and blue cornflowers. I love how fruity and floral this tea is! It’s great for spring, and I may also try making it into an iced tea.

The Oregon Breakfast Decaf tea is made with honeybush tea, orange peels, hazelnut essence, love, and gratitude. I think the last two ingredients are cute inclusions on the label – especially on a breakfast tea, as a reminder to start the day with love and gratitude.

Plum Deluxe March 2015 - items 2

Tropical Truffle Tea – sample

This tea is made with Ceylon tea, dried coconut, 99% dark chocolate, and natural coconut flavor. This tea is supposed to be romantic. I haven’t brewed it yet, but I love the way the coconut and chocolate smell together! This can definitely be a dessert tea, or just an extra treat for yourself.

Verdict: I really enjoyed this Plum Deluxe delivery. I love knowing that these teas are organic and fair trade, and also that I’m supporting a small business. The packaging is really nice – the hand-stamped pouch is such a great touch and I appreciate that they put a short description and all the ingredients on each pouch. I think all this would also make it a great gift for a friend!

The only thing I struggle with right now is the value, if I’m being honest. The two, 1-oz pouches of tea add up to $13, and the two-teas per month plan costs $18/month – for less than $18 (for $16.50 including shipping, specifically), I could have bought these two teas from their website. You do get the 15% off accessories as a club member, but I don’t think that makes up for the gap to me. I wish they could maybe send 3 oz of tea for that price, or just give me some incentive to get their teas through the membership instead of shopping individually.

I can honestly say that I’ve eagerly tasting the Plum Deluxe teas for months now, and they have never let me down! They always taste fresh and delicious, and I’m perfectly happy spending ~$7/oz for quality, organic, fair-trade, and locally-sourced tea as opposed to spending the same or more for other companies whose products can’t make the same claims. For me and my family (and the co-workers who are constantly filching my Plum Deluxe tea blends), Plum Deluxe is more than worth the value! 🙂

I am really interested in trying some of the blends on the website, so I might order 1 or 2…

I was excited about $10/month for tea, but like you, I don’t think the value is there just yet.

As someone who drinks tea all day long, I was about to jump all over this subscription.
It seems perfect in every way – but the value isn’t there.
I don’t mind getting what I pay for, but I won’t sign up until Plum Deluxe send $10 worth of tea for $10 paid.

Although I do love their teas because they are one of the few all-organic teashops, I don’t drink enough to warrant a club subscription. But, the math presented here is incorrect – the $10 subscription includes 1 tea ($7 + $3 shipping), plus a sample of another tea, and all the other benefits. I know you can buy samples from their site for $4, so let’s just say you’re getting $2 of samples. So, you’re getting $12 of tea for ten bucks, plus benefits.

Ok, maybe I just talked myself into signing up!

I did it. I signed up this morning. I was only going to buy one or two teas because they all look really unique and interesting, but I caved. I love the vibe of their website and the fact that they are organic and fair trade. They also have a free newsletter that you can sign up for that comes out on Sundays. I love all tea and drink about 3 cups a day, so I will definitely use the tea.
